Mac Jones went to a Pro Bowl. If Drake continues to be incapable of reading defenses or going through his progressions or making accurate throws reliably, then they are certainly in the same universe, the same planet. Drake has got to prove it on the field. Not a great start, but with all the changes we should cut him some slack.
Drake can read defenses well.. it appeared that LV was game planning for his running abilities. I think going forward your going to see Vrabel take some of the shackles off Drake and allow him to be more of himself within his skill set.. we drafted him for his overall talent.. wich includes being able to make plays outside the pocket.. the way Drake broke down defenses with his escapability last season is hard for a defense to stop.

The simple assumption would be that they think Diggs, Boutte, Hollins, and Williams are better. I'm all for dressing Chiz over Hollins but we'll have to wait until Vrabel feels he's ready.
I think it's a strong possibility to see chism active Sunday. I'm intrigued by the possibilities of a formation of he and pop together. Like amendola and Edelman. I like Hollins as part of the red zone package.

Well, if Maye isn't the answer at QB as many on here are saying, then this team is humped for at least the next 10 years (best case scenario).
Ten years?

How many teams do you think have been out of the playoffs for even FIVE years. Only ONE! It doesn't take 10

Running is to be expected.
Fields does have the second best rushing season by a QB in NFL history after all.
I'm tending to believe Vrabel and Josh are going to lossen up on drakes running ability.. it seemed like LV game planned for it.. we drafted drake for his football IQ, his arm, athletic ability and ability to make off schedule throws. I believe we see more of that the rest of the way IMO

I hope they don't. Give the guys a few weeks to settle into their roles.

As it is I already feel it's a little schizophrenic the way they deploy them no need to switch it up even more. I'm sure there's a method to their madness as far the way they have subbed them but it feels like a lot to expect Maye to be on the same page with everyone in knew offense so quickly. Deploy the top 3 %90 of the time and let them build something together.

Chism isn't the answer. Drake had at least 5 primary receiving targets active; the four WR's plus Henry.
We also had Hooper, Henderson, Gibson, and Williams available.

We had enough receivers active.
The game plan was good enough to have receivers open.
The play-caller gave them plays to get open.
The receivers were often open.
The OL blocked well enough to give Maye and the receivers time to have open receivers.

============
The OL will get better.
The receivers will be even better at understanding the plays and getting open more often.
=============
There really is only one issue and we are going to need to be patient.

Just BTW, I didn't like LV's approach of running for 2 yards a carry even when the run was completely cut off by the Defense. Their 20 should have been nowhere near enough to win.

The BOTTOM LINE is that LV stopped the patriot running game and as a result receivers were often open. Maye was unable to take advantage. And, yes, I would have played Stevenson even much LESS than we did. Henderson and Gibson make a good pair of RB's.

To me it looked like a coaching point.

It seemed like everytime he left the pocket he was still searching for receivers which obviously we don't want him constantly giving up on plays. But at the same time he would leave the pocket and while he was busy still finding a receiver his running lanes were rapidly closing before he actually decided to scramble.

I think that just takes some in game learning to get a better feel for when to keep the play alive vs tucking and running. But it's got to be more of a decisive decision or he'll get caught and look slow like last week.

Not anything new for him plenty of QBs have to figure out how to balance this. I think we're more used to seeing it the other way where a guy runs to often and too quickly and I think thats what Josh is trying to teach but ultimately Drake's the one on the field and he's got to figure it out. Last Sunday doesn't didn't seem right from that department.

The interception came when his arm was hit while throwing.
Because instead of taking a wide-open checkdown he held the ball, waiting for another heroball throw into double coverage.

They were *ahead* at the time, by the way.

Based on what?

Sure, fine. But it would have made no difference yesterday. Receiver separation wasn't an issue in the slightest.
Sucks that we lost but this is a good teaching lesson for McD. I'm sure him and Maye are going over the tape with McD pointing out all the open receivers that he missed. And in turn it's a good teaching moment for Maye with him telling McD that he can't call only run plays for the entire 2nd half. Maye can process fast enough...him and the WR's (and OL) need reps. Lots of practice and game reps.

It’s amazing how easy it is to play quarterback in the NFL when you’re watching it on tv. We should all do it.

I can't imagine how many times Diggs was open: and Stare-Down my WR's Maye didn't see him.
IT WAS BASICALLY ZERO. You know there is tape right, you can just watch every play, Diggs was NOT open and Maye did not see him so this is just 100% wrong.

Back to the original intent of the thread.
Chism needs a shot, plain and simple. Teams will play zone vs Maye because he has few zone beater receivers, and it protects against him running. He has Diggs that is good vs zone, who was still limited, and Henry but that is it. Everyone else is better vs man, except Chism. Douglas is actually kind of terrible vs zone but good vs man.

Pop is a fine enough receiver, he's average to above average at best. He's more a JAG starter than anything. He's fine and should play some.
Chism is interesting because, on tape, I have not seen a Patriot receiver get open like Chism in recent memory. On tape he is ALWAYS open. The issue is he has not played much vs starter caliber DB's.

Play the guy and let's see, Chism is in the mold of Welker. If teams do play zone the kid might be open all the time. Pop will not be so let's see if Chism can be the 3rd down chain mover we desperately need. He just stands out watching film, he has something special, the issue is it is against backups, need to test him NOW!

To this day, I have no idea why the Boston chattering heads seem so relentlessly negative about their teams, even when they are doing especially well.
They are that way because the majority of Boston sports fans are negative, that’s why the Felger and Mazz show is so popular and does good in the ratings (I do not listen to them).

Look it here, after week 1 there are calls to replace the QB. In the other games thread last night, after one quarter there were a couple people saying the Bears got the better coach.
