@Ian

If you're being consistent the whole thread should probably be deleted now.

Got it so the haters have free reign.

All the people who didn't want him will now be mad he landed in Buff. Just saying.

I heard Taylor Kyles opining yesterday that he would rather have the Pats not go to the SB, rather than go and get demolished, likely by the Rams.

I thought he made some good points, and was inclined to agree with him. It could be the proverbial turd on the punch bowl end to a great season.

Now…

I’m not so sure.

I know historically the losing team in the SB tends to have a drop off because they got SO close, and finishing second is just the first loser.

Would that be the same with the Pats?

They will have a tougher schedule next year win or lose.

I still think the Maye/Vrabel combo is going to attract FAs to the Pats.

The Pats still have cap space and a well-run draft/FA team.

The Pats were heavy underdogs to the Rams in the first dynasty yet were able to pull it out, and as Ricky Proehl correctly predicted before the game, “you are witnessing the birth of a new dynasty.”

So what does everyone here think about that?
**** that. I always want to go to the SB. If we’re fairly healthy, we won’t get “demolished.” The Rams are very good, but they aren’t great at anything in particular besides maybe WR & play calling (McVay). We can definitely beat them if we’re able to contain Puka & DA…and get pressure on Stafford. We’d surely be able to hold our own.

Would the 1996 Patriots have been better off had Denver beat Jacksonville, so Denver could block NE from facing GB? How about the 2001 Patriots? Would they have been better off not facing the Rams as they were a 14 point underdog? That worked out well.

Someone has to call Kyles out for saying this idiotic statement. When do you get a choice on when to make the Super Bowl? I even hear this nonsense with the GM's saying that they won't "mortgage the future" when they or the franchise have never won anything.

The only reason why teams that lose in the Super Bowl don't return is because they were a fluke, or they lost personnel and can't draft.

It also gives you the second worst draft spot in every round. If you overachieved to get to the SB, vs have deep talent, that sets you back.

Of horrible trades, this was up there ( if I’m misremembering and he wasFA, still horrible)

BB paid him the franchise tag and then let him walk with no trade compensation.

I'd still rather get to the Super Bowl than not. Nothing is guaranteed.

In theory, Bill could've tagged him again in 2021, but both sides were too far apart, he was taking up cap space once tagged and Thuney was in control of any trade which players are now starting to realize. With that said, Thuney may have come back had Bill been more aggressive in FA. Former players have said Bill sometimes waits until the 11th hour to make a push and by that time Thuney had already made up his mind to sign with KC. Akiem Hicks was another player that said Bill ****ed around too long.
Seeing that saddens me.
The Shaq Mason extension was probably the weirdest signing for an OL since Max Lane/Todd Rucci.

Not ONLY, it is also in some part that
- your season was a lot longer than other teams - more wear-tear on players.
- SB players who are FAs often over estimate their own worth or other teams do it for them and throw $ at them to leave.
