Bruh, you're not giving up a 24 year old on his rookie contract for a 31 year old. Dugger, sure, if there's no place for him. Jennings also makes sense.
I’d do Dugger and Jennings and a fifth for Hendrickson in the blink of an eye.

Why would you do that with White? If there is a coach who can get the most out of him, it is Vrabel. White is only in his 3rd year and we don't know what he is yet. Last season was not his fault.
I’d do it with White because so far he’s underperformed here. At the start of camp he was being used to challenge Campbell like he was some outstanding player, and then he vanished once Campbell showed the ability to handle him and we haven’t heard anything more about him since then. His body of work in years past has not been very special either, at best occasional flashes scattered inconsistently.

Swapping White for Hendrickson would be swapping an established elite performer (Hendrickson) for an inconsistent youngster (White).

If White played to his potential it wouldn’t be a great deal, but if he continues to play true to the form he’s established since he was drafted it would be.

So far he’s shown nothing to give confidence he will improve his performance and consistency.

You have to consider what it would cost to sign Hendrickson to a long term contract.

Hendrickson is due to make $16 million this year. The Bengals, we’ve heard, have offered roughly $28 million per year. Whatever the amount (and, as importantly, the structure), he wants more.

A team coming off a 4-13 season is not one that should be looking to sign 31-year players to this type of contract.
That kind of deal is for genuine super bowl contenders that went to the playoffs the previous season.

If the Patriots are to trade for a player, it should be an offensive lineman.
Stop making sense, wouldja? Lol I want the shiny DT...

Hendrickson, Williams, Barmore and Landry and you say No. The Pats have to explore it.
Draft the next Hendrickson.

All these guy like Mclaurin and Hendrickson want too much money, but some sucker team like the Browns will bite. Everyone will ooh and ah at their fantasy line up as they win 7 games.

This is silly. He had a solid rookie season and showed a lot of progress. In year 2, he had a bunch of idiots as a coaching staff and was very vocal that he was not getting the coaching that he needed. Last season was a total loss for him and it was not his fault. Did you consider that we have not heard much from him lately because of 2 things. 1) Will Campbell is learning and improving. 2) Campbell is so familiar with White that its much easier for him to diagnose what White is going to do. You can't blame White for not playing to his potential. Let Vrabel bring it out this year. If its still just a bunch of flashes, they trade him next year. Its too early. In Henrickson, you get a 30 year old who will want $100 million and we need to give up signifigant draft capital. He is not the key that is putting this team over the top. When we finally peak, he will be in decline. We have to try to make the money work when we are peaking.

We know White is not Hendrickson and we don't want to give up a high draft pick. White somewhat fills the hole Hendrickson leaves behind and reduces the need for a high draft pick to be included.
This is my point too. White's poor season last year is on coaches who were fools. Let Vrabel develop White.

A first isn’t even in the mind’s stratosphere

They should pursue it to some extent. Our outside pass rush isn't very good. Landry got sack total last year really by virtue of playing a ton of snaps and being a schemed up pressures guy. Doesn't have much one on one win juice at this point of his career unless he turns the clock back. White is a heavy power rusher on the edge which forces him to push inside a ton and makes it hard for him to set the edge so always going to be a liability there IMO. Jennings is a run down only player. Chaisson is a specialist. On a down to down basis I don't think they're going to be able to generate tons of pressure off the edge without sacrificing by playing a specialist or dealing with mobile QBs abusing White's lack of containment.

This defense has solid overall talent, but lots of players and position groups overall with extreme strengths and weaknesses. Lots of guys where you say he's great at X but weak at Y and position groups as a whole you can say that for. Combined with the lack of "gotta gameplan for him" type of guys, and I think they're going to look one step behind against most of the better offenses (which with our schedule, fortunately won't show up week to week). A guy like Hendrickson would go a long way in helping that.

Still, gotta be realistic about where we are as a team and I'm just not sure we're in the give up draft capital and pay huge money to extend 30+ year old players kinda phase yet. So I'd only pursue to a limited extend and wouldn't expect to land him.

Run of the mill GM statements..

I'd do a 2nd plus Dugger simply because the Pats don't want to keep Dugger but he has significant dead money if he's cut. A trade away (even if the Pats re-do his deal first to eat a portion of the money) is in their favor.

I'd probably be higher on this idea if our pass rush was a complete catastrophe in slow motion, but we've got enough juice...well, enough to not spend draft capital and major actual capital on someone his age, talent notwithstanding.

EDIT - Would also consider if he was assessed as a missing piece toward a Super Bowl contender, but we're not at that point yet.

Credibility check: Didn’t McLaurin sign?
No.

Someone here started a thread stating McLaurin signed, but that has not happened.

Probably due to some bogus clickbait article.

The only news on him is that he was removed from the PUP list on the 16th.
