Here it makes sense. Shorten their first season rather than having them exposed a little early.

Vrabel's a guy who will purposely not score a TD so he can leave the other team with no time left, so this type of thinking is certainly possible.

I actually made the stashing players comment as a joke that might have some truth to it. It was a question, not a statement.

Your explanation, of course makes the most sense, but Vrabel has shown in other circumstances that he enjoys trying to outthink the league.

Also Chaisson was out one week, but no Swinson elevation. And last week no Diepre elevation despite this week he's on the 53.

Maybe other team are thinking the same.

Vrabel is doing the best he can for the team, getting players he wants for the future $12K a year as long as he had to do so. In the meantime (in the case of Swinson), other players were being elevated and were paid rookie salary.

Congrats to Vrabel. This strategy has gotten the players to pledge loyalty to the team.

However, there is ZERO requirement that a player bring an offer to the patriots.

The point that seems to have you enraged is that Vrabel may have (reasonably) risked losing the players he put on the Practice Squad (Ponder, Jones Dippre, and Swinson). I do believe that Swinson likely made it clear that he wanted to stay withe team if another team were to make an offer. As you know, Practice Squad players can sign anywhere without even a courtesy call to their current team. The team takes a very reasonable risk that they will lose a player or two to another team.

I’m not enraged. I’m just amused, and baffled, by some of what you’ve posted.

Also, as is being discussed over on the Swinson thread, there is no requirement that a player accept an offer from another team. Swinson could have told his agent to decline the Bills’ offer and never told the Patriots about it. I don’t think that would’ve been his best course of action, but it’s entirely possible.

I'm not sure Dippre will be active, much less get reps this week. BUT, I'd love to see him work onto the field and earn some time this year - especially with a few targets to see how he can do.
I have no idea if he can play or be a #2TE next year, but we need to do everything to test what we have at TE, because it's a point of major upgrade next season. And if they can find an underrated gem from another low round draft pick, we'll be more ahead of the game.

But OK one last time a different way.

1) roster spots are most valuable on the initial cutdown down date, and become less valuable as time goes on because of injuries depleting the work force. Chism was a guy they legitimately could have lost on cutdown date.
2) So if you can hold off bringing up a young player for a small roster role, it provides you better roster management because there's less risk of having to elevate him from league interest, and then perhaps being forced to cut them in a numbers game.
3) Now the circumstances are they have an actual real role for the players planned, and are willing to provide the roster spot because of injuries.

Other teams I'm sure are interested because they have rosters spots from injuries. So this is the time to call the players up. I see it as part of the plan how to bring them along under the radar for this moment.
