Running game/short yardage futility

Pass blocking has been pretty shaky. Run blocking is really bad and the worst I've seen since 2024 and 2019.

Can't pass-block, can't run-block... Otherwise we're in terrific shape.

OL 101. 5 Offensive Linemen...yes.

Campbell, Lowe
Brown, Wallace
Wilson, Bradbury or J. Andrews
Onwenu, Wallace
Moses, Bryant

Replace the less-than-****ing-useless Wallace with Strange69, and that should've been the Bare Minimum with which we entered this season... Heck I would've gladly kept Siddy the Sow over that ****ing stiff.

Some folks here knew before the season even started that Ray Bradbury was no kind of answer at Center; yet the "brain trust" in the front orifice had already decided to jettison both of the Andrews before ever watching them trying to compete for the job...

This should've been by all rights a Red-Shirt season for Wilson. He had no business whatsoever being our starting LG in the first place.

And what more can be said about Onemenu that hasn't been said already? He, Bradbury, Brownstain, and now the ****ing COMEDIAN - AGAIN - ALL need to be COMPLETELY OUT of the ****ing building by this time next year.

The strength of the Pats offense is Maye and his ability to make plays with his arm and feet.

Moreso his accurate passing. The announcers for the Bengals game were thoroughly impressed with some of Mayes completions.

What year will it be that people on the board realize you have to run up the middle to balance your attack and keep the defense honest? Good luck running outside effectively when the defense knows you never run inside.

Also I don’t think our TEs get enough hate for the run game. I love Henry but he’s about as good of a blocking TE as Jimmy Graham was.

On running plays on 3rd or 4th and short we have converted 19 of 29, 66% The league as a whole has converted 636 of 917, 69%.
The league average is 19.9/28.7

We are 1 conversion, all season, below the league average.

Over all on 3rd or 4th and short we have converted 36/55 , 65% and the league has covered 1022/1712 60%. That is 31.9/53.5 per team.
We gave converted 4 more 3rd or 4th and short than the average team in 1.5 attempts

Are we overreacting?

It didn't pull up?

It's on Facebook.
"Fake"book doesnt seem to work on popup/links for those of us who call it that (and havent sold themselves out to Meta).

The issues are red zone.. we are what #22 in red zone efficiency/ scoring.. we are an excellent 3rd and long team with converting which is excellent.. but to be inside the 5 and not being able to score is embarrassing... after 6 attempts.. against the Bengals..

... I'm confused, is there a story about this? Or is it just a graphic?
Running game is missing Gibson as well.. he was a back that could get short yardage and run hard between the tackles.. his skill set is sorely missed.. and on STs as well.. not saying Gibson is the solvent but he provides another option at RB whenever rham or Henderson are ineffective in short yardage.. this allegedly new role has more to do with bringing rham back along slowly due to that foot injury.. IMO.

No clue why they didn't try Jennings on those short / goal-line runs. He's definitely the best they have on that.
Also - Maye's keeper "tush push attempt" was disgusting and embarrassing. But, he could have reached it over the top for an easy TD.

He probably had the idea of the ball being batted out his hands stuck in his head not to go over the top.. we are missing Gibson.. People may not realize this.. but he excelled in short yardage..

But again it’s one time. Are we overreacting. We are considering 3 running plays to be a stamp on the team.
For the year inside the 10 we are 39-81 2.1 ypc 12 1st downs 10 TDs
League average is 27.4-39.9 1.8 ypc 9.8 first downs 7.8. Td

We are better than the league average.
Are we just looking at something that is hard to do, seeing we had a hard time in one game and overreacting? The entire NFL averages 1.8 ypc inside the 10.

If a team is going to use the tush push, it needs to practice it seriously. If they can't do that then don't bother putting it on the playbook. Non-Iggles teams constantly fail at it because they think they can just call it up during the game without devoting the necessary practice to it.

Better off just running a regular QB sneak.

With Maye's athleticism and ability to roll out, improvise, throw on the run or beat a defender to the edge it's mindboggling that we were stymied on the goal line like that.

Agreed. No idea why McDaniels chose NOT to do any of that and, instead, chose to numerous "A" gap runs.. The "A" gaps are the worst blocked runs this team has..

I think I've seen this team run a total of 2-3 Jet Sweeps. I can't remember the last time they ran a screen play. He seemed extremely adverse to running pitches and tosses wide despite that being the area where Henderson would excel.

then there is the back shoulder fade.. With the Triple "H" of Henry, Hollins and Hooper, I would think that would be an End Zone Staple.

Somebody posted a link this week to Burton-Ernie & in one segment they talked short-yardage runs.

Ernie’s point: the OL first have to get hip-on-hip; tighter than usual. If they allow a crease for a DL to slip his pad vertical thru, he will leak thru & disrupt the play.
So I’m not sure how much is this (or other similar) technique point & how much is a lack of explosiveness-power (particularly at center) call it 50-50; BUT THE PROBLEM IS IMO 100% the O-LINE. If they could do it right, it might still take 2 or even 3 tries, but Drake & rbs would punch some in.

we ain’t solving this without more OL talent; so for playoffs we just have to hope Josh schemes some good alternatives.
