Indeed, and we can say the same about TV news channels. The lowest common denominator approach of hours of unintelligent ***** fests rule the air waves these days.

The best I can do these days is find podcasts such as Chris Price with Chris Hogan, and Greg Bedard. Unfortunately not hours per day of coverage, but at least I keep my sanity and my podcast app has content from my other interests/hobbies to fill the rest of the time.

Even Tom Curran often goes with the fellowship of the miserable approach. He's really good when he reports on what he is seeing on the field, he really sucks when he tries to emulate Felger and Mazz. He seems to want to be everything to everyone, a serious sports journalist while also being able to roll in the mud, and he doesn't pull it off well at all. In pro wrestling and in sports talk a heel is a heel, you gotta lean into your part or it just doesn't work. So, I used to listen to Curran's podcast but don't bother any more.
Yea these days I get a lot more good info out of Phill Perry than Curran.

Curran is like a old, comfortable sandal that has some annoying rips and is wearing out. You still wear it but it's time for a new pair.

Funny.

I use to like Perry. I guess I still do but he too is starting to boarder on “his takes” over actual reporting. It’s not terrible yet, but I have noticed it starting.

For me it's more like being hungry and sitting down for a big meal at a nice restaurant, then half way through you find a dead fly in the salad and totally lose your appetite, and decide you're never going back to that restaurant.

I mean if I want McDonalds, I go to McDonalds. No fair setting up a fancy restaurant only to serve McNuggets.

Yep. I've noticed Perry branching out to more commentary/editorializing/hot-taking. In general i'm ok with it as long as it doesn't go too far over the top.

I used to like their show. Of course, I only got bits and pieces while at work for the first 3 hours of it.

In May, I had heart attack. In late June, I had triple bypass surgery. Needless to say, I’ve not worked since the heart attack and am basically desperate for entertainment to fill my day. After a couple of months of watching all 4 hours of the show, I can no longer stand to watch it for even a few minutes.

Those people are pathologically negative and critical people. It’s constant. If there’s a negative or conspiratorial spin to discuss a story, they’ll find it or make one up otherwise.

Sorry to hear about your health issues, hope you have a full recovery. As for ******* and asswipe, ******* simply looks for something fans like, and then ****s all over it, while Asswipe nods along, and affirms everything ******* says. This really pisses fans off, so they bite the clickbait and drive their ratings up. They are beyond useless.

I the wheelchair man back yet?? You know how we gett off on him.

Best wishes for a complete recovery.

(By the way, someone to whom I am very close and who loves her Pats, listens to Patriots Unfiltered. Worth a try?)

The whole Felger and Mazz discussion always intrigues me. They are to Boston sports what the WWE is to wrestling. Sure, they’re technically talking sports, but it is mainly entertainment. Manufactured drama and nonsense, but I at least usually find them entertaining. They flat out tell you that some (most) of what they say are just takes for the show, and one of the things Felger says on a daily basis is "We have a show to do today," which basically means he knows he is throwing out a hot take and that there is a good chance he is wrong, but they have to entertain people in that moment.

I honestly think Felger could name about 5 current Patriots right now off the top of his head. I like the show because I don't listen for insight or analysis; I listen to be entertained and have something on in the background of my workday. My only real critique is how little any of them contradict Felger. Jim Murray will on occasion, but Mazz almost never does, but on the rare instance it happens, it makes for some of their best radio.

Genuinely curious :

If a recently poorly performing team like NE has no room for Epps, while PHI - one of the deepest teams in recent seasons - does have room for the player, what am I missing ?

I do not believe for one second it’s about “fit”. Good teams / coaches will always find a role for players who can contribute.

Epps should be submitting his ring size here soon. From last place to SB Champs. Wow.

NE is a team that knows it is not where PHL is.

NE is trying to be where PHL is now two years from now.

NE wants a guy who is on his way up now and will be peaking two years from now.

PHL is already up and wants a guy who can do his job and add stability, and doesn't care that he has no more upside left.

NE is all about the upside.

PS: Two years is an optimistic point of view, it's probably three or more.

Woodson beat him out.

Epps looked bad in the preseason games (IMHO).

Agree 100% and I already raised the wrestling angle.

Basically Felger and Mazz are the heels putting themselves out there to trigger the fans.

Personally I never did watch WWE and don't listen to Felger and Mazz, but do understand why their formula works.

Just like WWE, they are getting rich off of understanding how easy it is to trigger people and play to their emotions.

As CT native PT Barnum famously said, there's a fool born every minute.
