If Marcus is CB4 who is CB3? I have him behind Gonzo and Davis. Who am I missing?

That means I’ve got Austin, Battle, Bolden, and James (not necessarily in that order) as CB4-5-6-7. Our CB depth is not terrible.
You're not missing anything. Just more Marcus Jones libel.

I have Austin as 3rd... I think he took that spot this camp, could be wrong. in either case good CB depth. How many teams have a 5th guy they are okay putting on the field?

You're wrong
I think it will depend on the matchup. Maybe it’s Jones one week…then Austin the next. Jones is the proven CB3 but it would be foolish to let him get bullied by someone 5 inches taller and 20-30 lbs heavier.

I wonder if Al and Kirk get paid extra for calling a game like last night's.
Al has been tough to listen to going on many years now. It doesn’t help he gets the worst of the worst games, yet gets paid a ton. At this point, he’s just there to keep cashing those checks.

You beat me to it and that’s what Pats analysts have been saying as well.

Vrabel’s press conference:

- Peppers out there because he wanted to see he and Woodson playing together at safety
- White out there because he told White there were things he wants to see White work on.
- disappointed with execution tonight, but thought they had good practices this week
- short week (Saturday to Thursday) combined with good practices led to decision to not play starters
- wants to know “who the rats are” that are letting people know about IR status of Polk.…
I think this game was a bit of a wake up call.

We got blown out by a Giants team that finished 3-14 last season.

I know there's some reason for optimism but we're not that good yet.

The team needs to improve week by week. There will be lumps along the way.

I'm looking forward to the Raiders game. The first game will be a good measuring stick to see how far we have come.

I stopped by to comment on the game but did not see a thread so I'll post this. (BTW if I just missed it somehow, just feel free to fold this into it.

1. Pretty much a horrible showing if the intention was to show something. It wasn't. I watched the DLine very closely the entire first half and there wasn't a single blitz, stunt or stem. There wasn't ever a time a DLman hit a gap. It was straight up, outside shoulder contact all night long. These guys made vanilla look exciting. Mike wasn't showing the Raider a THING.

Same for the offense. I think there were 3 different running plays. A draw, which they ran the most, an off tackle play, and wham play they ran a few times. Again zero imagination. No hurry up, nothing but the simplest routes. I rarely saw crossing receivers, etc.

The offense wasn't pretty in any area, and we desperately need to add a 3rd QB to the PS. In fact how many of you said to yourself while you watched, "boy, Jamis Winston would look pretty good right now as a back up QB, and the later added, " gees, so would Tommy Divito"
The Giants have to cut one so...

The offense also desperately need a different set of FB prospects and a 3rd TE blocking TE. There was a guy who was here after some injuries a year or two ago who did a great job filling in. He was big, strong and caught the ball better than anyone thought. We didn't resign him last year and he played elsewhere. I can't remember his name. There has to be someone available who would be better than the 2 kids we have trotted out there tonight. Did our binky UDFA CJ Cribble even play?

I thought Mapu played pretty well, at least in the first half when I was paying attention. I though most of the 2nd string LB's played well.

I don't want Woolridge back even on the PS. Basically, its his throwing motion. He has a 3/4s motion that is too easily blocked as we saw so often tonight. We can do better on cut down day for the PS.

For at least the first half, Ponder, Swinson, and Farmer pushed the pocket. They didn't provide constant pressure but they had their moments and earned their slots, imo.

Dart looked great. I didn't see a single pass that wasn't on target. I can see why Giants fans are excited about this kid. But it remains to see how he reacts when teams do scheme for him and disguise their looks. And remember the kid is almost 3 years OLDER than Maye before he takes his first real NFL snap. But bottom line the Giants completely turned around their entire QB room in a single off season and did a great job of it.

Though I didn't look closely, the few times I checked on Abdul Carter, I wasn't wowed. He's quick, but he was a one trick pony from what I saw and not that effective. Though if used effectively with Burns, Thibideau and Dexter Lawrence they will be a handful to defend.

The Giants have been very patient with their HC. He seems to have some pieces to make a quick turnaround and save his job, but he's in a tough division where every game will be a war.

The negative nellies will have a field day with this result, but its a nothing burger for me. They answered some questions about the bottom of the roster and seemed to get out healthy. I think we will see about 3 new faces making this roster and it will be interesting to see what trades they make or try to make. A lot that will be going around the league this week

Feel free to comment on my thoughts or add your own.
No injuries is the biggest thing. I think that's why most of the starters got rested against the Giants. In any case this is a remind that the Patriots are still rebuilding. We got blown out by a 3-14 Giants team. They need to take every week seriously because it is hard to win in the NFL.

I don't think our defense will be as bad as it showed against the Giants. Hopefully we show a much better gameplan against the Raiders.

Mainly I am hoping for a very solid OL performance against the Raiders. If they can protect Maye and open up running lanes we should be able to score points and make it a competitive game.

After reviewing the game film, the Barcelona Diablos would like to acquire Sidy Sow as a back up matador. They were impressed with his ability to move out of the way of anything coming towards him.

What was the half-time score? 14-10?

Fussing about the first half of the last pre-season game is unreasonable. There are very, very limited goals for the team. Evaluating Sow and Borregales were certainly two of them. I suppose that showcasing Dugger was another.

Fussing about the last half is just plain silly.

BTW, give a special trophy to the giants for their 3-0 pre-season record! NOT!

What an awful game! I can't remember a worse Patriots quarterback since Andrew Walter.

It was hard to watch closely, but was I the only one that thought, along with all of the other failings by the Pats, the refs. seemed determined to give the Giants as many bad calls as they could?

One hilarious one was when the Gnats were complaining about not getting PI and the replay showed the receiver punching the Patriots cornerback in the helmet. But there seemed to be a lot of others too.

Vagiants WRs - and not just one or two either - were pushing off All Night Long. And with Impunity.

Was just going through the stat sheet (I'll have that uploaded in a bit) and noticed that Wooldridge never threw another pass after that pick-six. Literally had zero attempts in the 4th quarter, and they ran it 15 straight times:

Ben Wooldridge Passing Totals:

By Quarter:

  • Q1: 1/4 (25%) 4 yards
  • Q2: 8/12 (66.7%) 70 yards 1 TD
  • Q3: 1/4 (25%) 8 yards 1 INT
  • Q4: None
By Down:
  • 1st: 2/5 (40%) 19yds 1TD
  • 2nd: 4/7 (57.1%) 29yds 1 INT
  • 3rd: *4/8 (50%) 34 yards
    *3 Passing First Downs

Hard not to wonder the reason. He did close out the first half with a 14 play, 80yd touchdown drive (where he made a terrific throw to Jeremiah Webb), so it's not like he was so horrible they needed to shut him down. But three possessions and just four pass attempts later, that was it. And on a night where they're still evaluating receivers (and the score didn't matter), to not have him throw again was certainly sort of an interesting decision.

Punishment before evaluation. Sounds familiar.

I’m surprised he’s still here, I thought after the draft they would’ve let him go.

That's what we were told by some here... Didn't believe it then either.

Don't know how many; because we don't.

I really hope that Jeremiah Webb and Jon Jiles make it back to the PS. I don't see Baker on our PS, the rest of the PS should be mostly OL. Saying that in jest but the OL makes the machine go.

He was cut.

Evaluation was all done.
My evaluation was done after Q1 and I am not a NFL professional that watched all of training camp. This was not a hard evaluation.
