NFL Trade Deadline Discourse

Uhh no. I said Dobbs and a pick. I was thinking a second or a third. But it’s important to be outraged
This part did make me laugh.

Maybe his history there does make him slightly more valuable than most backups around the league but I just can't imagine him even moving the needle. If the Vikings were willing to move Addison for a 2nd and Dobbs I would think they would be willing to move Addison for just a second but that is just my 2 cents. They already have John Wolford on the practice squad who played under O'Connell when he was the OC in LA.

Vikings aren’t doing much this year. I don’t know enough directly about their cap situation but multiple media sites have them as sellers of either Addison or Hockensen before the deadline. Both their QBs are hurt, they just signed some guy off the street. They could be interesting trade partners is all I’m saying

I am saying that its media making up news for click bait. The Vikings are a stacked team going through a huge injury bug. The are only 3-4. The season is not a wash. You don't blow up the roster because of one poor start to a season. They believe they have the answer at QB because they spent the 10th overall pick on him. He just has a really nasty high ankle sprain. John Wolford was signed to the practice squad and not even the 53 man roster. So claiming they signed some guy off the street is not really accurate.

I agree. I see the moves so far by the Pats front office as an attempt to dump bad contracts to free up cap space. I assume something else is coming. I don’t think Dobbs is worth much, I think he’s a signing and he front office wouldn’t mind a do over on. And he has history there.

And I lead by saying I was aware it was going to read as a Patsfan special

I heard that at the last owner's meeting the owners collectively decided that Patriot fans had suffered enough, and that they should do everything in their power to help us become an immediate SB contender.

I feel like addison and brian thomas are only ‘available’ right now if their teams are completely ripping someone off, which i want no part of. I get that thomas is struggling right now but we all saw his potential last year. Its beyond me why either guy would get traded before their 4th year when theyre on a rookie contract at one of the most expensive positions in the game. Unless they’re a massive distraction

I get that. But that doesn’t mean the coaching staff considers you #3 safety quality. Just that you are the best option currently on the roster.

If they thought he was worthy of being the team’s #3 safety, he would still be on the team. They clearly valued the roster spot over the player.
They haven’t added anyone. When they needed a S3 they chose him over the rest of the roster. Now they will choose someone they felt he was better than.
I don’t think anything is clear unless you start from the assumption it must be a good move because they are infallible.

If Diggs is the only one that can beat man coverage, why do other teams play zone at all?
Many reasons. First of all he is only WR who can beat man CONSISTENTLY
Our TEs and RBs are good receivers so you expose your safeties and lbs by playing man.
Maye has shown a great ability to extend plays and find receivers breaking free vs man.
Mayes running ability and willingness makes man less attractive
Some teams don’t like to play man much.

Are you saying we have other WRs that torch man coverage consistently?

No. Eight games in, the Pats have gone from a first year in a rebuild to having a legitimate shot of winning the division and possibly being a Super Bowl contender. They also gave it a shot in trying to make Dugger contribute to the team and it failed. It is a completely different situation now than three months ago.

And you are making a great argument that it was a good move to trade him since it is clear his roster spot was more valuable to the team than his on the field contributions.
Are you trying to tell me the team walked into the season expecting to lose and now they decided they can win? So they didn’t care about the roster in August but now they do? Thats ridiculous.

Duggar step in as a starter when a s was injured and played fine.

Your argument is that it must be a good move because they made it.
It’s a bad move because they were wrong to make it.
We should be buyers not sellers.

They did add someone. They signed a rookie from the Dolphins' practice squad to their active roster. That tells you what they thought about what Dugger could do for them.

PLAN ONE - A VETERAN SIGNED LAST WEEK

PLAN TWO - THE YOUNGSTER SIGNED THIS WEEK
UDFA Saunders who Vrabel like but didn't get

PLAN THREE - TRY TO TRADE FOR A SAFETY NEXT WEEK
Richie Grant, a rookie UDFA who couldn’t make the Dolphins and hope and pray is not a plan.

Why would you trade your S3 and hope you can trade for another one rather than trading for the other first?

That tells you they screwed up.

I agree with you that Dugger stepped in when Hawkins was injured. Disagree he played fine. I think an accurate description was he wasn't a complete disaster. But he wasn't good at all.

And I don't think it was a good move or a bad move. It was a move. They traded away a way overpriced mediocre back up safety. If Dugger didn't have his past history of being a playmaker, this whole move would be basically a non-story because no one would care.

No, that tells you how little they think of Dugger. They didn't trade away Dugger and say "Oh crap, what did we just do?". This was the plan. The plan was to trade away Dugger and pick up this guy.

And as bad as the Dolphins are, safety is a deep position for them. There been cases of people stealing UDFAs from other teams' practice squad and making them productive players or even stars. This kid could turn into a good role player or more.

Fo
This is how they filled the roster spot.
For now.
We both know the roster is dynamic.
Again, you can judge in real-time, I will wait.
Just like I waited when people were freaking out over Maye and Campbell’s bad practices in TC.

Addison can separate and beat man coverage. Diggs is really the only guy doing that consistently. Imagine Addison in place of Hollins. A threat instead of a guy who rarely gets open. You have to consider Addison in your game plan and coverage calls which will help free up everyone else vs Hollins who defenses treat like an afterthought.
You're right that Addison is better vs man than anyone we have and after watching Addison games I agree with you that it would open up our already very good pass offense.

According to PFF he allowed 1 completion in 2 games. Feel free to cite any actual examples of him not playing well to back up you just saying it because you wanted to.

Moves are good or bad, they make your team stronger or weaker.
By definition if you subtract the guy you chose only when a safety was injured you are weaker if you have another injury.
They didn’t gain any “overpriced” advantage because they are still paying him and the guy who replaces him in the roster.

If Duggar want Duggar we wouldn’t be taking about Duggar? Genius.

Well the roster spot is taken and he must remain for 3(?) weeks.
As of now is all you can judge.
As of now it’s a bad move.
As things develop that could change.

You are spending a lot of time talking about something only to say you refuse to talk about it.

Reacting to roster moves and how they affect the team is very different from reacting to gossip and rumors about practice

Could or Should Pats trade for Breece Hall or J. Ford?
I'm not very confident about our RB corp having enough depth for the long season. Henderson doesn't seem ready for a bell cow role. And Rham is so inconsistent. Jennings is okay in cleanup, but not near the production that one of those guys would be.
