Bill vs TCU game thread

Especially for the hype. This was supposed to be their "Deion Sanders" game. Everyone was checking this out and now I can't imagine they get much attention going forward. They'll be the ESPN talking heads ripping him for a week. But then the NFL season will start and UNC will be in the back mirror
It will only get mentioned it if it turns into a real circus and they lose one of these upcoming games against Charlotte or Richmond.

UNC is only a story if they're really good record wise or really bad, we already know they're not going to be good so now it's about can Bill scramble to 6 or 7 wins to stay off of ESPN discourse programming and still have something to sell for next year or is it 3/4 wins and we got the clown car going around and it's getting national coverage.

That dog rules. Put him back on the screen.

Bill is lucky Sonny Dykes showed class and just ran that game out, could of quite easily dropped a 50 burger on his head.

What, UNC isn't letting him wear sweatshirts with arms cutoff? HE HAS TO LOOK PROFESSIONAL? LIKE MOST OTHER PEOPLE (especially when on tv) ON THE PLANET? I wonder how many winning seasons it will take before they let him slob it up...

You'd think Forehead would make him do something about his moobs....ok now that I've had my fun, I hope they win and do well this year (in a non ball washing way)....

Good news for Belichick is that it can only get better.

Realistically talent matters more than scheme in college. It was always a questionable fit
Which is why BB shouldn't coach at can college. His scheme is so ridged and based on everything being executed just so to gain relative small but predictable advantages. BB has always been a control freak, and the idea of lining up in a simple formation, drilling it over and over again until your guys do it really well, then giving the ball to your best player and saying 'make it happen' seems offensive to him. But that is most of college and some of what the NFL has turned into.

A thrashing! The athletic disparity between some college teams is way too much for even the GOAT coaches to overcome.

BB got punched right in the mouth with the disparity of talent at the college level. It's obvious he's underestimated how hard that is to overcome.

By the numbers: Why Bill Belichick's UNC debut was a disaster for the ages at North Carolina

Some tidbits:

"However, the final score doesn't do justice to just how devastating a performance Belichick's debut in Chapel Hill really was for the team. Here are key stats that help contextualize just how depressingly they performed.

- Bill Belichick allowed the most points in a game of his career as a head coach, moving past a 47-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills in 2021.
  • - Belichick suffered the second-worst loss of his career, trailing only a 38-3 loss to the Cowboys in 2023.
  • - Belichick has trailed by 34+ points only four times in 511 games as a head coach. "
"Making matters worse, North Carolina still has No. 4 Clemson on the schedule on Oct. 4, which also comes in Chapel Hill. If the TCU matchup was any indication, the records could get even worse in a few weeks.

-North Carolina allowed the most points in a season opener in program history, surpassing the 41 allowed against 2001 Oklahoma.
  • -The Tar Heels lost by their greatest margin since Sept. 27, 2018 against Miami.
  • -Mack Brown never lost a game by that margin in his second stint at North Carolina. "

For me this was going to be the interesting question. Could Belichick overcome superior athletic talent with his strategic abilities? Based upon the early return the answer appears to be no, but there’s still a long way to go. The next question is going to be whether he has the energy or desire to work the way he did during the dynasty to overcome the disparities, and with Bunny in his life that may no longer be the case. He’s not going anywhere, but after Clemson destroys them in a month the calls for his head will be deafening.

First year, first game, tough opponent. An ugly start for sure. But it’s one game.

If I were an NC fan, I wouldn’t panic. Now BB knows what he’s has and has and doesn’t have. He has tape on his own team against much better talent. He can watch that and get a read on what he can fix.

If you’re happy because BB screwed the pooch at the end of his tenure in NE, then I get it. But if you’re happy because think he can’t coach, think again. Even the greatest coaches had bad losses.

BB got problems.

It doesn't look like UNC will beat Virginia, Syracuse or Clemson. @ California wont be a picnic and Wake Forest Is more than decent.

A Duke loss would be catastrophic.

The answer is no. The gap in college is way too big between schools. In the NFL everyone, even the "bad players" would be 99th percentile guys in college. Also you CONSTANTLY have to recruit. Your seniors leave every year, guys who have a shot at the NFL are likely to declare a year early.

This was actually pretty close to a worst case scenario. UNC was never going to have more eyeballs on it tonight, a primetime game on Labor Day, a stadium filled with stars, all that hype. Every potential five star recruit for next season was checking this out to see if there was anything to the Bill Belichick experiment at UNC. They watched a ****show instead where the team was outplayed in every conceivable way. All those players were skeptical of considering it already, now they are going to forget about it and focus on the big dogs.

I think we are a little like the proverbial frog in the pan of water. We got used over time to Bill's weirdness, felt no need really to take critical notice since he could, we felt, still be trusted to win football games. We held on to this presumption long after it was clear he no longer could.

Over the past few years, and certainly recently, things have only gotten more deeply weird - more clueless, even shameless. First the blinding arrogance and vindictiveness, the family-and-pals-only staffing decisions, then the loss of his team-building skills, then the bargain-basement glamour girl.

The "airplane" pic? C'mon.

This is now simply sad, verging on tragic. It's embarrassing. Somebody who cares about him needs to take him in hand and get him on track to a respectable retirement. It's over.

This is feeling like a blowout
You called it first.

I haven't followed this much, did BB's hiring help UNC recruiting/incoming transfers?
I believe last night they stated he brought in 70 players through the transfer portal.

One things started going south last night Bunny was probably googling how much Roy Williams is worth.
