PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP Training Camp Day 13 - Sunday, August 10, 2025

Stop with Javon Baker please: he hasn't done nothing to make the team. Anybody can do what he's doing on ST's.
It seems the team thinks Baker has been doing things to make the team. They apparently don’t share your hate for him. Patriots.com is talking up Baker’s ST commitment in their latest Patriots Training Camp Notebook, plus giving him props for his work ethic:
He's also putting in extra work to master the offense. "My mindset going into camp was just honestly getting a good grasp on the offense," Baker said. "Every morning at eight o'clock, I meet with Coach Todd [Downing]. We go over where I'm gonna go and what plays we're gonna run. That's been huge for me."

As a reminder to people.. The Pats WR room to start 2009: Moss, Welker, Aiken, Tate, Galloway, Slater, Edelman.

They also carried 5 RB to start the season: Maroney, Faulk, Morris, BJGE, and Fred Taylor.

They only carried 2 TEs as Sammy Morris did a lot of lead blocking that year.
Slater doesn’t count as a WR.

I have knocked Baker plenty, but I’ll give him credit if he’s finally realized being a pro takes a whole different level of commitment than playing in college. I still think he’s going to end up on the practice squad, but if he’s willing to do that then he could find himself on the roster down the road. Injuries always happen, and it’s guys with some patience and dedication who ultimately get their opportunities, not the guys who believe they made it the moment their name was called.

Yeah that's Schooler on this team so that makes a case for an extra safety which is also a deep group this year.

Further to the point if we go 7 WRs one of them would need to contribute mightily too and I don't see a WR who contributes that much to STs and obviously not as good as Slater.

Baker's turnaround has been one of the coolest things in preseason.
2 months ago I thought no way in hell does he make this team.
Something switched the light on for him.
The intense competition at wr has brought out his best. He's probably PS but who thought that would happen back in June?

The contract isn't bad at all. It's the 11th highest contract for a started Safety. Dinging him because he played through an ankle injury is silly. Contrary to BOB, trading Dugger is a dead cap hit of 13.75M (remaining SB amortization and this year's workout bonus). The team getting Dugger would be responsible for his salary and game day bonuses for 2025-2027.

The response was to a poster who said Duggers was a bad draft pick.

Obviously you disagreed with that, like I did, if you thought the contract was fine.

My argument was that the contract proved Duggers wasn't a bad pick, and that the poster only problem was with the contract.

But if Dugger can't start year 2, and they need to take this sort of a cap hit, you can point out numbers/excuses all you want. It's not a great contract.

The only reason to keep Baker would be ST's. He had 12 yards receiving last year.

If Baker is not kept for ST's, we're down to 6. Five if Chism fades.

Don’t see Sidy Sow, didn’t see his name in any subsequent tweets. I wonder if he’s out there practicing?
Didn't take any snaps on Friday, so far as I could see.

It looks like it could be a rough year for my team.

One could argue that FS was the weakest spot on the team other than left tackle. Dugger isn't a FS, he's a SS, but the team needed some certainty at their safety spots, since they were weak there. Also, Peppers didn't sign his contract until several mon ths after Dugger, so they had one year left with them.

In context, Dugger's contract doesn't seem so bad. You have an older safety who may be hitting the road after the season, you have absolutely no one at FS, so you very well could be looking at a complete washout at the position. And you have all the cap room in the world.

And Dugger signed a season after having a breakout campaign.

It's only in retrospect that we could possibly look at it as a bad signing because of 3 or 4 factors:

1. He looked bad in Covington's defense. So did everyone else.
2. His injury contributed to subpar play.
3. Peppers signed and so we seem to have 2 guys who are starting caliber there.
4. We drafted what looks to be a starting FS.
