It’s going to be interesting to see how Chism and Restrepo get on in the NFL. Excellent slot skills and quickness but slow as molasses in a straight line. A good test of the slot WR skill set.
I think he had a bad day on his 40; he doesn't seem to be "slow as molasses" on the field.

In any case, Chism had 32 snaps against WAS. By my count, during the second and third quarters when he got most of his O snaps, the Pats had ~20 pass attempts. IOW, he was the target on 25% of his snaps and ~40% of pass attempts. That doesn't happen by accident.

Have to be good at special teams and force a team to roster them.

I am not sure he would have gotten the contract if he weren’t a high pick. He got paid on projection and lack of options. We finally have a few safeties who can cover.
He's a strong safety. When he was playing that position (2023) he was dynamic and making plays all over the field.

If we judge him by last year when every single member of the secondary looked lost, we're making a mistake. His competition is Peppers. We've been needing a guy like Hawkins or Woodson to take over for McCourty.

Last year's defensive design was a complete mess for our defensive backfield. The DC was clueless.

Clearly this is the only caliber of specimen that can reasonably play LT in the NFL. Anything less is camp fodder.
With Goro at LT, we wouldn’t need the other 4 lineman & Maye would still have all game to throw.

Then why is he struggling to make this team? He is by accounts behind a rookie 4th round pick.

Will be interesting to see where he lands.

He doesn't have enough toes. Everyone knows no LT drafted in NFL history has less than 8 toes. Goro would definitely be a bust

Who was the WR who had an excellent pre-season, became a forum favourite, but then got cut anyway? Just hoping the same doesn't happen to Efton.
Gunner Olszewski?

There have been many of them.

Duggers contract makes him hard to trade. How much do we have to eat? What do we get back? Also just cause he is ahead of Duggers in practice at times doesn't mean he is in game action. They have gone back and forth.

Duggers has 23M in dead cap. And after last year no one will want to pay him that much. So we get stuck with it. And what kind of pick do we even get? It isn't like his new contract will be cheap either... just not as bad. Maybe if we are lucky we eat 23M and get a 4th round pick.

So 4th round pick, eat 23M and lose a quality player. Or keep him. I think we keep him unless some team is willing to really extend something good. I don't think they will.

No. Dugger does NOT have 23M in dead cap for the Pats. . He would have only the remaining SB proration and this year's workout bonus. Which would total 13.75M.

Any team taking Dugger on would have a cap hit of 10.76M for 2025. They'd have just his salary and any game day bonuses in 2026 and 2027.

This wasn't a drafting error.

Duggers received a huge contract for a safety as a second round pick. He wasn't a bad pick.

The contract was what was bad.

The contract isn't bad at all. It's the 11th highest contract for a started Safety. Dinging him because he played through an ankle injury is silly. Contrary to BOB, trading Dugger is a dead cap hit of 13.75M (remaining SB amortization and this year's workout bonus). The team getting Dugger would be responsible for his salary and game day bonuses for 2025-2027.

IMO, a #3 punt returner and #3 slot receiver isn't worth a roster spot.

PUNT RETUNERS: Jones. Douglas
SLOT: Douglas, Diggs and others as needed

Big assumptions that DIGGS is going to be a "Slot Receiver".
Also assumption that Douglas will be the #2 Punt returner.

Furthermore, Marcus Jones has yet to play a full season.

A 4th QB isn't worth a roster spot either, I bet..

As a reminder to people.. The Pats WR room to start 2009: Moss, Welker, Aiken, Tate, Galloway, Slater, Edelman.

They also carried 5 RB to start the season: Maroney, Faulk, Morris, BJGE, and Fred Taylor.

They only carried 2 TEs as Sammy Morris did a lot of lead blocking that year.

This really is the only thing that has been irking me on the offense. Catch the ****ing ball. I dunno why this has been an issue for awhile now.

However, I do believe that Diggs will give these guys some room to finally learn in games. Diggs knows the pressure of being a 1 and can lead the others. They finally have time to learn from a game and not be outright shell shocked the moment things go bad, or thinking they have to be heroes.

Fingers crossed.
One of the issues with Diggs is that he drops the ball. Not nearly as bad as Edelman/Welker, but he does.

From 2018-2023
Total # of games: 96
Avg # of games: 16
Total Targets: 887
Avg Targets: 147.8
Avg targets per game: 9.2
Avg Drops:/season 6.3

1 drop per 23.4 targets

We have to hope that, during the season, they come in non-critical situations.
