Patriots Player Departure Keion White traded

Chaisson and Landry have been a bit banged up/injured and playing thru. the team is thin behind them, even if they like the upside to Ponder and Swinson.
it would have been nice if White could have given them 15-20 snaps per game at max effort.
Instead of White, Vrabel to give the 15-30 reps to Jennings.

Vrabel chose 7 EDGE/OLB players over White.

CHAISSON, LANDRY
JENNINGS, PONDER
SWINSON., MURPHY
with TAVAI occasionally take a rep at EDGE/OLB

PLUS, of course the LB's in the middle: Spillane, Ellis, Gibbens, and Mapu

Lots of players who "didn't fit In" here are fine elsewhere, some as starters, some as backups. Some will be even better when they are healthy.

It is NOT an indictment of Vrabel to believe that he got rid of good players or even that he didn't get the value that we thought he should have insisted on.

It is only an indictment if Vrabel didn't adequately fill the position.
It's not the evaluation of him not fitting in that bothers me. We're just weak there right now. He's a backup... and we could use another body to apply some pressure. If he had given us what he gave SF last night, it would've helped. Clearly Vrabel preferred Chiasson. But I think we need a massive upgrade there. Not enough sacks, and neither White nor Chiasson set the edge and work effectively against the run. We need a Judon.

Personally, I believe that if we're not getting sacks from that position, then at the very least use Anfernee who is strong against the run.

yes, I understand that
but K White's rookie year he played better than all of them have this year
last year he regressed
this year he didn't seem to even show up
why?

Judon forced his way out of town.. he was great when he was here. However injury and father time caught up with him and he's a shell of the player he was during his time in NE. Chaisson actually does set the edge the issue is he's our most effective rusher.. he's always in the backfield even if he's not getting to the QB.. he does his job effectively the issue is the other edge and the interior rush..Barmore is seeing double teams.. it's going to be on Durden and Tonga to pressure from inside.. also not having farmer inside hurt as well he was having a solid season as a rookie as and interior DL.. I think the ankle is still and issue for him.. Landry has been playing hurt since the saints game.. guys like Ponder have come on as of late. They bye week's a time for guys that have played alot of snaps to catch thier breath and rest.. and get ready for the home stretch. Meaningful football again in NE is such a welcome sight.

I don’t even think white had even a registered half sack while here before he was traded.. Marcus Jones at CB had more sacks..

I wrote we need "a Judon." Not Judon himself. Chiasson does not set the edge. He is frequently wiped out and it's why teams have success running outside. We are relying on strong tackling from our CBs but its a dangerous game. We are substandard in both run and pressure from the edge.

Agreed there. The CBs have been very good in the running game this year. I was just eluding to Chaisson specifically as without him we won't have any semblance of an edge rusher presence. Is why the trade deadline was such a dud.. I totally understand what Vrabes was trying to establish as a culture however.. we should have at least added another proven rusher at edge. I was very high on kavon Thibiduaux.. young and would've been here beyond this season had we traded for him... probably one of the only things I can really criticize coach on...was not adding at the deadline..

I do think Anfernee is excellent at setting the edge, but then youre trading pass rush for run stopping. I also think Anfernee is just as good at shooting the gap on run blitzes.

I worry a lot about the wear and tear on all 3 of our CBs, all 3 of whom are susceptible to injuries.

He is and I'm happy that he wasn't moved because he's been regarded amongst the top of league at setting the edge.. his pass rushing is coming along.. Vrabel seems to really like his work ethic and attitude.. I see no reason to move him.. he's a useful player.. your absolutely correct gonzo, Marcus and David all are injury prone players.. a loss to anyone of them and we see automatic first down Austin back out there.. we need our current guys at edge to rest and recover and be at thier best for the playoffs.

Austin is on IR

Jennings should get more PT. He's our strongest edge against the run and it's not like Landry and Chiasson are pressuring the QB on pass plays anyways, they're applying the same pressure as Jennings. I saw Ponder out there struggling mightily whenever they ran right at him.

Thought last Sunday was Carlton Davis's best game of the year...hope he continues this trend.

I was going to post the same thing.. gonzo fell asleep and let the PS wr beat him for TD.. Davis played really well and seems he's rounding into form.. I think the constant man/zone sometimes affects his technique becuase he and gonzo are man CBs.

Vrabel's going to have some time with this bye coming to really hone in and figure out wich guys are going to work best going forward.. Jennings should absolutely be playing more..

If you notice whenever we play man we get off the field or a pass is incomplete.. Vrabel said he'd like to play cat coverage.. he has the cats..now play the coverage... I say..

You know who's becoming sneaky good player?? Jaylinn Hawkins: he almost had a pick if he didn't get wiped out by friendly fire: I really like his game. We have not missed Kyle Dugger.

They're giving up 20 pounds. Our DEs are light.

It's very impressive the way Vrabel has our whole secondary playing so hard. I honestly have never seen anything like it.

We always had strong safeties who stuck their nose in the thick of things (Milloy, Chung, Rodney, Peppers, even Dugger) but these CBs are fearless, much more than any CBs we've ever had, more than Law, Gilmore, Asante etc.

Hawkins is absolutely a good player..as I mentioned earlier in the season.. Vrabel's not going to release peppers and put Dugger up for trade if he didn't see Hawkins and Woodson were better fits.. Hawkins will resign here..
