The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

We don't need to rely on stories from Ohio to know how poorly Bill treated the media. We have 20 years of seeing it with our own eyes right here in NE.

He's a smart enough man to be able to give respectable answers to questions from people who were just trying to do their jobs, but he chose not to do that for some reason.

Yes, he very seldom gave the media anything, but I highly doubt he ever called that woman up and berated her over the phone. That's a tall tale.

Appearing instead, to little surprise, will be Michael Lombardi, Belichick's consigliere. Lombardi will be the one either to loudly boast in the aftermath of a win, or to aggressively make plausible excuses if/when the Tar Heels end up in quicksand.

Apparently Bill would rather spend his time chasing the Bunny rather than promoting UNC Football and earning his $10M salary.

As for Lombardi, he knows where his many meals come from.

Quite the setup they have.

How much will Bill Belichick’s UNC football coaching staff be paid in 2025?

BB gets $10M
Lombardi gets $1.5M
BB's son Steve gets $1.2M
Lombardi's son Mike gets $600k

Taxpayers pump in $56M

All these ^ guys have NFL resumes and rings on their fingers… but you think they don’t deserve their salaries?

Keep the hate flowing…

You really think Steve Belichick and Mick Lombardi were the best coaches available and taken just based on their resume?

Keep the hate flowing…

Keep the denial flowing...

Those paychecks are mind-numbing. I always wonder what kind of lifestyles that enables. I'll bet none of them have seen the inside of a grocery store in years.

I listened to Lombardi's podcasts on different platforms over the year and enjoyed them. One thing that was always clear was that he was very interested in mentoring his sons and guiding their careers. IMO I would not be surprised one bit if he made hiring his son a condition of taking the UNC gig. Clearly Bill used the last seasons in NE to get reps for his sons as coaches, no surprise it continues in UNC. IMO they view it as being good fathers. I view it as pure nepotism.

Bill has nothing to do with my opinion about local media.

Fans didn’t ask dumb questions, bildo reporters did. Many of them were “gotcha” questions that they were asking simply for the annoyed response they’d receive… which in most cases was their intention.

As a fan, I didn’t want the coaches revealing sensitive information that could give an opponent any advantage on gameday… you just weren’t cognizant enough to recognize the difference.
Mike Vrabel’s already busted Ben Volin’s chops for asking a question he had just answered for someone else.

I bumped into Bill once at the register of the gas station right on the corner just north of the stadium. He even tried to let me go first but I insisted he was probably a little busier than me.

Vrabel's son is an assistant on the OL.

Steve had top ranked defenses as a coordinator. Mick worked for the Raiders, not Bill.

Nepotism is common in every business and endeavor in life. It’s only unwarranted when it’s an abject failure, not an overwhelming success. According to you Shanahan doesn’t deserve to be coaching the 49ers right?

You haters work really hard to keep this thread alive…

I don't have a link but he said it himself. Something about nice having him around it surprised me because it was the first I heard of it.

Mick has worked for Bill before, twice.

What I wrote was "Quite the setup they have" and then posted FACTS about what BB and staff were being paid and what the NC taxpayers were paying into UNC Athletics.

If you were so much against this thread being alive you could have just admitted they do have quite a setup going and moved on, but, nope.

The definition of nepotism is "the practice among those with power or influence of favoring relatives, friends, or associates, especially by giving them jobs". There's no doubt this is nepotism.

Whether or not that's a good thing is up to the reader. You having to put words into my mouth to try to make a point just shows you have nothing.

If you want to come out in support of nepotism, go ahead. Maybe start with the huuuuge success that is the Trump Organization.

You complain about keeping the thread alive, but then go out of your way to do so. It figures.

More proof of what I just wrote, you have nothing.

Mike Vrabel’s already busted Ben Volin’s chops for asking a question he had just answered for someone else.

I love the way Vrabel handles the media. If they ask a good question he answers it, if they say something stupid he makes them wish they didn’t. He’s setting up the parameters for good press conferences because they know that if they ask stupid or redundant questions he will torch them, so expect much better questions at his press conferences.

With Belichick it didn’t matter if it was a good question or not, although he welcomed any chance to talk football history, he just hated talking to the press and made that clear at his pressers. Some of it was brilliant, e.g… “ we’re on to Cincinnati,” and some of it was just his foul mood stinking up the room. And ultimately I think the press just didn’t care anymore because they were tired of dealing with him.

I didn’t bother with Belichick’s press conferences after his first few years because they were tiresome, I think Vrabel’s will be must see tv. When you watch Vrabel’s teammates talk about him their reverence for his wit and intelligence is clear. Even Matt Light talked about how Vrabel was simply not the guy you wanted to get into a verbal sparring match with, and how hard Vrabel busted Brady’s balls in practice every day, which imo was just another factor Brady ended up using to his benefit, because if he could handle Vrabel’s trash talk he could handle any opponent’s trash talk.

They got lazy with Mayo last year.

Clearly you must think we have a problem here because Vrabel filled out his staff with friends and former cronies.

Vrabel might clap back at the media once in a while but there’s a reason why he doesn’t have the reputation of being an ass and BB does. Even Marv Levy’s wife despises BB and that’s for a reason.
