This young WR core is getting slept on

Why?

QB is completing 71.5% of his passes.
He can only throw to one receiver per play (flea flickers etc. excepted ).
So where’s the problem?
Well there has to be a problem, so let’s say that’s it.

Why? Because why not? They will be tested come playoff time and then we will revisit this conversation.
They have been tested every week. That’s the NFL.

Would we need to draft next year or work on increasing depth elsewhere? A lot of draft capital used at the position in past that seems to have gone nowhere (Boutte, Douglas and hopefully Williams aside.) Or do we need to swing big again in 2026.
No. Draft capitol is needed elsewhere. Let's develop more from the inside. If there is one thing the NFL develops in abundance, it is WR's And they develop all kinds. From the standard burners and 3 cone stars in the slot, to the 6'4 big targets like London and the elite route runners like JNS and Jefferson.

I'd rather find a guy like Javon Baker who is STILL only 23 and is 6'4 who runs a 4.5. He's spent this season on the Eagles PS I'd rather take a run at him than use a day 2 pick on a WR. He wasn't too far off making the roster this year. He'd be a lot closer to contributing to the team than anyone we would draft. And we could use another 6'4 WR. Once we get past Hollins our WR group gets small real fast. And if not Baker than some guy like Baker.

BTW I read a really interesting blub on a new WR development - The slowish 4.6 guy with some size and can separate for some reason. Guys like Puka, JSN, London, Kupp, etc We are hoping Chism might be one down the road.

I don’t agree with this, Pop started slow in this
new offense, but as Josh learned how to utilize him he has become a real weapon from the slot, especially on third downs. He could become the heir apparent in that crucial slot role.

Kyle Williams could become Stefon Diggs after Diggs
leaves… maybe sooner. I said exiting college the prospect Williams most reminded me of was Diggs….
similar athlete, has Diggs as a mentor… why not?
KW a Diggs comp interesting...why do I feel he has a younger Steve Smith or Brandin Cooks ceiling?? KW have Elite Speed I don't remember Diggs as a speedy X-Type.

Not to be Debbie Downer, but I still don't think this is an overly impressive group. I don't have anything BAD to say about any of our WRs other than Williams who has had a tough rookie year (but I still see long term potential in him). I just don't have anything overly positive to say either. McDaniels is one of the GOAT offensive coordinators and Maye is playing at a special level and I think that's elevating Boutte/Douglas/Hollins. Not saying those aren't good receivers, but I think playing with a great coordinator and QB is elevating them some. Diggs had that monster game vs. BUF early on that I think made everyone rush to say he was "back" to pre injury form but while he's been good, I think he's leveled off to a more "normal" recovery timeline where he's still good and productive but not near is pre injury self.

There's a reason teams still play a good amount of single high and loaded boxes against us despite the crazy downfield passing numbers. Overall I'd say this is still an underwhelming group but it's 4-deep with quality NFL players that have diversified skill sets/route trees. Combined with good TEs, decent receiving backs, ELITE QB play and an outstanding offensive coordinator it's good enough to be crazy productive on offense (like we have been) against defenses playing a lot of cover 1/loaded boxes.

I think better receivers would maintain that production while helping the OL in the run game and in pass pro since it allows for less aggressive/creative blitzing. But this groups is certainly good enough to be a productive offense as-is.

We do need someone who can win jump balls.

Please don't say that ^ name: we have of plenty Draft capital to get a WR in the Third or Fourth Round in 2026. Also I wouldn't rule out a very good WR Prospect in Round 2 if that player is available. We are long in the tooth with Diggs and Barefoot Mack Hollins. Remember both Kayshon Boutte and Pop Douglas are FA's after 2026. We don't know what Boutte might be looking for: that said he has the Best chemistry with Drake Maye.

Diggs ran a 4.46 forty… pretty fast. Also a similar build
to KW.

There’s only one football. But there are three egos there, all demanding to be fed.
If someone disrupts the team because of his ego problems, he will be traded or waived.

yes, Pop is our backup slot receiver and could replace Diggs when he leaves. or not.

For now, Douglas is, along with Wiliams, one of our backups

I still want to see Javon Baker getting people to get up out of their wheelchairs. Would love to have it be here, if he checks his ego and buys in.

You can have all world speed which becomes pretty useless if you can't catch. That just about sums up wheelchair Baker... I'm still sitting down. Never saw anything that made me feel like standing up. Almost brought up dinner a few times after watching him fail.

He couldnt get on the 53 man or the practice squad here. Got picked up by the Eagles on their practice squad and was cut in October. Tried out for the 49ers (Jauan Jennings is their WR#1 with 458 yards) on December 1st and they have not signed him. His ego and buy-in are not his biggest problems.

Getting humbled could be great for him if he handles it properly.

He has talent.

Kayshon Boutte did some soul searching and realized he needed to grow up, and he did.

Glad the organization made the quick call quick on Him and Polk. We have reasons to Believe that KW will be a good one and Efton Chism will get another TC. Who knows maybe we can get Tyquan Thornton on a prove it deal in FA. He caught some long pases from Mahomes.

Personally I don’t think Chism will ever get beyond where he is now. What’s holding him back is not development, it’s innate athletic talent or lack thereof. So I’d gladly swap him for Baker as soon as I’m convinced Baker has got his ego under control and his head screwed on straight, because I think Baker has talent that just needs to be harnessed and developed.

Baker costs no draft capital, and has the talent if he has grown up.

He has been in two different organizations and has seen what the NFL is like.

He has more talent in his little finger than JayLynn Polk.

You don’t know what a player will be like going from college to the pros.

If Baker wants another chance there is no downside.
