JETS SUCK 2025 EDITION (OFFICIAL): DIVINE INTERVENTION DENIED

How am I almost 33 years old and the last time the Jets made the playoffs was still before I graduated highschool. That’s actually ridiculous

Try this: were your parents married when the Jete won their Super Bowl? Dating, maybe?

This image unfortunately perpetuates the myth that the Jets have won an NFL Championship, which they have not.
so they won the first ever game called the "Super Bowl" (SBIII) but it wasn't an NFL championship?

Obviously no love for the Jets, just curious what you mean

Nope. They were in the AFL then. It was not an official championship for the NFL or the AFL. Effectively, just a high profile, post season, exhibition game.

Just guessing but I think he's referring to the fact it was AFL vs NFL for the first few so the Jets technically won an AFL title and the SB. The official merger to one NFL was a season later.

Well, I guess the NFL forgot to check in with you, they certainly seem to count it as a Championship

They beat Johnny U and the Colts in a game no one thought they had a chance.

They didn't have control over the "playoff" format or the "Super Bowl" game to be played - they just went out and beat Johnny U and Colts when every single NFL Executive and Fan laughed in their faces at the prospect. Championship in my book, and apparently, the NFL's as well.

Yea I know about the logistics of those early seasons.. Just never heard it not referred to as a Championship

I'm old enough to be a grandfather, and when the Jete won that made-for-TV staged marketing event between the AFL and the NFL, LBJ was president and I was in elementary school. My brother is one and a half years older than me, and his grand-daughter just graduated high school this year.

I was born in 86 so all I have is NFL Films and the internet/youtube - I respect your opinion so if what you're saying is true, I believe you

No. What you have posted is a link to an online marketing platform. The NFL does not officially recognize Super Bowl III as a league championship game; technically, it was a postseason exhibition tilt between AFL and NFL champions. The Jete might have self-congratulated themselves with "world champions" rings but never in franchise history have they won a National Football League title.

Little-known factoid: Cheeves owner Lamar Hunt informally coined the term "Super Bowl" in 1966 from the popular "super ball" kids toy. It wasn't adopted for the NFL-AFL postseason contest until Jete vs. Colts in 1969.

The Super Bowl doesn't count?

What you see from NFL Films is as Tunes points out, heavy duty marketing from NFL. There is truth that the Jets beating the Colts was of course not expected, and that this helped show the marketing operatives that there was a marketing up-side to the AFC-NFL merger that eventually happened, especially as TV became more of an influence on the game.

Back then the Super Bowl was not an NFL championship, it was a made-for-TV post-season marketing exercise between the NFL and the AFL, which were two separate leagues back then. It was an exhibition, not a championship.
I'm not buying it. They won the last game of the year. That's a championship.
