JETS SUCK 2025 EDITION (OFFICIAL): DIVINE INTERVENTION DENIED

No. What you have posted is a link to an online marketing platform. The NFL does not officially recognize Super Bowl III as a league championship game; technically, it was a postseason exhibition tilt between AFL and NFL champions. The Jete might have self-congratulated themselves with "world champions" rings but never in franchise history have they won a National Football League title.

Little-known factoid: Cheeves owner Lamar Hunt informally coined the term "Super Bowl" in 1966 from the popular "super ball" kids toy. It wasn't adopted for the NFL-AFL postseason contest until Jete vs. Colts in 1969.
My only regret is that I can only give you one winner tag.

The Jets won an exhibition game. They get credit for being AFL Champions in the 1969 season.

I'm not buying it. They won the last game of the year. That's a championship.
It doesn't matter if you're 'buying it' or not. It's a fact. They won the AFL Championship in 1969, and an exhibition game after that.

I'm not buying it. They won the last game of the year. That's a championship.

Only unofficially -- nothing more than that. It was not an NFL championship, that was won by the Colts vs. Cleveland, 34-0.

It doesn’t matter whether or not you buy it. What matters are facts.

Fact is, winning the Super Bowl didn’t mean that you won the NFL championship until Super Bowl 5.

Prior to that, you either were NFL Champions who also won the Super Bowl, or AFL Champions who also won the Super Bowl.

Say whatever you like, but if you look at the NFL record book, they list the Baltimore Colts as the 1968 NFL Champions and the Minnesota Vikings as the 1969 NFL Champions.

Yeah I agree. My level of ****ting on the Jete has limits. Unbelievable that I just typed that. They won the Super Bowl, that counts. It's just so long ago that it's irrelevant.

Thought experiment:

If you were to assemble people who used to be Jets onto their own team, they’d be better than the Jets.

Certainly they’d have the deepest QB room in the league between Rodgers, Darnold, Geno with Zach Wilson on the practice squad.

Todd Bowles coaching is solid. Saleh as D coordinator.

There are some talented defensive players scattered through the league. There’s Mekhi Becton on OL.

I can’t think of many impactful skill position players, but they don’t have to be good to be better than the actual Jets.

Well, I guess the NFL forgot to check in with you, they certainly seem to count it as a Championship

They beat Johnny U and the Colts in a game no one thought they had a chance.

They didn't have control over the "playoff" format or the "Super Bowl" game to be played - they just went out and beat Johnny U and Colts when every single NFL Executive and Fan laughed in their faces at the prospect. Championship in my book, and apparently, the NFL's as well.
Oh, I've no doubt that the Jete do everything they can to extend the falsehood, and to get their NFL offices to do the same. But note that even on the rings it says "World Champions" not "NFL Champions." The NFL Champions that year were the Colts, and we shouldn't take that away from them.

But don't take my word for it. Just read all of @Tunescribe's Annual Jete Suck threads. That's where I'm getting this info; never would have thought of it this way otherwise.

Or are you a secret Jete fan?

That's fine. But not an NFL Championship. That was won by the Colts, in the 1968 NFL Championship Game. You've no right to take that away from them.

From Wikipedia: In 1968 the Colts returned with the continued leadership of Unitas and Shula and went on to win the Colts' third NFL Championship and made an appearance in Super Bowl III.

The NFL itself doesn't recognize the first 4 Super Bowl winners as World Champs.

World Champs is kinda silly IMO. No one else plays American Football, except Canada. Even that's not the same.

Champions of what, exactly? Neither NFL or AFL recognized the winner of the exhibition as their champions at the time.
I don't know why it's so important to denigrate a great football upset and one of the key games in NFL history. Maybe people that weren't football fans at that time don't appreciate its importance to AFL fans.

You do you, but I'd like to point out that is the Jets Suck thread, not the History of the AFL thread.

Jete catchin' strays elsewhere in the forum...

That means my team lost 2 Superbowls.

It wasn't even called the "Super Bowl" then. Your team won the first two postseason exhibition games vs. the AFL champs.

Hey it still counts in my book. At least we have bragging rights over KC and Then Oakland.
