Kraft Selling the Team!! Well sort of...

Interesting, Kraft has stated more than once that a succession plan for keeping the team in the family 'for decades' is in place
They can free up quite a bit of cash to satisfy all of the children (such as this $700 million), as long as none of them demand to cash out in full. I wouldn't be surprised if the will is structured in some way to encourage an agreement like that.

I do wonder if we'll get to a time where the NFL allows other teams to run like a corporation, like the way the Green Bay Packers were grandfathered in. Are teams better off with individual owners?
It’s an excellent question. IMHO the NFL likes the image of every team having an owner, especially the teams who have been owned by one family for decades. They also lose control if they allow corporate ownership.

But fact is allowing corporate ownership would increase the values of the teams. They’ve dipped their toes into that pool with allowing equities to purchase minority shares. Will they ever take the next step? I wouldn’t bet against it.

I'd be surprised if Jonathan holds onto this team after his dad's gone. He's involved in the other businesses, and I don't know how he feels or if he's as passionate about it. Obviously, it takes up a lot of time, and his dad has mentioned on more than one occasion that 'Jonathan is off handling .... ', so he's clearly got enough going on outside of it. So I sort of wonder if, given the valuation, when the time comes (heaven forbid), whether or not he'll move on.
That is a very interesting point....and now...everyone here has an opportunity. Let's start a savings program so when the time comes we can buy the Pats. I can pitch in 5 dollars.

Michelle Wu will be the next CEO of the Patriots. She impressed Bob by beating Josh's ass in the mayor race that never was.

Plus he likes women of Asian decent.

Has anyone told RKK you can't spend money when you're dead? Might as well go crazy spending on the team the next several years... especially with Maye on his rookie deal. Definitely not holding my breath though.

Can anyone tell me what's the difference between selling a part of the team to a minority owner, which has been allowed for a while, and selling to private equity investors, which has only been allowed since 2024?
A couple things:

1) There is a limited list of pre-approved (vetted) private equity firms that are allowed to buy a minority stake in an NFL team.

2) A team cannot sell more than 10% to private equity on aggregate (i.e. no team can have more than 10% ownership by all their private equity partners).

3) A private equity firm cannot ever be the controlling partner/governor which can only be done with a min of 15% stake I think.

Kraft plans to use the money for a retractable domed roof…..

For his Palm Beach home
He should move the lighthouse down there closer to the ocean.

Put the dome on Gillete for s Super Bowl.

he's not spending that money on players... thats going to bank roll the future expansion of the luxury homes like the Miami Condo and add to his fleet of Bentleys... and I'm sure Jonathan will get a slice of the pie so he can, what? add to his stamp collection? have no idea what Jonathan likes to do... but i can picture him collecting stamps...
I didn't know I could respect you more than I have, but here we are!

Why the **** does he need this money?

The reason The Nebbish almost never shows up at the press availabilities is that he doesn’t ever like to be questioned. He’s smart enough to know that he comes across poorly and will never get beyond The Scatback’s shadow. I’m in the camp of those that think that after the little guy croaks Jon will get rid of the team, split the proceeds with the 3 brothers, and go back to relative obscurity. We’ll miss him like we would miss a boil.

84 years old.

He has had a damn good run. Inducting Parcells into the NE HOF was sort of making hay while the sun is still shining. Mending fences.

wholeheartedly disagree... the team won't be sold under Jonathan's stewardship... they have the financial wherewithal to sustain the team long term... Jonathan may not seek out the spotlight like his father does, but from his bio on the Pats website he is an active contributor on multiple NFL committees... they include "Business Ventures, Finance, Legalized Sports Betting and Media Owned and Operated and he is the chairman of the Fan Engagement and Major Events Committee. He is also a member of the 32 Equity Committee."

The Kraft family is going to be involved with the New England Patriots for decades to come...

It's possible, but go back and listen to his introduction of Julian Edelman at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony and you won't doubt that Jonathan Kraft is passionate about the team.

I’m sure he is. I just don’t know if he’d want to shoulder all of it. At the same time, maybe he sells the other businesses and handles just the Patriots. I guess that would also make sense, since at least then he wouldn’t have to do absolutely everything.

Or he starts grooming his heirs.
