And here’s some credit to the Patriots for having conviction in Drake Maye in 2024.

The opportunity was there for a team riddled with holes to build up capital by using the No. 3 pick as a trade chip. The Vikings offered the Patriots the 11th pick, the 23rd pick and their 2025 first-round pick (along with Day 3 pick swaps that favored Minnesota) to go up eight spots to No. 3 and get Maye. The Giants offered their 2025 first-rounder to move up three spots, from No. 6 to No. 3.

In the Giants scenario, the Patriots would’ve had their shot at Michael Penix Jr., J.J. McCarthy and Bo Nix. In the Vikings scenario, they could’ve gotten McCarthy or Nix. And ultimately, they decided that Maye was better than those quarterbacks and the combination of draft capital they would’ve gotten after taking one of the other guys at No. 6 or No. 11.

It’s also a good reference point going forward that if you believe in a guy at that position, like the Patriots very much did that spring (they loved how Maye endured a tough 2023 season and refused to blame anyone else for it), the opportunity to get him is priceless.

Maye has been studying football at a very high level since high school.

You know his study has to have included a lot of focus on Brady and what made him so good. I’d bet Maye knows more about what made Brady great than most anybody else, and is consciously emulating a lot of QB12’s traits.

If the Pats had the first pick, they would have traded Cam Ward for a Top 10 pick in 25 (which they would have used on Campbell) & one or two additional first rounders. They would have been setup to dominate the league. Mayo should never show his face in New England for screwing that up.

Drake Maye is elevating everyone around him—that’s what stands out most. Week 1 was basically his preseason, just shaking off the rust, but since then he’s been a top-five quarterback every week in my eyes. You can see the players feeding off his confidence and composure; he’s not just fitting in, he’s making the whole offense sharper

My Grandfather was a Yankees Fan, he saw the team go from Ruth, to DiMaggio to Mantle. I always wondered how amazing that must have been.

I’m beginning to think it’s possible the Pats are about to go through a similar experience…

There's been a lot of media chatter regarding Drake Maye not looking great. The spray throws, the missed reads. I fully anticipated that the transition to the JMcD system would take some time. Are you legitimately concerned or is this just media hype and unrealistic expectations that Maye should be looking like a top 5 QB early on in year two?

I recall fundamentals were a huge point of emphasis last year, and if memory serves, he made significant progress. But now his fundamentals are being called out as partly responsible for his inaccuracy, both in preseason and last Sunday. So, are his fundamentals still a big issue? And if yes, why did he regress? Why didn't he come back this spring with those locked down? If he was even moderately like TB12 in terms of his drive to be better, he'd have been working over the whole offseason to improve fundamentals. Either he didn't work very hard on it, or he did and it didn't take. Both are...

4000 yards is a pipe dream.
It's only his second year. His receiving group and OL are still easily bottom third of the league.
He has potential but has not consistently proven anything yet.
RB's and TE's are OK but not great.
First year in McDaniel's system
It is not a certainty that he will excel
Expect TD's = Interceptions


He and the team are most likely at least year away from showing real growth and ability to put points on the board consistently.
Hoping that not too much is expected of him this year. Josh Allen did not start to shine until year 3.

FWIW I like Schlerith, despite him being a former Bronco. I like that he is old-school and like Brady keeps complaining about how the modern NFL rules don't give players the opportunity to practice much at all and hit during practice even less.
