NFL Trade Deadline Discourse

There is no way the Pats are trading a 2026 first round pick for Olave. Not with his concussion history and the fact he has been a good but not great WR when healthy.
Of course not. Hell no!! I'd say a 2nd or 3d.

I like B hall as well. However would the Jets ever do business with us? A division opponent?
I doubt it. They're too much of a bunch of Wussies to do it, even though such a trade would be the least of their present and future problems.

Yes! I don't know what's up with thier defense either. But Wilson must be unhappy. He's the guy that I'd love to have!

This team is obviously a contender.

We are in playoff position now and the estimate of the probability of making the playoffs is 58%.
We are 3-2 coming off of a year with one of the worst rosters in the NFL. If we make a playoff run, it is because of the weakness of our schedule, not because of the superiority of our roster. Don't rush the rebuild and give up assets. Let the season play out with common sense additions and don't be stupid trying to get deeper into the playoffs. Let it come to us.

Wolf was working for Belichick. He couldn't over rule Belichick. Belichick didn't like analytics. Wolf couldn't go over Belichick's head and start an analytics department.
Wolf was hired by the Krafts and collaboration was announced by Bob. Wolf came from the West Coast school of football, which Jonathan tried to force BB switch to in 2022 and not surprisingly they switched to the moment Bill was gone and Mayo was the guy.
This team's crappy drafting was going on for years before Wolf. Wolf wasn't here in 2018 when the Pats took Sony Michel in the first round over Nick Chubb
Sony was the correct choice. Chubb sucked at pass blocking.... we had a 43 year old QB.

Chubb wouldn't have played at all... the same way Damien Harris and Rhamondre didn't play until they learned how to pass block.

This isn't fantasy football... it's real football.
or 2019 when the Pats took N'Keal Harry over Deebo Samuel or AJ Brown.
N'Keal sucked. They shouldn't have taken a WR at all, should have gone offensive line. Tom Brady got hurt in 2019, the offense tanked and the season was over.
From 2017-2019, the ONLY draft pick that worked out was Detrich Wise.
In 2017 they only made four draft picks because the team was so good a rookie would have a hard time making that roster. They traded away most of their picks into the future... the first pick they made in 2017 was in the third round. Not drafting isn't the same as drafting poorly. Also Bentley Dugger, Uche, Jennings, Onwenu, Meyers were all good players. They were pretty average at drafting after 2017 and before collaboration, collaboration missed on Mac Jones and that hurt but hit on some other players. Collaboration without Bill missed on everyone. Blaming BB for 2024 is silly.

Oh baloney... talentless teams lose regardless of schedule.

The Dolphins and Jets play the same schedule the Patriots do... what's their excuse?

This team has the talent, play better football, stay healthy... win now.

One last one. Dugger, Uche, Jennings, and Owenu were all drafted in 2020. Wolf was with the team for that draft. You are kinda making the case that the addition of Wolf actually made the drafting better.

Meyers was an undrafted free agent in 2019. I will give you that one. Bentley was was a good pick. I give you that one two. Still doesn't save the fact that the drafts from 2017-2019 were awful.

And if you want to disqualify 2017 because there were so few picks., why not switch it with 2105 which was a bust. BTW, the reason why the Pats didn't have a second round pick in 2017 was because the Pats traded that pick for Kony Ealy and a third round pick (they drafted Derrick Rivers with that pick). Excellent trade.

Hahaha… Wolf had been there less than a month when the 2020 draft occurred. So in your estimation Wolf needed a full year to get ready for the 2024 draft, but a few weeks in was making picks in 2020 draft?

Just say you hate Bill and be honest… 2024 was entirely Elliot Wolf… nobody else.

Stop with your BS. Being critical of Belichick’s is not hating. I have praised him far more than I criticized him. But bring the Belichick discussion to the Belichick thread. I am done with it here.

Yes! He's a talented guy and excellent route runner. But we need guys that play on the outside not more possession wrs. Williams wins off the line all the time but never gets the ball. That needs to change. With Diggs carrying coverage now Williams should have all the opportunities.

Hollins & Douglas have played ~57% & ~37% of the WR snaps. There’s room to expand Williams’ role and upgrade WR at the deadline.

The pats best offense has been 11 personnel. There will be other options but upgrading WR makes sense if it won’t cost significant draft capital.

You would think barefoot Hollins would be doing more with those snaps. He's a mediocre receiver.

We actually have a half-way decent roster, compared to the sorry state of most teams. Other than Philadelphia, almost every team has a roster with holes. Some are better than others, but none are exactly the 1970s Steelers, with HOFers at every position. The Pats have cornerstone players at QB, LT, DT, DT and CB, strong STs, and average talent everywhere else (average being not very good).

But I agree with you about not rushing the rebuild. The goal should be to build a long-term solid roster. Not opposed to opportunities if they arise, but don't sacrifice to plug short term holes with JAGs.

I wanted them to trade for him even before Gibson's injury (as they've been reducing his carries, especially with Braelon Allen, who I was pounding the table for in that Draft). He's still young, is a true 3 Down RB, and with him, Stevenson, and Henderson, that would be a fine RB Corps (especially if it didn't cost too much for draft capital).
Why on earth would the Jets trade him to the Pats?

Yes, we are an effective passing team. 1-1 has Diggs, Boutte, Hollins, Henry, and Henderson/Stevenson on the field. Hopefully, our WR addition will be Williams. After all, that is the point of drafted a WR early.

Since Alvin Kamara was discussed, here is what a Bleecher Report article says on him and other potential players available for trades:

Projected Trade Value: Conditional 2026 4th-Round Pick

The Saints picked up their first win of the season on Sunday, besting the Giants.

While keeping standout running back Alvin Kamara would help keep the Saints competitive and allow them to continue evaluating quarterback Spencer Rattler, trading the 25-year-old would also make sense.

Moving Kamara, who has recorded 17 receptions for 360 scrimmage yards and a touchdown, would likely bring a quality return. That's relevant because the Saints may dive back into the quarterback market next year if Rattler or rookie Tyler Shough can't solidify the position.
There's a chance Kamara would be a cap casualty next offseason anyway. New Orleans is projected to be $18.8 million over the salary cap, and it could save $8.5 million by releasing the 30-year-old with a post-June 1 designation in the spring.

With Kendre Miller taking over a bigger role in the offense—he received more carries than Kamara in Week 5—the Saints have a chance to make a move.

Potential Suitors: Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers

I agree completely, our pass game is very effective as is and with 2 potential starters not getting a lot of run right now (I am including Chism because we don't know one way or the other). Williams has a ton of ability and I think will open this offense up even more than it already is. I really do not understand the sentiment of wanting to trade for a big name WR.
