The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

Gotcha.

I'm not sure what he was supposed to do during the summer maybe try and claim someone at cut down I guess.

The deadline I suppose he could of tried something but he was still focused on Brady and the current team adding Sanu. I guess he could have tried both. But even after the tag I still think Bill figured he and Kraft could make the final deal happen.

Ive always said his 2 biggest mistakes were calling Brady's bluff in his walk year. And waiting a year to draft the next one.

We don't really know what he tried after Brady left rumors he might have tried to get Jimmy back (Shanahan coming of a SB appearance didn't have it in him to trade him). Whatever he did try didn't come thru. Then he still didn't draft one and fell back on Cam after the draft. I wanted Hurts but you don't see me carrying on about it is what it is.
So even you, the biggest Bill bobo in existence and maybe the only one left, admit he botched the Brady situation and couldn't execute a succession plan? He was given the opportunity to identify and develop him in the draft and once again failed, but you still think he should have been given more chances to bring in another quarterback?

Not really adding anything new here, but I'm still a big fan of BB. That said, I was disappointed with NC's performance the other night, and I'm wondering if he can really turn it around there. I was always 50/50 about his chances coaching college, now it feels more like a 30/70 chance he'll right the ship and make that program relevant. Still rooting for him, however!

The one thing Bill had going for him when it came to recruiting at UNC was that his ties to the NFL would help them move from college to the pros

If I'm a recruiter with another team, this is Exhibit A illustrating how BB's grudge is doing exactly the opposite, PREVENTING players from being scouted by NFL teams.

But it's his legacy :-/

Brady deserved a lifetime here just the same as Bill and without a doubt the time to make sure that happen was after the '18 season. I don't think he ever really thought Brady would walk.

As far as the succession he tried with Jimmy and Brady far far out played it. He tried again a few times with Stidham and whoever else but they just never turned out to be good enough.

Then after Brady was gone he only got one true shot with Mac so yes I think he should have been given more chances.

“We’ll cross that bridge when we start looking at players”

Aka: we ain’t drafting that school

This is a bad look for BB and the UNC program. I bet the school, boosters and players aren't too happy with his decision.

Bill must feel that’s a distraction that his youngsters can’t handle right now, maybe later that will change . After mondays game I don’t think many players showed they were worth a look.

I think clearly people inside our building feel like Bill is singling out the Patriots. There is an unnamed UNC source who people are assuming is Lombardi that would seem to give it some credence. I tend to think saying it's Lombardi is a bit presumptuous.

Im still holding out hope it's an all scouts thing. I think if this thing continues to blow up as it is someone will need to address it not unnamed. And that will be interesting.

I'd like to think Bill let his parnoia over spying keep all scouts out. Maybe he shouldn't have done that or maybe he thinks there's rats there. Its easy to point a finger and say he shouldn't do that the players want to be seen by scouts but the Connor Stalions of the world do exist and there's reasons organizations both pro and college do all sorts of things to keep info hidden.

And given he decided to move on from Brady, why didn't the "GOAT coach" come up with something better than Jarrett Stidham and Cam Newton?

Ya know, like Lamar Jackson?

He was there for the taking while we were on the clock, but we took "bone on bone" Sony Michel instead.

I think it's pretty fair to say evidence supports the idea that BB had no real plan for the future.

His arrogance really led him to believe he was the reason for the Patriots' success and that QB was just another interchangeable part.

So you admit when it comes to both his evaluation of Brady's skills and managing his contract status with the team, Bill blew it. You also admit he didn't have a suitable replacement lined up after his misevaluation of Brady's intent to return. Then you admit that Bill misevaluated Mac Jones as a quarterback prospect. Bill botched the most important position in sports multiple times in his last 5 years here, but still you think he should have been given a lifetime contract to get another chance to swing and miss.

Even if Bill knew he didn't want to re-sign Tom, I still wouldn't have taken Lamar Jackson in the 1st round for several reasons. One, he wasn't going to see the field until after 2019. That's two years of getting nothing out of your 1st round pick while your aging QB needed that pick to help him in his last years. Two, Jackson was viewed as a boom/bust pick.

That's fine, but he was OK with using a 2nd on Jimmy G and let him sit for three years. Now he had an even older QB1. To me it was **** or get off the pot time. He didn't give Tom a contract that would motivate him to stay. He didn't take Lamar knowing he might have been boom or bust but knowing he had won the Heisman. He would have had to change a lot of things to adapt to Lamar's style, but that's what someone does if they want to win more games than any other previous NFL coach.

He had Plan A and Plan B and did neither. What he did instead was kick the can down the road, and that bit him in the ass big time.

I was fine with Michel until I heard he was bone on bone. The Wynn pick I actually hated, especially after they traded for Brown a day later. Calvin Ridley should've been the 1st pick which almost this entire board/media wanted.

Agreed, but one can work around not having a great WR1 or RB, yet one cannot work around not having a great QB.

That's not what I said

The level of hate far far exceeds anything that a Patriots message board should contain for someone who lead this team to 6 SB wins. and sorry but if you not seeing the insane level of hate then it's logical to think you might have the same opinions.

Classic strawman argument tactics: I decide what is excessive, I decide what is insane, then I use that to say you are a hater.

You said the succession plan was Jimmy Garoppolo but Brady played far outplayed it. So Bill wasn't able to properly assess/predict Brady's skills at that time. You also said Bill didn't think Brady would walk. He misevaluated again. Then you said he tried again with Stidham and others and they weren't good enough. So another misfire from Bill when it comes to quarterback. Then you said he got a shot with Mac Jones which obviously failed. So once again, Bill misevaluated the position.

So yes, you did say those things.

In all of my 39-years on this planet, i've never seen anything sadder than a grown man spending his free time by writing thousands of posts fervently, religiously defending a 73-year millionaire that has never heard of him and will never hear of him.

You have limited time that you've been blessed with in this life, go spend it with your family, your friends, your hobbies, hell, put some music on and go take a walk, it'll do you a lot more good instead of waging a mindless crusade to save the honor of someone who doesn't know you from Adam.

I'm not writing this out of spite, on the contrary, out of empathy. You will gain nothing by continuing this crusade, only waste valuable time much better spent elsewhere. I doubt this post will change your mind, but i still felt i had to write it.

I saw this earlier (somewhat NSFW) and it made me think of the cult of BB:

Bill Haters. You guys like pretend your still fans and that all you were doing was saying he lost it but the last few days have shown your just Aholes.

At first I actually thought some of you weren't as bad as I thought but more of you have come out and none of it looks good on yous.
how can you possibly spin this as anything other than bill being selfish and petty?

Classic strawman argument tactics: I decide what is excessive, I decide what is insane, then I use that to say you are a hater.

So you see no hate and it's all just an imagination?

The emperor really has no clothes.

Bill cult and all the yes men he employs: He looks fantastic!
