NFL Trade Deadline Discourse

I like Myers and realistically he should still be a patriot. But if you look at our current WRs. If we traded for Myers it would kinda of create some position redundancy. As Diggs moves all around so no issues there.. Hollins is the blocking wr, Boutte is the #2 option. Pop gets sprinkled in. Williams is the deep threat option.. just trying to figure where Myers would play?

I agree.

I like Meyers, but what he offers is really one of the last areas we need to strengthen.

The 2024 draft run by Wolf was all BB's fault? What a load of rubbish. It is amazing that the BB haters will make up anything while saying "In fairness". LOL
No BB hate from this poster. But I hated the idea of seeing a legendary NFL savant like BB go to college ranks. I wonder if he will return to the NFL??

Yes! He's a talented guy and excellent route runner. But we need guys that play on the outside not more possession wrs. Williams wins off the line all the time but never gets the ball. That needs to change. With Diggs carrying coverage now Williams should have all the opportunities.

In fairness, so far the the offseason free agency has been a home run thus far and the draft is looking pretty good.

I am not sure if the problems prior to this was Wolf and Groh or they were just hamstrung by Belichick's antiquated scouting department and process. I mean this team's problems drafting predated either guy.

Since Belichick left, Wolf has spent a lot of time expanding and redesigning the scouting department. Most of those changes wouldn't have kicked in by the time free agency and the draft rolled around last year and they were relying on the Belichick era scouting.
That's a good point Rob. I always feel Wolf is overly blamed, when he was hamstrung by Belichick and was not allowed to use his new system

It is absolutely at least partly Belichick’s fault. All the in season scouting for the 2024 draft was done under Belichick and directed by Belichick with the scouting tools that Belichick wanted them to use. They didn’t start scouting players after the NCAA season was over.

The scouting for any draft is done in the previous season from the draft. So they were scouting players like Polk while Belichick was the GM. They were using the tools he allowed them to use.

I don’t blame Belichick and Pioli for the the 2000 draft disaster because he was using Bobby Grier’s scouting. That was more Bobby Grier’s draft than Belichick’s. That is what happens when there is regime change. It isn't about hating Belichick.

The fact is that Belichick didn't believe in analytics for player evaluations. Most of the best drafting teams like the Eagles live by it. Since Belichick left, Wolf has created and expanded the analytics department and expanded the player personnel department in general where Belichick had a very small staff. When Vrabel came in, the effort to expand the scouting department was even stronger. This is well documented.

Good grief.... Wolf has been here since 2020. Collaboration started in the 2021 draft.

What is a drafting "system," there's no such thing. There is literally no time that is good time, and no system that calls for signing or drafting ****ty players. Okorafor, Leverett, Jordan, the entire 2024 draft class outside of Drake Maye... these were just bad players... period.

Good and great players can play in any system, bad players can't play in any system.

2024 was Wolf and Jonathan, it was collaboration unhindered by BB... and it sucked. 2025 was Vrabel/Cowden and it seemed to be working out.

Wolf was working for Belichick. He couldn't over rule Belichick. Belichick didn't like analytics. Wolf couldn't go over Belichick's head and start an analytics department.

This team's crappy drafting was going on for years before Wolf. Wolf wasn't here in 2018 when the Pats took Sony Michel in the first round over Nick Chubb or 2019 when the Pats took N'Keal Harry over Deebo Samuel or AJ Brown. From 2017-2019, the ONLY draft pick that worked out was Detrich Wise. Literally that is the only successful draft pick in those three years. Ok, Jake Bailey was good for a couple of years, but it is damning that a punter is your second best draft pick in a three year period.

If Wolf sucks at drafting, Belichick was far, far worse over the last 5-10 years he was here.

I don't want to turn this into another Belichick fight. So I am done arguing it.

I was just pointing out that the new scouting system the Patriots are using is far better now than it was over the previous decade and that I think Wolf and maybe Groh has something to do with it. I think Wolf should be judged for what he did this year and going forward and not what he did the first year he was in charge of scouting when he hadn't implemented his scouting system. That was it.

Rob, all NFL Patriots local insiders all said that the overall organizational structure is much better now than it's been in the last 7,8 years.

Nice player when he’s healthy. Club option for next year is $15.5m. Still want to give up next year’s 1 for him?
Not a 1 probably not even a 2 but I think we can figure something out.

TP.. we wouldn't give up a first for him.. 2nd or 3rd would likely be the compensation.

@signbabybrady

Destinations for BB

Miami
LV ( personally I believe the Carroll run won't last long)
Cincinnati
Cleveland

Breece Hall. That's the list.
I wanted them to trade for him even before Gibson's injury (as they've been reducing his carries, especially with Braelon Allen, who I was pounding the table for in that Draft). He's still young, is a true 3 Down RB, and with him, Stevenson, and Henderson, that would be a fine RB Corps (especially if it didn't cost too much for draft capital).

There is no way the Pats are trading a 2026 first round pick for Olave. Not with his concussion history and the fact he has been a good but not great WR when healthy.

I'd fire Wolf immediately if he proposed this to me as an Owner.

I like B hall as well. However would the Jets ever do business with us? A division opponent?
