Now Safe

I’ve been skeptical, he seems to be showing he belongs, but I can’t comment reasonably until after I watch the game. I’m rooting for him, always have been.
I know you have. Definitely not a “I told you so” as there’s a long way to go. His short area burst and wiggle on the underneath routes just seemed evident to me from his college tape and in camp. Hopefully he can keep stacking days

Feeling like the run is over for Dugger unfortunately. I still think he has value to the team.. but it may be too late at this point. He likely was playing again today in the 4th quarter for other potential suitors in a trade potential.
In that case, we would need to trade for a safety. I suppose that we could have Pettus or Epps as our number 4. Yuch!

Cutting or trading Dugger would mean making a conscious decision to weaken the team. Neither Epps nor Pettus is a better choice.

Vrabel has said Duggar is still working back from his injury and working on things. May just need the reps.

Brown wasn’t good, he should never be starting. Easy to hide him among the ones but he still got turnstiled on a play and did little in the run game.

Strange, Wilson, Sow were the three interior starters with the second unit. All three are better than Brown. Brown is a practice squad player.

Thanks 6.. that's interesting. So should that be the case wich is a strong possibility because those ankle injuries can be long term things.

This ^ also…

Guy had three sacks and looked like a man amongst boys with the 2’s and 3’s.
Agreed. And he's playing amongst his talent level as he will be a back up, rotational guy. I believe he makes the team. He is still a top edge setter

Believe me I don't wish Dugger to be moved. As ring 6 brought up a interesting point as he could be working his way back from that ankle last season. I believe he came back during the season and re-aggrivated it last year. Epps isn't making the team he's done 0. Pettus will make it he plays on STs.

Just watched the whole game… my off the cuff recap.

The first team looked good but there can be improvements.

The O-Line was solid outside of Ben Brown getting turnstiled. Marcus Bryant looks like a starter at RT not a backup. Campbell and the rest had a clean game, opened some running lanes and pass blocked well. The second unit featured Strange at LG, Wilson at center (clearly not injured) and Sow at RG… all of these guys are making the team over Brown in a competition based grading system. The center in the second half of the game was Alex Lindstrom and he looked good, granted against the backend of their roster. Brown should be faded, Lindstrom deserves a better look.

Weapons… Henderson is a force, really fast, strong for his size, pass blocking is great. Efton Chism made the 53 today, if there was any doubt. Guy was a slot machine. Gibson ran well in the power role. Dobbs threw a duck and got Kyle Williams concussed, he might miss some time. Baker was up and down but he wasn’t helped by Dobbs, he was open and could have made more plays. He made a crucial tough third down catch later with Wooldridge. Hollins was starting with Diggs out.. he is clearly making the team.

Defensively they looked great, the Vikes starters were stuffed almost the whole game. Jennings had three sacks, there’s no reason he shouldn’t make this team. Chaisson is fast off the edge. Alex Austin is still a liability, he had back to back penalties. But the second half Miles Battle looked great, very first play was a tackle at or behind the line of scrimmage, he defended well, caught up to a return man who was taking a kickoff to the house to prevent a TD, also made a good punt coverage pinning them down inside the five. Battle deserves a look with the ones and twos. Austin needs fading.

Our punter is All Pro caliber, Borregales missed a long one by a lot but hit a chip shot later. The third preseason game should feature the back end of roster guys and determine some final roster spots.

Same here.. not sure if Marrone is just experiencing with him at LG but he's not a starter.. Wilson must be dealing with something is my guess.

Austin has been good all off season/minicamp. He's playing starter snaps due to gonzo being out He's a solid option outside and has great coverage.. he makes more plays then he gives up.. the guy that's becoming a liability in coverage is Marcus Jones.. I don't think he started did he?

DUGGER AND JENNINGS
Both of these players are head and shoulders better than anyone on the team who would take their roster spot on the 53.

You have a 14M player that played the last play of a preseason game.

Dugger shouldn’t make this team. he can’t cover, has no awareness whatsoever and he doesn’t seem to be able to pick this system up.

IMO, the following players are now safe (if there were any doubts)
Brown
Dugger
Hollins (always a starter as far as Josh is concerned)
Chism

Feel free to add you own questionable players to the list.
Dugger was in there at the very end of a preseason game in the 4th quarter. He should be on the phone with moving companies right now.

There might be extenuating circumstances for that, but that fact certainly means he's not "safe"
You could say they had him in there on the last play to do exactly what he did. Fine.
Why was he in the *entire* 4th quarter, and that was the only run he got? That's not directed at you, I'm just pre-emptively heading off the 'nuh-uh' folks.

You're not wrong but I did see some talk about him getting game time to help come back from injury. That's the extenuating circumstance I was talking about. Still, running with the 3s is not a good look no matter the circumstance.
