OT: Players you forget were Patriots

Yes.

Demaryius Thomas went to the Jets and then was injured for the season,
No. Bill traded him to the Jets after they signed Antonio Brown. It was an idiotic move to trade him when he knew the offense. Thomas was blind sided and pissed because he was cut previously and signed with the Pats with the intention he was staying.

if memory serves. Add Maurice Harris and Dontrel (?) Inman, who were decent.
No. The 2019 off-season was arguably Bill's worst given the end of the dynasty was nearing. From the draft to the FA signings is what put the nail in the coffin. Harris and Inman never played for the Pats in addition to Bruce Ellington. It seemed as though Bill wasn't even trying.

What do you mean "no"?

Demaryius Thomas went to the JETE and Harris and Inman were on the Patriots, although they only played in pre-season.

Correct me when I am wrong, by all means (though it would be nice if you didn't do it so patronizingly) but please not when I am right.

I will always believe that the Steelers set the Patriots up.

Even though the Raiders let Brown go, all his criminal activity did not arise until he was a Patriot. That was the season where AB arrived at Raiders training camp via hot air balloon. It actually happened.

You really didn't know who J.J. Stokes was prior to him going to NE? Lol. He was a big time college WR at UCLA and the 10th overall selection by SF, but was pretty underwhelming there. Terrell Owens emergence quickly kicked him down the totem pole.
I was 11 years old in 2003 (12 by the time they actually won that Super bowl. I was 3 years old when he was drafted. He stared that college career before I was born.

I watched a lot of NFL Films shows on NFL network with my dad growing up so I learned a good amount of older football through that.

Alright, figured I'd start fun 'late week' thread about some big names during the Tom Brady era that you may have forgot were Patriots.

Here's a list of those who ultimately played in a game (in no particular order)....

Joey Galloway
James Harrison
Fred Taylor
Steven Jackson
Josh Gordon
Chad Ochocinco
Alge Crumpler
Darelle Revis
Vinny Testaverde
Aqib Talib
Junior Seau
Antonio Brown (short stint, but this one is hard to forget)

And here's a few more that were in Pats camp (but never played in the regular season)...
Tim Tebow
Reggie Wayne
Torry Holt

AND here's a bonus fun fact.....Troy Brown ONLY played for the Patriots and only played in the Drew Bledsoe and Tom Brady eras....so you would think he would only have received touchdown passes from those two players.

And while, yes, he did catch at least one touchdown pass from those two, he also caught a TD pass from the following players........

Dave Meggett
Adam Vinatieri
David Patten
Vinny Testeverde

Pretty crazy, right?
Reggie Wayne and tory Holt retired during training camp right? I remember crumpled was great that season.. dropped the TD in the red area in the divisional against the jets...

Good to hear from your younger point of view.. most of us are 45 plus on the forum..

Good to be the younger perspective because at 33 in a college/yuppie city like Boston I often find myself the older guy in the room now lol
Lol.. oh I definitely get it. At 47 myself I'm fortunate to have grown up as a teen in the 90s.. in Boston..to have seen so much great moments in sports in the 80s& 90s... I like the balance I get from some of the older posters and then some of the younger posters like yourself..

I clarified that he was traded. What you posted can be interpreted that he left the Pats and signed with the Jets. I already explained that he didn't want to go there. And you are wrong saying he "went to the Jets and was injured". He played in 11 games and caught 433 yards and a 1 TD. You also said Harris and Inman were decent. I corrected you on that as well. They were both released before even playing in a single game.
Correct me when I am wrong, by all means (though it would be nice if you didn't do it so patronizingly) but please not when I am right.
The only thing you were right about was that Thomas was on the Jets in 2019. And I meant nothing by my previous post. We all get things mixed up every now and then and that's what fellow posters are here for to fill in the blanks.

Well, that explains it then. J.J. was cooked by the time he went to NE, so it wasn't a big signing just like when they signed Joey Gallaway, Ocho Cinco, Torry Holt and Reggie Wayne. All of them were past their expiration date.

I was a 90's kid and the Pats started their push for AFC contention in 1996 when I was 14 years old. The internet had very basic stats and that was it. Sunday Ticket was fairly new wasn't available unless you had Direct TV. So I had to watch as many games on local TV as I could as my crash course on what players or teams were good. I also read the sports page daily and looked forward to the game predictions. Those were the days. Later on, I relied on magazines such as The Sporting News, Athlon and Lindy's to name a few to give you a crash course on draft prospects. It's too easy these days for the younger kids. However, the are gaslight by PFF giving them false hope on who's good.

Vincent "Undertaker" Brown - I met him during an off season on a high school running track in Duluth, Georgia. He was shocked that I knew who he was. # 59.

Marty Schottenhiemer was a NE Patriot.

Nick Buoniconti was drafted by the Pats in the 13th round.

Andre Tippet- I met him, Bob and Jonathan Kraft at the AZ Pats fan club the night before SB 42. I had bought a white Tippet jersey on clearance years ago and was wearing it. I didn't even know that Tippet was coming. Tippet was being inducted or was voted into the NFL HOF and Kraft was showing him a good time. Tippet signed my jersey.

If we're going for obscure players who are fan legends, I'll second your Bam Childress and add Buddy Parnham.

As for famous names, you could add Michael Jordan (OG).

I'm going to leave out players-you've-forgotten-because-you-are-a-casual-fan (Aqib Talib? seriously?) and players-you've-forgotten-because-they-were-never-very-good (Don Davis) but here are three players who had successful careers elsewhere:

Larry Centers (great career but not in New England long enough to make much impact)
Derrick Burgess (another of BB's but-I-met-him-at-the-Pro-Bowl misjudgements)
Duane Starks (watching him trying to figure out who to cover was like watching a Westerner looking for the right platform in a Japanese train station)
Brian Waters (great player, great signing, but wanted to leave to be with his family)
Duane Starks was so bad, like Monty Beisel, he is impossible to forget even after 20 years... going to disagree with your assertion that he had a successful career elsewhere... was bad everywhere he played

As for Don Davis, i thought he was impossible to forget - jumped ship from the rams to the Pats after 36... one of the first signs that we could pull talent... that is why i mentioned him because i didn't think people remembered him... as for him not being "very-good" he did his job, and did it well while he was here... can't ask for more than that from a depth signing...

He was indeed bad in New England, but he received a 5-year $23 million deal from the Cardinals after his rookie deal with the Ravens at a time when the NFL cap was $71 million. They must have thought he was good!

You originally listed Don Davis as a forgotten player. I would have thought you were right first time! My most vivid memory is that he became an ordained minister and was a chaplain to the team.

Big Ted Washington wasn't a Patriot long enough for a red jacket but if Kraft ever makes an exception to that rule I hope it's him. Meant so much to that 03 defense.
