We should stand pat unless something too good to turn down comes our way. We have a lot of drafting to do the next 1-3 seasons. We’re a vet heavy team.

At the start of the season we were 11th youngest team in the NFL.

He could be, that just seems unlikely IMO. Extending a depth/rotation kind of guy like that before even spending a day with him seems unusual. I know that's exactly what FA is, but a little different there because that's just the timing of it. Feel like both sides, so close to FA, would want a trial period first.
Yes, that’s a consideration. Flip side, I’m assuming we’re looking at him as more than a half season rental of a depth/rotation JAG. His contract expires end of this season so if we don’t extend him as part of the trade there’s a good chance we either end up in a bidding war for whatever his market value might be, or worse decide he’s a half season rental. We shouldn’t trade for him unless we plan to resign him, so doing it sooner rather than later is better for the team.

I think these are the positions we could trade for by Tues: DE, S, RB

The 2 that we do need upgrading to compete for SB: WR, TE
We're likely not doing anything this season, but Pop & Williams aren't really adding anything this year, and Henry/Hooper are both old and not big play makers. If they found a mid-season trade deal more for next years purpose though...

Njoku is being rumored to being available from the Browns. He’s still a very effective & explosive for a tight end. Though watching highlights from last weeks game, is he getting fat ? Not fat shaming him, I’m overweight as well, but was just shocked to see how big he looked. BTW, I loved Harold Fannin Jr in the draft, and he looks really good for the Browns, probably why Njoku is available.

Based on receiving yards we have 2 of the top 32 TEs and WRs.

I'm still holding out for a coverage LB and OT quality depth. I don't know what to make of the half-dozen jag RB's recently signed. Would prefer they got just one that has more talent.

Funny, that's the first thing I commented about last week - Njoku used to be a very svelt TE, almost too thin, but he was very fast and and explosive for a TE. He certainly looked a bit fluffy, maybe trying to put on weight to be more complete as a blocker? I'm not sure about him as a trade candidate though, he's always had trouble with drops, gaps in concentration and being anti-clutch.

A quick look at our '26 FA class:
Hawkins, Tonga, Chaisson | DeVito, B. Brown, Austin | T. Jennings, Murphy, Westover, Gibbens, Lowe, Hooper
Bold - we should definitely re-sign
Italics - good depth to re-sign if $ and no better draft/FA available (DeVito OR Dobbs)
Other - replaceable and upgrades probable in FA or Draft (Hooper replaced by high round TE of future)

I want them to stick to the plan. Have plenty to spend on filling holes in free agency, then go BPA and have another draft like the last one. Then put all of their focus on developing their young players. If they can repeat the 25' offseason they can be contending for titles for years to come, and that's how you put multiple Lombardi trophies in the cabinet, and Championship banners in the stadium. I would like nothing more than to see them win another 3,4,5 Lombardi's, and leave the rest of the league with no doubt as to who the greatest franchise in NFL history is.
Regarding following up on the 25’ offseason, one of the draftniks here said that 26’ will be similar to 25’ regarding depth.

Those two 6th rounders the Pats just acquired could turn into useful assets if that is the case, and look at Miles Garrett’s effusive praise of Drake after the game.

With Drake and this coaching staff, the Pats are going to be a desirable destination for FAs and have the cap space to make some noise.

Pats are going to be a force to be reckoned with.

Regarding TE, I saw yesterday that the Browns just added two TEs to their practice squad.

Think Njoku might be traded?

The 7th in the 49ers trade is Conditional. If White plays 7 games, then it stays with the Pats. Saw the report today.
What a story that could be.

White plays seven games, and with the pick the Pats get to keep, they draft Tomas Bradynski, who goes on to become an NFL legend.

I'd probably bold Gibbens too. He might be our best special teamer. I think he's playing better than Schooler right now.

Actually second best: Barringer is 1.

If the Browns are dumping players for draft picks...Alex Wright is young and would be a good fit. 30 yo Njoku? Not so much.

While I agree to an extent : let’s rebuild via the draft, as well as free agency….. if there is a useful vet who becomes available to NE for peanuts (salary dump / last year of the contract), why not ?

While I don’t think NE is championship caliber - the league is down, they are 6-2, and the QB has been fire.
