Total Players: 52

53rd player is either Baker - WR Riley - LB or Tavai - LB... Probably Baker or Riley.

(Going from bottom up)

I feel pretty good about this 52... considering their injury potential in the secondary and the lack of a likely worthy return i don't see them trading Dugger this year. Nor do I see a 10th DB worth carrying. Pettus is the 10th due to his STs and that he wouldn't be totally lost out there i think.

I think they for sure keep one of Mapu Tavai if not both. I think Mapu is ahead and can do that tweener role well potentially.

At DT no surprises. Pharms i think is a guy they should carry still.

On Edge they go a bit heavy. I've toyed with the idea of Swinson making the PS... it is possible... but i don't think it is likely. He hasn't shown what we've hoped. But he has had enough flashes to give him a red shirt year. Ponder is coming on well now and i don't want to risk him either. So much potential.

On the OL Jacobs has shown some improvement over last year. Still not someone you want to see in meaningful action... but roster worthy probably. On G... I guess Tyrese is ahead... no one is a good option here... They have some work to do at this spot imo. Brown is the best interior back up option, and that says a lot, mostly bad.

I think right now these 6 are locks at WR. Baker making a good case for a 7th.

Westover plays a bit of everything.. TE. FB and STs.

RB is a spot we need to do some work on when it is WW time. Try to find a good emergency guy.

Dobbs is still the back up... he is known to be very streaky. If he has to play, just hope he is having a good day.
Tyrese Robinson is a bold move

A well thought out, great list, just what we have come to expect from you BobDigital

I agree that we need a fourth RB. Henderson looks awesome but he might be more effective in rotation with a bigger back, with our improve OL (especially for the run) I hope for a big year from Stevenson but if he is injured we will be up the creek with only Gibson as a backup. I would have felt completely comfortable with Lan Larison as a fourth, but c'est la vie

My question is: do you think someone suitable will be available on WW, or is it worth sending a 6th or 7th to some team for a reliable backup RB that we can trust in a pinch?
I don't think it is worth sending a pick for. RBs who can pitch in for decent limited action aren't rare. I'm sure something will shake loose. If we need to send it pick we can do it after an injury happens and we know we need a longer term option.
I've given up on Mapu. Not eager to trade Jennings.

Ben Brown, Tyrese Robinson, Demontrey Jacobs, Brady Swinson, Marte Mapu and maybe Dell Pettus are candidates for making room for new players at cutdown date. Keep Jennings and Maybe Dugger. Not big on Dobbs but kind of stuck with him now. Forgot about Tavai. add him to the list.

Well Ben Brown kind of sucks, but he's the best interior option we have for a backup. So we really need 2 guys there... Same for Robinson... hopefully we do something about them. Neither is truly roster worthy, but we need to carry someone. I still am holding out hope Vrabel accepts they need to add a guy to this group before it is too late. I like what he has done on this team for a lot of things, but i think they are making a mistake here. I am all for cutting one at cut downs if someone is worth picking up... Both? unlikely. They go into the regular season with 3 IOL who know the system and have worked together and 2 others they are trying to get with the program? They should be keeping at least one for sure. But i certainly won't miss either. They should both be upgraded sooner rather than later.

Jacobs is for now solidly on this team imo. Not that he is amazing or anything... but he has earned the right to be a 4th OT on an NFL roster... Not an ideal 4th... but a 4th worth having.

Swinson has been a disappointment, but he has talent and has flashed. I think that is enough to not risk him. His upside is intriguing.

Mapu showed well at LB in the preseason. Its a position he is better suited for in this D. And while Dugger has played a little LB recently I think they like Mapu here more for his size and they really don't want to take depth away from the DBs. They are thin at LB and Mapu is a good emergency option and he plays STs.

Pettus i think is one of the most solidly on of all those listed. I think he is genuinely NFL roster worthy due to his STs and depth ability. Not unlike someone like Dial before he got hurt.

As for Jennings... he played so late into last preseason game. Makes one curious. Not that I'd hate if it they carried him.

But yeah I'm all for upgrading the roster some more. If it was my call i'd sign a decent back up guard yesterday. As for everything else... I'd let preseason game 2 play out before deciding.

Pettus i am
Tyrese Robinson is a bold move
Is it? Who makes more sense really? The only guy i am confident we don't carry right now is Strange. A lot of people still have him making the roster... why? He hasn't proven himself better than anyone else in this lack luster group. But he is the only one who cost 4M... everyone else is around 1M. Why pay 3M more for the same production? As for why Robinson over the others.... well... why not?

Frankly I don't think it matters. I have him making it only for now... I don't think he is long for this team... but they aren't going into the season with only Ben Brown as an interior back up. I am still hoping they pick up another option. There has to be someone out there better than our guys. As for why i went Tyrese... well honestly i thought he did okayish against back ups in the preseason game. And PFF liked him the most. That's it. At this reason it's as good as reason to pick him over the others i could name.

The reason I mentioned that was because IMO Leyden Robinson was the superior G of the two. I think his run blocking is very good where as his pass blocking not so good…kind of reminded me of Shaq Mason. Tyrese on the other hand was not so good at either. JMO.
