What weapons though?

They have Bowers.

But the Raiders are not a team with a lot of weapons.

Perhaps I’m giving Jeanty too much credit. But he was fantastic in college and there were a number of folks here who wanted him at #4. He was supposed to be the next big thing.

Bowers, as you mentioned is a star. Meyer is a really good do it all TE.

I think Jakobi is a top 50 WR. All they are really missing is a WR 1.

They aren’t a super football team, but they have good players at the skill positions. Again, I may be giving Jeanty too much credit. He was contained against the Pats. I’m giving them credit rather than saying he’s a bust

They had 1 carry by a RB in the second half, 1!!!!!! And they started the second half with the lead. And some folks think coaching wasn’t a factor in the loss. Yes the running game wasn’t good in the first half, but to completely abandon it in the second half is not only dumb, it’s completely unacceptable.
I just read neither rhom or henderson had any touches running the ball in the second half. You can't keep the d honest and keep the pressure off the qb without running the ball

I hope I’m proven wrong but I always felt Alt or Bowers were the right choice there. High picks are for generational talents and can’t miss QBs, unless you want to be a franchise perpetually in turmoil.

I don’t disagree with you. But I tell myself Vrabel took the head coaching job because we had the QB (or so he/we thought) and a ton of cap space

Davis blew it at the end there but the 0 blitz was a very dubious play call in that spot.

I swear, it's always a 0 Blitz that is a crippling dubious call, and it's always a CB that's out of place. We had one last year... I forget against who. And we like. Had Gonzalez on their WR3. The WR1 got the catch, of course, and converted on a big down.

Bowles did the same thing against Stafford and the Rams in the 21 playoffs. Left a safety on Cupp. Generates zero pressure with the blitz. Cupp completes a pass to put them in range for the game winning field goal.

I'm not sure why that's a common thing with blown 0 blitzes, I'm not experienced enough to know why, but when they fail, goodness, they fail hard.

DC needs to study Flores more if he wants to blitz often and keep it fresh and effective.

Didn’t Bill Parcells once tell the Pats they accepted losing more easily than they should?
I think that's why all the old captains are no longer here.

Gotta look at the supporting cast, coaching, and the system too.

16 games is nowhere near enough. Look at Lamar Jackson. Hes finally figuring out how to be a pocket QB. Josh Allen needed 3 years. Sam Darold needed 4. Geno Smith is another. Baker Mayfield..on and on.
Depends on how much confidence the coaches have in him that he can develop.
Lamar and Allen both had unique elite skills, maye does not.

Baker, Darnold and Smith all took multiple teams and over 5 years.
Would the Pats really have 5 years worth of patience for Maye? I do not think so

I think Maye comes out firing and looking sharp against Miami.
He def hears the noise, and Mike kind of called him out, he needs to deliver.

For the bolded — that’s just the nature of the call, right? It’s the one call which has zero backup support, so it requires every last one of the 5 men in coverage to execute their part properly. In any other call, there is at least one safety who can leap to support if he sees one of the others mess up.

I don’t agree with the call in that situation. But it’s also a valuable call in right situation. The Gilmore game-sealing INT in SB 53 was a 0 blitz.

that interception by maye changed momentum for vegas the way the hawkins interception changed momentum for us. it was a game changer.

Looking back at it, I was surprised that Bradbury actually played pretty well, but unfortunately Onwenu and Moses both kind of sucked. I can forgive some rust for Moses, but Onwenu just looks like he doesn't give a crap sometimes. Might be willing to give Tyrese Robinson some looks there if he doesn't get it together.

actually, that's not talked about enough. We all give Onwenu such a pass, because the whole OL has sucked historically bad the last 2 years. But, you nailed it. He does completely mail it in a few times per game.

I thought Moses was fine, honestly. There's a reason Maxx Crosby makes as much as he does.

They tried 3 screens, with Onwenu the guard that was supposed to get out in front and block, he was MIA. Needless to say all three screens got blown up.

They might have to make Drake Maybe a game manager until he gets it. He's not ready for prime time we need a Game changing RB to take the pressure off: Henderson might be that guy.
He's not good enough to be a game manager right now. If he can't hit checkdowns, you may as well put someone else in there who can.

Michael Onwenu was terrible on a stunt; that he was the last line of Defense: he had nobody to block initially and completely whiffed on the Stunter. He's not living up to his Big Contract. I think we are going to have to cut our losses with him eventually.

I know a lot of us want to blame Maye, but I blame Josh on this loss.
1) The QB mechanics were off and he was out of rhythm. Reason: The coach makes sure a 22 year old QB focuses on this in practice.
2) No quality scheme running game...none
3) No three step quick passing game against the Raiders zone defense.
4) No balance in the offense...allowing the Raiders to tee off.
5) No RPOs or other plays Maye is likes.

It wasn't just the 50 ****en passes, it was the mix of 50 ****en passes.
McDaniels bears plenty of responsibility, for refusing to at least try to run the ball.

But he can't go out there and throw wide open checkdowns for Maye.

Maye doesn't have elite skills? How do you know that?
