The pats need to make a switch at slot WR

Drake Maye & the O starters should have played a lot more in the preseason... like at least the first half of the second and first half of the third games... the lack of game reps was clearly evident
Vrabel better practice them hard and I don't care who get hurt in practice. Simulate game conditions and stop acting like we are the Iron on the League. We are more like sponges. Again Vrabel's Coaching is on display too.

Geno Smith didn't have a problem with our stupid Zones.

Of course he didn't, and why the Patriots switched back to zone when it was obvious they were having big success in man coverage and pressure up front, was just baffling.

NFL QBs should be like 80% completions against cover 2.

He was the first Patriots WR to have more than 100 yards in a game since....was it Kendrick Bourne in 2021?

Boutte looked like a pro receiver, a real bright spot.
I can't imagine how many times Diggs was open: and Stare-Down my WR's Maye didn't see him.

That's the most frightening thing to me about Maye's development... Dan O did a quick video after preseason game 2 with just 3 plays where there's amazing open opportunities and Maye just looks past them too quickly and scrambles try to make a stupid throw.

I hate to say it, but if he were a 2nd rounder "running QB" - the entire NFL world would be saying he can't read defense or process a NFL-level offense. And he'd be washed out after this 2nd year.

Something better change fast.
Maybe we are back in the QB hunt in 2026. Wait for the calls for DeVito.

According to some people here Maye looked great in preseason and was ready to go.

Drake Maye is the reason why we lost yesterday and I a sure he knows it. We'll just have to see how he responds next week. IF we lose next Sunday and he looks like $h!t. We'll be talking about the 2026 Draft sooner rather than later. I don't want to live through another Mac Jones.
This is a very crazy post.

Are you admiring the Jets and their eternal search for a QB?

Drake Maye isn't in the same universe as Mac Jones. He's infinitely better than Mac.

Is Devito any good?

There could have been a lot of Maye INTs yesterday.

I do.

Boutte is clearly better.
Nobody is a bigger Boutte supporter than me: but I'm not going that far. We better hope the Game isn't passing McDaniels by. His situations away from the Patriots have not been pretty.

Justin Fields played much better than our Drake Maye yesterday: both running and passing.

This should be in the overreaction thread.

Let's be honest does anybody here think K Boutte is a better WR than Pop?? I don't think so: Pop have the potential to be a volume catcher from the Slot: but we need Maye to put it on him: and not over or behind him in the Slot.
Yes, he is - period.
Boutte is more consistent, and more of a "NFL WR" than Pop.

I'm not giving up on Pop Douglas yet... I don't think we have seen the best of him. Right now our Inaccurate QB is holding him back.

Not yesterday though. Maye stunk yesterday and that's putting it lightly .

He better have a rebound.

It's one game. One. I am just as ugly about it as everyone else, but I think we collectively had delusions of grandeur that they were going to flip to page and suddenly be better simply because they added quality coaching and started turning the roster over. The QB is still just a 22 year old kid that didn't come from a QB Factory college. The WRs are still meh. (Boutte had a nice day) The #4 pick looked like a rookie, but for the most part had an ok day. Defense gave up way too many chunk plays, and they didn't run the ball for ****.

Also, he apparently can't run anymore. Bledsoe looked faster than that display yesterday. A couple of those were plays last year that were easy first downs. He just looked slow, and if he's slow now for whatever reason, then he's not a franchise QB. His legs were part of the package. He's not accurate enough to be a pure pocket passer, never has been.
It looked, to me anyway, like he was moving slowly because he was trying to remain a passer... It was clear that he was just thinking too much about almost everything.

NOBODY WANTS to be in the Jets situation and constantly looking for a franchise QB...but many teams can find themselves in that situation due to poor scouting, coaching and drafting supporting players. Pats are currently in that situation. Since Brady left its been a revolving door at QB.

Here is where I give a lot of credit to the Raiders and Tom Brady!! They went outside the box and traded for an experienced veteran Geno Smith who already proved he could play. This required vision, innovative thinking and some element of risk. The Pats front office has not had those qualities in a long long time.
Nice job for Brady and Carrol making a wise bridge QB decision.

The Jets OC has clearly done a better job getting their offense prepared for week 1. Fields, prior looked clueless playing QB, but yesterday he looked confident.

As good as a HC Vrabel is, if his coordinators aren't good, he's gonna be cooked. Lions about to find out how valuable their coordinators were.

McD and Brady was a perfect match - Brady is super accurate with short and intermediate throws. So taking 'profit' with short throws was easy for him. Maye on the other hand, is better at imporvising and trying to make big plays (we saw this last year) and I don't think he's comfortable dinking and dunking. That's why he may be sailing his throws. McD needs to taylor the offense to Maye's skillset.

IF Maye played like Geno Smith yesterday we win. Geno torched us again on Different Team. IF Maye's ceiling is Geno Smith I would take it.
