Burrow left the Bengals/Jags game in the second quarter on sunday... Caught a case of turf toe after a sack, with the added insult of tearing the toe ligaments instead of spraining them... Reportedly he is going to need surgery on the foot / toe...

We play the Bengals in Week 12...

3 year player Jake Browning is the Bengals back up... went 21/32, 241 yards, 2 tds 3 ints in relief of Burrow... The Bengals hung on to beat the Jags... Looks like a good stat line, til you spot the 3 interceptions...

While he will gain more experience, we will also have some good tape on him by the time 11/23 rolls around, on top of the game film from his rookie season... while i dislike seeing guys get knocked out due to injury, this should help the Patriots cause heading into the last third of the season...

and in case you need a primer on turf toe...

Browning is a pretty good backup and Taylor will have him ready. If the Bengals are still in the playoff hunt i bet they try to bring burrow back in December. Our game definitely is a bit less tough without burrow in though

was just looking at his numbers from 2023, where he started in place of Burrow in the final 7 games of the year... he went 4-3, with wins against Jax, Ind, Min & Cle, with the losses coming against Pit x 2 & KC...

started strong enough, declined slightly towards the end, and had a bounce-back game vs Cle to end the season...

I think Chase not playing would have just as much of an impact as Burrow being out.

It was common in the 1970s due to artificial turf, the playing surface back then was like in door out door carpet layed over concrete that didn't give like real grass. Usually it was sprained ligaments in the big toe, the player would be out for a couple of weeks not months

Chase being out would be huge, but you can't count on that happening... Hopefully Gonzo will be back by then and can blunt his effectiveness

As I wrote in another thread, CIN has been a textbook 'stars and scrubs' team.

Sure it's great to have a talented QB1 and two stud WRs, but that means there's not much money to pay decent linemen.

Burrow, Chase and Higgins take up 44% of CIN's cap this year, 42% next year.

Not much left after paying them.

Should the Bengals trade him since he’s injury prone? Only asking because some fans think we should trade Gonzo which is ridiculous

they aren't worried about the injuries... its all about the money...

I've never been to Cincy so I was considering this one but I'm probably not paying to see the backup.

Tenn or New Orleans a more fun trip anyway.

For sure. Tenn was fun the first time I went. And nothing will ever top my trip to New Orleans! Pretty sure that's where I'm going again to relive some memories.

The other issue is that good starting OL rarely even hit the market anymore. Especially tackles. When they do, they’re old and don’t have much playing time left, and are a higher injury risk. So you kinda have to draft them.

Loved Tennessee this year though i was on the other end by gatlinburg/pigeon forge. The smokies are gorgeous, I’ve always been a beach guy but the mountains are slowly winning me over now

Beach guy all day but wherever they play I will go.

Really a team doing that should also pay the OL and skimp on defense.
If you create the best passing offense in the league, and hire a top DC then just try to create a big play to stop a drive every quarter, you become what the chiefs we’re before they became a defense first team.
