Are we currently the best team in the NFL?

I'll tell you one thing that isn't great - the locker room breakdown after wins.
I know Vrabel wants to change everything about the past - but this team should find something better than "1-2-3 Pats!" as their chant after wins. I know "awwww-yeah" was getting old, but man, bring some character and identity. find something!

Im not gonna say they are the best, until I see them get to the playoffs, and then we’ll talk.
The thing about that is we have a very veteran coaching staff. Vrabel played in 3 SB's. Josh was the OC in 5 SB's. And we have a lot of veteran players on this team and a QB who plays like one. The playoff stage won't be too big for us.

Come on Tommy, they are more than that.
Lead by a SB winning QB who is playing at a ridiculous level.
Very good D
Goff coaching.
The league has had a couple of years to figure out Nacua……
I said they're very good.

They're killing people with that 3-te set. Someone will figure it out. It's a gimmick.

The most complete teams are in the NFC the better QBs are in the AFC.

Detroit, Philly, and Seattle are great along both lines but can you trust Goff or Darnold?

I think the Rams are the best team currently just, they have the QB you can trust the most on the near complete team, Pats are right up there with anyone in the AFC.
The question wasn't phrased this way, but it doesn't matter if 4 or 5 NFC teams might be better than us or might beat us - we'll only have to play one of them.

Is it a gimmick if it works?
If it stops working does LA have the necessary offensive pieces and coaching to adjust? I think we both know the answer to that is a resounding yes.
I will never fault a team for employing a winning strategy, gimmick or not.

It's the wildcat.

Teams figured it out.

I think the Rams should be able to adjust, how quickly they'll adjust is the question. McVay is a good coach, but he's also shown he's slow to adjust when teams can take away what he wants to do.

For the third time, the Rams are very good.

We have the potential to grow into the best as this year continues to unfold. I mean, Henderson and Williams are now game-changers. Hollins is now a deep threat. Tonga is now a road grader. Campbell can now handle anyone not named Garrett. Diggs and Pop are now unstoppable in the middle.

We're discovering multiple new things about this team every week.
It is interesting (and fortunate) that the temporary losses of Boutte and Stevenson pushed others onto the field into expanded and new roles, and those players flourished with the opportunities.

Don't forget about his NASCAR titles too. The guy can Coach.

I didn't think you thought coaches mattered though?

It never ends well and Portnoy never gives his mouth a rest.

No, the Pats are not the best team in the NFL.

It's like going from Peyton Manning to Andrew Luck, except actually trying to put an OL in front of the guy.
Andrew Luck
2012: 41 sacks
2013: 32 sacks

Drake Maye
2024: 34 sacks
2025 (so far): 34 sacks

And that's not counting the hits he takes when he starts running. We and he needs to do a better job of not letting him get hit so much.

Oddly i think our offense is better than our defense and has mostly picked up the slack especially early. I still feel that vs elite offensive teams like the Rams or Eagles or chiefs, this defense will struggle.

Just saw from Rich Eisen. In the 7 game win streak, the Pats have scored 23 or more in all 7 games, and have given up 23 or less points in all 7 games. No Patriot team has ever done that. That’s crazy.

At this moment right here.

Yes

But a surprising amount can change in a week or two, maybe they keep improving and get better or maybe they take a handful of steps back while other teams improve and they fall back into the fray

I am not sure about best, but our speed has really improved. Lots of Patriots sighted running down the sideline with defenders left throwing their hands up. Plus Maye is hitting guys in stride - there is no one else in the league doing that as consistently. We have guys that can house it from numerous positions
