NFL Trade Deadline Discourse

He will be a post June cut/trade where the dead cap is $15M.
What I saw is speculation he’ll be cut before the 2026 guarantees kick in on the third day of the league year. So, next spring, before early March.
It's hard to see that you didn't realize that was a joke.
I realized it was a joke. It started me wondering if he will ever play another down in the NFL. I was really looking for his age (31 atm) and thought the financial deets were also interesting so shared them. Couldn’t resist using the opportunity to poke you of course.

Either way, this is the last we've seen of Hill in Miami.

Saints edge rusher Carl Granderson

you make believe that dead money doesn't count against the cap. It is real cap money; the only issue is when it is paid.

How about a linebacker, we have mostly jags at that position
Yes, Vrabel will always be looking at LB's. After all, Ponder, Ellis and Mapu are on our 53.

Perhaps, just perhaps an upgrade is available at a reasonable price.

Let's go a little crazy...

Budda Baker - AZ Cardinals. Why? Well it be a massive upgrade at safety. I think we've seen enough of Hawkins. As for why AZ may do it? Maybe they are thinking of a rebuild with Murray not likely being the guy. They are a tiny bit against it cap wise, not super against it... but if they want to rebuild this is the start of the moves they make. His contract becomes big the next 2 years. He will be turning 30 in about 100 days so if they want to get value out of him, now is the time.

Why would the Patriots do it? Cause Baker is still one of the best at his position. While he will be 30 soon... safeties can play well into their early 30s... so even in the 26, 27 and 28 seasons he can still be probowl level more or less during the Maye rookie contract window. They have the cap space to absorb it and are clearly unhappy with their safety play. They will also be dumping Dugger next year one way or another. So will be saving at least 8M if not more if they trade him or time the cut. Or we can send Dugger their way and eat a fair amount of his cap this year as part of the deal along with a draft pick.

Pats send Dugger a 2nd and eat 9M and we get Baker. The only downside is AZ is currently 2-2, but going by past performance they can't feel good about their playoff chances. They have Titans Colts and GB... assuming they go 1-2 they will be 3-4 and then the bye before playing Dallas on Nov 3rd.. if they lose that game at 3-5 they are likely out and may be looking to deal.
$15M a year for Baker is probably a good addition. The issues are the pick and whether they want to trade him.

I don't see this happening. He is at least as valuable to AZ as he is to us.

I'm all for trading Day 3 picks to acquire other teams' top talent. Not likely to happen, though it has happened before (see: Talib, Aqib).

But I'm not in favor of trading high draft picks for over-priced veterans. And in general, the Pats aren't 1 or 2 players away from competing this year.

I'm very confused about this response. This is when the Dolphins have their out of his contract and the dead money is reasonable.

Perhaps, I am misunderstanding you.

What trade and contract are you suggesting?

===================================

Dead money makes zero difference to the acquiring team.

If we sign a contract with $20M guarantee for a one-year contract, I do not care at all whether we pay $15M of cap in the first year and $5M when he is gone or simply pay $20M in the first year.

For us, cap money is very easy to move around.

I'm referring the the Dolphins getting out of the contract now that he's injured. The out was 2026 regardless and the injury gives them the excuse to pull the trigger. I'm not talking about the acquiring team.

I thought Legette was pretty good for a rookie last year.

Almost 500 yards with a bottom 5 QB?

Why would they ever trade him for a late round pick.
He had respectable stats but it took a lot of targets to get him there. Granted some of it is on the QB but Legette's a wildly inefficient part of the passing game.

How bad is Antonio Gibson's injury?

Are we gonna need to see what's out there?

It sure seemed like it's going to be a long-term injury at the very least.
I'd hesitate to trade real draft capital for someone. But a pick swap for a 2nd/3rd level guy, someone on an expiring contract maybe...ok.

I feel like it's more of a 'sign a guy off his couch' situation, but I'm just speculating.

I agree. Seeing Gibson with tears in his eyes I figured he was just told his season is probably over. I immediately thought we have to get another running back. Henderson is not a 3 down back and so Rham will also play but you cant just keep letting him touch the ball if its in constant jeopardy of a fumble. We lost Larson earlier this year and I would have loved to see him play. Didnt we pick up another kid after Larson who is on the practice squad? We need some decent depth at RB now. Didnt think this would be the first challenge to address early in the season from a personnel stand point.

RB's are dime a dozen: somebody gotta have a decent player that's rotting away somewhere.

Your couch options are like, Zack Moss and Cordarrelle Patterson.

Trade options are pretty limited, although I wonder if you could pry Breece Hall from the Jets.

Edit: Maybe Tyler Algier from the Falcons.

Bring up Jennings, resign Watt to PS (if he's still available).
