I don't know why it's so important to denigrate a great football upset and one of the key games in NFL history.

No one is denigrating its significance as a "great football upset" -- it certainly was. But calling it a key game in NFL history is inaccurate, unless you're interpreting it as persuasive evidence toward the AFL-NFL merger two years later.

Oh, I've no doubt that the Jete do everything they can to extend the falsehood, and to get their NFL offices to do the same. But note that even on the rings it says "World Champions" not "NFL Champions." The NFL Champions that year were the Colts, and we shouldn't take that away from them.

But don't take my word for it. Just read all of @Tunescribe's Annual Jete Suck threads. That's where I'm getting this info; never would have thought of it this way otherwise.

I applied only original AFL franchises to the 19 of 59 Super Bowl winners. And a good portion of those were repeat winners (Patriots, Chiefs, Dolphins, Broncos, Raiders).

If you ever get to NFL HQ they have a wall of the rings for Super Bowl Champs and it starts with 1967 (SB1) thru todayso if it is an exhibition game, nobody told them!.

Bills, Chargers, Oilers/Titans ( 3 of original 8 AFL teams)never won a super Bowl but all won an AFL championship or two.

Well, they needed to move 3 teams over to make it even - the leagues were at 15 NFL and 9 AFL teams at the time of the agreement, and 16 and 10 respectively at the time of the merger. It sounds like all NFL teams were offered the opportunity to move, and those 3 accepted providing they got compensated for it (it was viewed as a major step down). It’s hard to believe now, but the Steelers were the NFL’s laughing stock at the time, viewed as even more of a disaster than the Cardinals. They could use all the money they could get. Similarly Art Modell had no money, as would be seen even more clearly 25 years later, so he jumped at the offer. Not sure if the Colts needed the money as badly as the other 2, but obviously they wound up going for it.

The Jets, on the other hand, had to make payments to the Giants for years as part of the agreement, for encroaching on the Giants territory. The Raiders did too, to the 49ers, and that was another reason Al Davis raised his middle finger at the league when he moved them to LA.
