Stephen A Smith goes off on rant against Drake Maye

Why am I attached to this post?
Your liked that's why.

SAS is paid to have hot takes. Personally I think he’s phenomenal at what he does, had some epic rants over the years just for the purpose of entertainment. The majority of the time I think his takes are ridiculous, but there’s a strong chance he doesn’t even believe what he’s saying half the time. He’s just putting on a show. And remember it’s good to have haters. What kind of Pats fan wants to live in a world where everyone has nothing but nice things to say about us?
Absolutely!! He brings in the ratings for ESPN.. it's all sports entertainment.. just like you and I see and read things so don't the players... can we imagine a bunch of 20 something year olds not actually on social media or something LOL..

The personnel was the single biggest problem in Miami after the owner… who meddles.

Picking Tua over Herbert, the firing of Flores because he didn’t want the owner involving himself in operations or openly breaking tampering rules to court Tom Brady.

All the way to this modern iteration with paying a king’s ransom in draft picks for, then breaking the bank for Tyreek Hill. Then paying Jaylen Waddle also… all the while building your offensive line on the cheap and exposing your QB to numerous concussions. Also letting your defense be built on the cheap and mired in league worst category.

The Dolphins are rotting from the top down… McDaniels and Flores weren’t the problem.

I honestly didn't know what show Cam was on either. People don't watch ESPN like they used to. And who's the blonde sharmuta?
I had no idea either. I don't watch any of those shows so i'm not really the best person to ask which shows are popular and which aren't.

She looks like a porn star.

SAS has found a way to monetize controversy and has an annoying ability to always make it "all about him". NO one in the media using the word "I" more than him.

I watch sometimes because Clark and Orlofsky sometimes offer good breakdowns. They did a great one on Maye and the Pats D recently. Orlofsky doesn't just say Maye is great. He shows you WHY.

SAS is just shtick and its old now. I admire that he's found a way steal a lot of money from ESPN and occasionally he used to have something intelligent to say. But now he's just LOUD and has nothing smart to say. His anger at Maye's response is ludicrous and he should be embarrassed.

Cam is just saying things to get relevant in sports media so i take anything he says with a pinch of salt, Stephen A came across as so soft today lol.

How dare someone who works during his show not watch them talk about Lebron and the Cowboys for 2 hours a day.

I like Stephen A. He's hamming it up acting upset that Maye didn't know his show, and he knows the Liar part is harmless, just his schtick which he can get away with. At the end of the day he's pretty fair and he gives Drake his due. Cam, on the other hand is not looking good.

How could anyone like him.
His argument philosophy is talk loud and last, no matter what BS you’re spewing.
I have no time to watch someone yell on tv.

That is exactly it. SAS is just the WWE of ESPN. He gets paid big $$$ to be this person and the audience eats it up. I don't blame the man for earning lots of money like a professional wrestler with a big mouth, but I don't have to think anything he says is credible either.

There is more going on here too. SAS is also considered to be a voice for those of us who are black. Three black men and one white woman were on that panel. Everyone in the audience was black. Drake is a good ole southern white boy with manners, respect, and drawl. So SAS is playing his audience and stiring them up with Black vs White, Cam vs Drake. This is what ESPN and the media do to get ratings and cause contention. And it works like a charm. I am black wife and mom, and can see it happening right before my eyes. I hate this stuff. There is one race - human. But I assure you ESPN will play this angle for as long as they can.

I think Drake is actually a really great human being. He is sincere, kind, and legit. I don't think he misspoke. He just honestly said what popped into his head. I would not be surprised if he came out with another statement saying he didn't mean to insult Cam, which he didn't do anyway. Ratings = Drama.

Cam has misplayed this so bad. He's the childhood idol of the league's next megastar. As a media member, he could have parlayed that into lifelong relevance.

Instead he throws it away for a few days of clicks with a onesided "feud." Horrible career management.

I honestly have not watched any ESPN talk show on the NFL since deflategate. I see SAS's NBA hot takes now and then but steer well clear of their NFL coverage, on principle. I don't even watch pre and postgame shows on any network and try to take a walk at halftime. if you want analysis, find a podcast that isn't ESPN.

I haven't watched the professional sports drama network for ever 15 years. I doubt 20 somethings warch it.

Not a too many brain cells to spare between Cam and Steven. I haven’t watched and espn morning show in years and feel like I’m smarter because of it. I’m glad we have Drake Maye as a Patriot. I’ll leave it at that for now.

How stupid. Athletes used to be expected to ignore the media, and trashed if they engaged in tabloid crap. Now, SAS is trying to make an issue out of a 2nd year QB who's trying to imitate the greats by focusing on football instead of fame & hype, and call him a liar!?!!?
That is trash! And Cam should actually stand up for Drake at this point because he knows what it takes (but could never give what it took)

Remember when Montana did essentially the same thing with Brady? I think these guys have a hard time dealing with no longer being the center of attention.

Cable television is a dying industry, saying First Take is “most watched” while ignoring the flagging viewership of ESPN is some crafty wordplay. Drake is a kid… are we sure he watches ESPN, or even has cable… I doubt it.

Cam didn't even say anything inflammatory really. Fools gold is kind of headline grabbing but the actual content of what he said was that they're a good team but record is inflated because they played so many bad teams so he's not buying them as a Super Bowl contender right now. I don't think that's outlandish. It's not like he said they suck and just got lucky, which would be over the top.

Drake might very well not have known that Cam was on first take. He definitely knows who Stephen A is and that First Take is a show though. He doesn't live under a rock. But Cam is relatively new to that show so hardly absurd that an athlete wouldn't know that he's on the show like Stephen A got in his feelings about.
