This team does not play anything like the 2001 team. The only similarity is that this year‘s team and the 2001 team both sucked the year before.
We can all agree 2001 NFL was a totally different era of football.. a continuation of the 90s essentially. Offensively this team is more talented.

Everything was different about the eras AND the teams. The 2001 team barely threw the ball (even for back then) and the D was tough as nails. And that is not to mention the bizarre stuff that happened like Brady taking over, the QB coach dying right before the season, Patten saving a game by being knocked unconscious...

Vinny Testaverde also got knocked unconscious and the tuck rule was invoked early that season. Which lead to a Patriots' loss to the Jets. Patten's thing against the Bills was just poetic justice.

Our defense is more of a concern than the offense.Somethhing i didnt think would be the case this yr. They have started slow and held in the RZ otherwise they have let the opposing team score in the 5 of last 6 opening drives or something . Been bailed out by maye but against good teams if they fall behind too far its going to be tough.

They held Miami to 6, but Tua sucks.

He has 10 INTs and 6 fumbles to date. Playing Tua is like the guy who drills a hole in his boat to let the water out. Supposedly his contract blows up to a gargantuan number next season.

That game was in Cleveland and it was raining. Dolphins wanted no part of that game.

In watching the Seattle game last night, one of the commentators mentioned that one of the things that has made the Seattle D so fearsome was that the often switch between man and zone coverages and are very good at disguising those looks.

We are supposed to have a premier shutdown CB and a solid #2 and an excellent nickel guy, and yet we have rarely played any true man coverages this year. I've been waiting all year to see some man coverages. Maybe they are waiting to save it for some more threatening offenses that what Cleveland has, but I'd like to trot it out this week. Choke this little puppy in his crib, and make the league have to prepare for this evolution in the Pats D
I feel like they play a bunch of cover 1, which is primarily a man coverage. I could be wrong but from watching replays of the game and being able to slow it down and youtube clips that use all 22 it seems like they play it a lot. Like I said maybe I am wrong

Mostly Cover 1 and Cover 3, yeah, you saw correctly.
Looks like another team stacking the box. That GDT is already cursed.

Good eye on seeing cover 3 being a highly used coverage.

After I made the post I went and searched for actual data and found this. Not sure how accurate this is

Interesting note is how often the Browns play cover 1

The numbers prove what we already knew.
The Browns have a good defense, and an awful offense

That is right. Sounds like a good thing to me. You hate that? You hate sucking the year before?

I think the lack of man coverage is due to (1) Gonzo's hammy not being 100% and (2) the deficiencies at S. I hope we will get to see more of it.

We haven't given up 50 yards to a single Running back yet. I think that streak ends this weekend. You are dead on that Judkins is a problem

they'll load up on the run and dare Gabriel to beat them

and I'm sorry, the cleveland D is decent.......but throw out the Miami game, because Miami is utterly falling apart, and was a bad team to begin with, and this is decent but nothing special D

this team somehow forced Green Bay into a clunker - beyond that? they've been 'meh' - baltimore and detroit lit them up, pittsburg walked through them fairly easily, and a wentz-led banged up minnesota team, who was mid to begin with, beat them

are they better than than tennessee? sure......do they have some good players? sure.......but this ain't the '85 bears, either

honestly i lowballed my game prediction at 20-13.......but I would not be surprised to see cleveland score less and the pats to score significantly more

I wouldn't say a lack of man because they play it fairly often as far as percentages go probably a 30-70 split. It tends to be easier to disguise looks in zone coverages.
