In a blowout, the Gameday backups got zero reps.

The following were in on 100% of the defensive snaps
Gonzo
Davis
Woodson
Dugger

with Jones in on 100% of the reps when we played a 5th DB (he played 83% of the total defensive reps).

don't tell me how much depth we have in the secondary. We have Dugger and Woods; full stop. And I am very glad that we have both. And, yes, I know that Peppers was allowed to move on rather than being a backup, sometimes getting almost no reps. Vrabel needed one of those and kept Dugger.

Austin and the rest were not even worthy of garbage time reps. It is good that the game didn't require them to play any reps that mattered.

Just to be clear: I do really like Woodson, but is he a free safety, strong safety, or something else entirely? I'm thinking that if Dugger is a strong safety, then that would make Woodson the free safety? Or are they playing some combination of both?

Like to see Kurh playing more man going forward.. I feel that our best CB Gonzo, Davis and Marcus are good man Coverage CBs.. the zone coverage and playing off receivers is too easy for offenses.. we aren't playing Josh Allen each week. What's your take on that?

Yet, overall, Bedard says "anyone who is reasonable in the fan base can see this defense is not good enough", and questions if the defensive coaches are used to coaching DBs with good man skills such as Christian Gonzales, Carlton Davis and Marcus Jones. It seems to me he's suggesting the coaches can/should rely on them more so they can do more with the pass rush and be stronger up the middle, but that's just my take on what he's saying.

He did call out the defensive coaches out saying "they better get it solved" because sooner or later they'll have to play against a "real offense" and our defense will "never get off the field" so they'll have to hope "Drake Maye puts up 50".

with Gonzo and Davis specifically. We've seen man at times but it seems they start are playing zone alot.. not sure if it due to the safety play or what. Zone could be effective against a mobile QB like Allen where you can understand.

the initial thought was with a one gap, pressure heavily scheme that having great coverage guys on the outside would be great. Now of course the defense is ranked in the top 10 as a scoring defense as that is the most important thing the final score.

would like to see if Kurh goes to a man heavy coverage against Cleveland this QB is no threat to run and winning at home needs to be the focal point making Gillette stadium a place opponents fear to play in again would do wonders.

Good points made. Every NFL team we face is a real offense.. Bedard should defer back to last season and the season prior where he really had something to complain about.. I like Bedard but he runs Boston sports Journal so he's gotta say and write something...

On Tampa lost Evans and Godwin.. wich should be a surprise to no one. Even though indy is the top seed and playing well KC still is the team to beat IMO.

Coleman at 6'4 with his frame should be mossing DBs.. he doesn't play up to his size advantage. And his attitude has come into discussion.

As for us.. we need to set the tone defensively from the first drive and not allow a bottom offense like Cleveland to have any confidence.

If our only real safeties are Woodson, Hawkins and Dugger, then my position is that guys like Pettus or Schooler should be playing garbage time to reduce the possibility of injury to one of the three safeties that we count on.

Oh, yeah. Hawkins was inactive with injuries. And Woodson was a DNP on Wednesday's injury report.

I agree that a 4th safety is a STer and should not be needed except for emergencies and garbage times. DUGGER is our back-up and Vrabel can count on him for 100% of the reps if needed.

This is bizarre. You are gauging the quality of backups in whether the coach took the starters out?
You seem to be arguing you have proof they stink because you think the coach was afraid to out them in when the game was out of hand and non competitive. Do you see the flaw in that logic?

You took away the fact that the secondary played 100% of the snaps...

What you should have taken away / asked was why they played 100% of the snaps...

I think it has a lot to do with the LB's and EDGE rushers... We just brought in a new LB Caleb Murphy three days ago... Landry played a season low 37 snaps(70%) ... newly activated Jahlani Tavai only played 15 snaps (22%) ... Keion White has seen his number steadily decrease since the Carolina game...

With the unevenness in the front of the defense, it makes sense that the DC would want to keep the strongest unit out on the field...

While it was unlikely the Titans could have mounted a comeback, the Giants/Broncos game (33 points in one quarter) is a stark reminder the game isn't over until the clock hits 0:00

I think it has a lot to do with the LB's and EDGE rushers... We just brought in a new LB Caleb Murphy three days ago... Landry played a season low 37 snaps(70%) ... newly activated Jahlani Tavai only played 15 snaps (22%) ... Keion White has seen his number steadily decrease since the Carolina game...

With the unevenness in the front of the defense, it makes sense that the DC would want to keep the strongest unit out on the field...

While it was unlikely the Titans could have mounted a comeback, the Giants/Broncos game (33 points in one quarter) is a stark reminder the game isn't over until the clock hits 0:00

Don't know if it will ever happen..but if Tennessee moved off Simmons.. adding an interior game wrecking DL next to Barmore, Williams and Tonga would help elevate and the LBs not named Spillane wouldn't be left so exposed.
