Is Chris Grier really the one to blame? They have talent. He did pull off a brilliant trade with the 49ers that did get them Hill, Waddle, and Chubb in return for the third overall pick. I don't think he is the greatest GM, but I would put him behind Tua and McDaniel in the blame pie.

Whoever signed off on that Tua contract should be canned if it's not Grier or Ross.

Somebody had to walk the plank for that debacle last night. Dollyfins are on the hook for too much for it to be Tua, McDaniel will help them secure the best possible draft pick and Stephen Ross isn't about to fire himself so Grier it is.

On another note, I'd just like to say how great it is to once again be at the top of the division watching our wannabe rivals implode.

Maybe it was mutual. Maybe he wants to fire Mike McDaniel and was told no

I've read today that he's been given lame duck status (his job is safe through the end of the season).

We play the Dolphins in week 18. Time to lose on purpose to their lame duck coach to deny them the top draft pick ala Bills last year? It can't be the Bills so another AFC East team will have to do. Lol

If he wanted to fire Mcdaniel then you'd think Ross would've fired him for gross incompetence rather than 'mutually parting' ways with Grier.
There are four teams in front of Miami for the 1st pick overall and 3 of them will be prioritizing QB. McDaniel is their best shot at securing 1 overall, f'n stupid to dump him now. Dollyphins gotta have a future low cost QB to get out from under Tua'$ contract

Agreed. That's some Madden-level GM-ing. I do think he's taking the fall for the Tua contract, but I think the Dolphins were over a barrel when they made that deal. They had no other QBs and Tua was holding out in camp and the other QBs looked like trash.

They thought they had a window and it's now closed. Whoever the new GM is should be selling off anything that isn't nailed down.

I can see Stephen Ross driving by McDaniel’s house weekly to drop off some more marching powder.

Only if there's no upside to winning that game (see 2005, where Cincinnati basically offered up the 3 seed to NE if they wanted it, and Belichick said **** that).

Yet for a franchise overall a 'middling' QB is more often than not the kiss of death
Yeah, and this is where a good owner comes in. They need to be willing to suck with a plan to get better, and the right people to pick the players to grow around. But too few owners are willing to do so. They want to win now.
