Wow, I wasn’t expecting this, I guess they really couldn’t work out a contract.

I can’t believe that the Cowboys didn’t insist on a younger defensive starter. Two late 1s and soon-to-be 30-year-old (pro bowl) DT is a less impressive hall than I expected.

I’m curious what both fan bases think of the deal.

Wow. Wtf?! That is a heavy amount of dough for a guy with a bum back…muahaha. Damn.
He's 26, he has been an all pro 3 of the last 4 years, he's been a pro bowl all 4. Even missing a few games this year, his tackle and sack rates were very high. This is the exact kind of player you splurge on if you feel you need a dynamic piece for a few years.

2 first rounders and $40mil per? Love the player, but mid 20s with a new injury for a guy who’s going to eventually be a pass rush specialist alone

Dallas won this hard
No they didn't. Dallas' just paid a QB who is 32 years old a **** ton of money and Micah was the supposed to be the centerpiece of their defense. They are in what they consider their window with a franchise QB right now and just took a step backwards and are in a division with SB champion.

They aren't playing a "who gained the most incremental value longterm" situation. They are playing a "we need to win a SB in the next 3-4 years before the most important position becomes a mystery and they are a further away today.

This would be like us in 2014 trading Gronk for a haul. Yeah, theoretically it sounds AMAZING that we traded a guy who hit his mid 20's and has some injury question marks (Gronk has significantly more than Parsons) and might get a ton of draft capital. But the reality is that we were in a window and trading the best player on the team who makes a difference besides the QB that can break games would never be anything but a huge loss to us that would change a lot of the math on our fortunes.

It's Maye's rookie window shouldn't we be over extending ourselves to take advantage? Or is that not vogue anymore?
No because there's too many question marks right now. We don't even know if Maye is the guy yet. Hopefully he is, but we don't want to act like he is then in two years be saying "**** we need a QB and we don't have a first round pick to draft one because we traded him".

The Pats are still in a rebuild phase where evaluations have to be made before they act like we are in a window.

I know Jerry is getting some **** but 2 1sts might have been the best he could do. Keep in mind GB is shelling out a ton for Parsons so that'll drive down the comp.

In theory GB is a SB contender now and Dallas has cap relief and draft picks.

Where Jerry f-ed up was paying Dak which hamstrung him to pay Parsons.

I just really like Micah so I think it would have been worth it.

I never fully bought into the rookie window thing so that was a bit of a red herring. But if you were to adhere to that philosophy you kind of have to act without fully knowing otherwise the window passes pretty quick.

The issue is Jerry should NEVER have put himself in this position. He did the dumb thing he always did, a player finally called his bluff and stuck to his guns, and now he had limited options.

Theoretically if after last year we were all in on Maye and he seemed like a for sure franchise QB, we would have considered this move.

Gotta disagree here, just based on timing. First reports that Jones wanted to do a 5 year deal, then the sudden trade soon after

It feels like Jerry wanted to get rid of him to the first "decent" deal. If he kept him into the season, a good team might have come knocking with a better haul.

Jerry's ego would not let him the patient one
