Our only hope is if Javon Baker; can catch a real pass against a decent NFL CB in a real game. Still waiting.

Releasing Onwenu after this year is a 7.5 mil cap hit. Yes, it's a savings of 17.5 overall, but that's a ton of money to pay for someone who's not here.

What a terrible contract. A true Wolf special. He's completely uncuttable and untradeable this year, btw. 27 million dead cap.
You take the 7.5m dead money cap hit if you don’t think he’s worth an additional $17.5m in new money next year. Wow, I can’t believe that’s how much his base and incentives are next year, he’d have to play like Thuney in his prime this season to come back at that price next year.

Get off the ledge Toof: Diggs contract will be a bargain two years from now. He'll put up 1000yds this year if healthy.
I donno. Something tells me pop will significantly outperform diggs and chism will be a sleeper wr who racks 500+ yards. Diggs might be effective and hit 600-700 yards. But nobody is gonna pay 22 million for that .

Let's see.. I think it's more circumstances based.

What do you think good TE's make these days?
Why will Diggs not be here?
My hunch ... I think pop and Boutte might be on par with diggs from performance and stats standpoint and towards end of season Williams and chism will start to get more touches and receptions.

Running game might be a huge driver and henderson would be a superstar .

That means lesser targets and receptions for Henry and diggs. I am not sure if the pats will feel they are worth the 23 million and 11 + million next year. Might restructure them and onwenu I guess .

Pop has a contract year next year and if he stacks more than 1000 yards this season they might end up paying him and diggs will get impacted because of that.

As for Henry ,, I feel his stats will significantly go down this year to 300 yards or something to that effect. Mack hollins might get more tough downs so Henry stats will be less there as well. 300 yards and 4 TD will not get a 15 million $ contract next year .

I could be way off on all these . I will take the flak for it if I go wrong . But for now this is my position.

Henry is 11 million or something against cap next year. No way Henry and hooper make team next year unless they take a big pay cut.

I am thinking diggs might also not be here.
Huh?
Cutting Henry next year COSTS 200k of cap space.
He is the 17th highest paid TE. He is not overpaid.

Hooper is not under contract next year so he couldn’t take a paycut.
He is a one year contract guy at a mid level price up until he is no longer useful or replaced.

Baker had started to turn things around in TC.....then came his brilliant performances in both games. Starting to look like he'll be joining Polk on the firing squad

Career per 17 games.
Diggs 147 targets 101 catches 1239 yards 8 TDs
Henry 82 56 647 6

Douglass 91 63 648 2
Boutte. 64 38 517 3

These players aren’t who you think they are, in fact it’s pretty much backwards. The guys who average a combined 101/1165/5 per 17 games aren’t taking the ball away from the guts averaging 157/1886/14

And the guy you think Douglass and Boutte make useless has produced more than both of them combined.

Also Hollins 41 25 314 2

I also think Pop is going to up his game with Josh and year 2 of Drake.

And I'm also a little unsure of Diggs. Last year Nico was their WR1 and then Diggs hurt his knee. I think he's shown enough in his rehab and in camp that we aren't looking at a Chad Johnson type year but I also think it's a lot to expect him to be WR1 here.

I think between him and Pop we'll get enough out of our top 2 guys.

After that I don't even know who will wind up WR3. It seemed like Boutte was headed for it but Hollins seems to be making a strong push too because of his start on the PUP it happened quickly but right now I give him the slight edge. That is of course if Chism hasn't just passed them both I've taken my time not to over hype him but I'm finally fully on board and he's more than clearly made it but I'm not sure if he's WR3 yet. I don't think Williams has done enough to be here yet but he's shown enough to be excited about and I could see him getting in this mix as the year goes on and hopefully when he gets his chance he's ready to blow up.

To steal from Bill we'll need a little extended pre-season to fully sort this one out over the next few weeks.

The Pats can really roll the dice on Baker making the PS with his current numbers.

As much **** as Wolf gets for the Mayo draft, I think the contracts he gave to Duggar, Stevenson and Onwenu are equally deserving of scorn. At least Mayo was right about one thing. They burned the cash.
I'm not inclined to give Mayo/Wolf as much grief over those as some people here. In particular, one of the main complaints we fans had, and, IMO, a factor in Belichick's end here was that he would consistently let talented players walk (e.g., letting Thuney go for nothing for a contract they definitely could've afforded). Especially given that almost no one wanted to come to Foxboro in FA last year, I don't blame them for those contracts.

Oh yeah, you're right about the reasons, but to me, it felt like they swung too far in the other direction because they wanted to be not like Bill.

Lol what are you even talking about? The $60 million we have this year carries over to next year and we have no idea what next year's cap is. Your numbers are way off too.

Spotrac
Dugger - Cut: $1,014,706; Trade: $10,764,706
Bourne - Cut: $6,300,000; Trade:$ 6,300,000
Strange - Cut: $0; Trade: $2,376,269
Bradbury - Cut: $4,700,000; Trade: $4,700,000
Jennings - Cut: $2,955,882; Trade: $4,305,882

If we cannot trade Dugger, the value in his cut will be next year at $12.5 million. They will be tempted to keep him if there is no trade partner and an injury pops up this week. I think Bourne is gone, but we don't know his knee status. He may be IR, which would mean we keep his salary. Depending on the severity, a cut could mean an injury settlement. I think Strange is gone. Cutting Bradbury makes no sense. They just signed him and he is at least serviceable when healthy. Jennings just had a great game, but we will see his status this week. It is ludicrous to move on from Hunter Henry. That would leave one TE (Hooper) and one FB (Westover). Bell is not making this team.

I am skeptical we can open $20 million with your suggestions. The key is trading Dugger.
Oh i should have specified i was talking about making cuts both this and next year. Bourne and Strange this year, the others next year. I didn't mention the carry over cause i just don't know how much we will use this year for emergency or 1 year contracts. I'm sure some will be left.. but i have no idea on the actual number. Plus they will need to use it on odds and ends. re-upping players (the are probably signing Hooper, Hawkins, Tonga and others again... Plus new typical odds and ends which will eat into it. So i didn't want to assume we will have this massive amount of unused rollover. Plus i think they will want to do Gonzo early as long as he stays healthy, that will be big. I'm sure they will have some but i don't know how much.

I agree. And they just had the best draft they have had in years using the evaluation and grading system Wolf installed. People here aren’t going to stop ****ting on him, but it’s clear from both Vrabel and Cowden that they respect Wolf. Give him credit for their offseason success, and like working with him, and that’s all that matters.

Jesus Baker because he can make people in wheel….

We will still be near the top of the league in salary cap space.
