NOT splurging at the trade deadline was a MASTERSTROKE!

It's funny how some posters seem to think trade deadline is when great players are handed out like Christmas presents to other teams just because they want them.

Yes, we want more/better EDGE players, but so does almost every other contending team, and the non-contenders aren't letting them go cheap.

Yet if a WR1 or EDGE stud in waiting happened to fall to this team for late round draft picks Vrabel's message would have been totally different.

The reality is that trade deadline is a sellers market and some of the purchases end up being fool's gold (Sauce Gardner, I'm looking at you!).
I agree on Sauce… kind of. His play has regressed, no question about it. But how much of that was due to the toxic losing environment that is Woody and the Jets? I guess time will tell, but Indy definitely overpaid

Either shoot for the moon for a Myles Garrett, or keep our powder dry. Don't squander draft capital for a guy not signed thru at least next season - the trade deadline market is too expensive to do that.

The message sent to the locker room by NOT trading for an expensive "fixer" or two will only further galvanize team unity. It's a ringing endorsement of the Diggs-coined battlecry, "We all we got! We all we need!"
Did you see this in a Disney movie?

Focusing ALL my cosmic energy... Must not fixate on "masterstroke". Must not give in to childish jokes.

To me it's pretty clear that they realized the team has some big holes and they knew they were at least another offseason away. Could we win a Super Bowl this year? Sure, it's possible. It's not very likely and it doesn't make sense to hobble the rebuild by going after a couple of rentals. Slow and steady is what gets us to being a perennial contender.

I can't believe Buffalo didn't make a move.

Their window is closing and their receivers and defense suck.

Why wasn't Rashid Shaheed worth a 4th and 5th to them?

But we are in a different position and I like their former receiver being our team leader.

Unless we overpaid doing nothing was ok, but not a masterstroke.

No I wish we could have traded to help our Edge rushing and perhaps S spot. But circumstances kept that from us. I think the guy the Ravens traded for would have been perfect for us. But he was a Titan and that wasn't going to happen. Just a fact.

I did state that there was no one who was traded that were on teams that would trade with the Pats. I said earlier in the week I thought that Dre'Mont Jones or Arden Key would have been traded to the Pats, but that was before we found out that the Titans wouldn't trade to the Pats because of the owner's hate for Vrabel.

I’m sure they tried, just as I’m sure we tried to make a trade.

I don’t see the Bills window closing at all. They have Allen, that keeps their window open, period. Now I do agree that their yearly road to an AFCE title has gotten substantially tougher with our Pats improving so dramatically, but let’s not fool ourselves into believing Buff won’t be a contender for the foreseeable future.

I'll buy in!

Its stuff like this that gets written down in epic poems that last thru the ages like The Charge of the Light Brigade or in movies such as Gallipoli and Zulu ...

hmmm... *scratches head * ... on second thought...

ahhh... **** that ****... You get a chance to get a good player, you do it... you don't have to be stupid about it like the Clots, but you gotta at least try instead of just telling me "well we made a call or two"...

Yeah, Dre'Mont Jones seems like the pick up that would have made sense.

The key to a team like the Bills or Chiefs is they have to draft well. You don't do that by throwing picks away.

Stranger things have happened . Giants winning the 2007 Superbowl . What if this year is the year for us. We scrape through and come playoffs start to emerge defensively . If the front 4 starts to punch their weight together then we might not even be clamoring for edge help.

We might get help from unlikely quarters . So let's hope luck smiles on us again this year much to the misery of all other team fans . If we win the Superbowl in Maye's second year , just wondering the impact of it on all other fan bases especially bills.

Chances are remote but as a fan you are allowed to dream , daydream

Yeah, Dre'Mont Jones seems like the pick up that would have made sense.

I was leaning towards Key just because Key played for Vrabel when Vrabel was in Tennessee and had one of his best years. I just felt the transition for Key would be more smooth midseason than it would be for Jones who never played for Vrabel.

Famous local "midyear galvanizations".....

Pitino 2000
The "sit on our hands and count gate receipts" Sox front office 2021-24

Adding - not for an expensive "fixer", but for a long-term contributor who fit - would also have been a masterstroke, but not at hobgoblin Clown Parade prices.

Nice to have leadership with a clear vision and plan, and the discipline to follow it.

I love you.

My bad, will try to do better next time. Fixing it.

"I'll take Vrabel/Chard for $100, Alex."

Although I am definitely not upset that the Pats didn't use draft capital to pick up rent a players or overpay for a big name, I don't know if I would consider it a masterstroke. This is still a first year of a rebuild even if they are exceeding even most optimistic expectations thus far.

I think the best trades are still done in the offseason anyway. Yesterday was an outlier for big trades by the deadline, but I really didn't see anyone really traded that I thought the Pats really missed out on. I wish they got outside pass rush help, but the only players traded were players on teams that wouldn't trade with the Patriots.

The Pats are one or two good offseason from being a perennial top team and Super Bowl contender in the league. No use wasting draft capital this year to try to win it this year in year one of a rebuild. Washington did that and look where they are now.
Masterstroke? Hyperbole!
