Hollins As A Special Teamer

Why would you want a 32 year old taking up a roster spot to sit on the bench?
I'm not a big Hollins guy but I'm not just handing WR5 to one of the younger kids just because they are young with more future upside. They have to show something that makes me believe in that future.

To answer your question you keep Hollins if you deem his value to this years team and especially to a young developing QB even if just for 1 year to be more important than keeping a developmental player. Which right now is not very far fetched.

A lot will be determined by how much you want to rely on Williams and even Boutte especially early in the year. They are still developing too and you can't fill the whole WR roster except Diggs with that type of WR.

Right now I don't exactly see Hollins making it but it's not like Polk, Baker, and Chism are making it that hard on Hollins. I need to see more from whichever of these 4 we give that final spot or 2. Based solely on what we see at practice Baker is probably in the lead but not by much and class room work and other stuff probably leans toward the vet Hollins (if it doesn't he has no shot).

If Hollins plays only on running downs he will be on the field half the game. Add in play action, screens, etc., and Hollins will play a lot of snaps. Maye was looking at Hollins a lot during the Wash scrimmage.
~20 plays a game feels right for a guy with his skill level.
Last year in Buffalo, 443 snaps which is a bit over 25 per game.

Played a lot of snaps, and everybody on this board is complaining and ready to cut him because he wasn’t targeted very much. Same thing will happen here. He will block on pass plays, helping our T Rex LT, block on screens, play action, and at the end of the year this board will again be filled by a clamor to dump him for underperforming.

You told us that Hollins was the reason why McDaniels was fired.

He was not even on the team.

A few posts back you had Hollins as WR1 competi g with Diggs. Today he is Inactive in street clothes.
I didn’t say that, but having a wr play 94% of the snaps and only produce 690 yards is a factor in why they stunk.

Jesus your reading comprehension is horrid.
Read slowly.
When Hollins was signed we didn’t have Diggs or Williams.
His chances of making the team went down when we signed Diggs and drafted Williams.

Is English your second language?

Hollins played 721 snaps last year in Buffalo.

You're the one who connected the dots of Hollins leading to McDaniels firing.

Do a better job at back pedaling and BS,

Polk beating out Hollins on PUP was a classic.

No 5hit.

The Pats had a plan to bring in veteran WRs. Someone of Diggs caliber was going be signed in FA with the abundance of cap money. They still gave Hollins 3,5 mil guaranteed regardless of who would be signed. Hollins was never in competition for the # 1 WR as you tried tell me. Another load of BS.

You can want Polk and Baker who have amounted to 5hit thus far to be on the roster instead of Hollins all you want.

According to you and you're always wrong.

Spin up some more BS.

Baker plays faster than his timed speed he's an X-WR. Our Fastest WR's are Kyle Williams - J Baker and K Boutte in that order.
Science doesn’t care about your opinion.

Diggs, Williams, Douglas and Webb have better (4.4) inline speed than Baker or Boutte… neither is very fast.

4.5 is average for the position. And they don’t test these players at the combine and pro days just so you can make up imaginary numbers.

Hollins played 94% of the snaps and had less than 700 receiving yards on a team that was 6/11.

I’m not backpedaling, you have the reading comprehension of a bal of yarn.

Now you are trying to tell me Hillins chances of making the team IMPROVED when we brought in 2 roster locks at WR.

Yo, yarn boy, YOU are the one saying he was competing for WR1 not me. I’m talking about roster spot and playing time.
Just for the fun of it though, who protected as the top 3 WRs before Diggs and Williams were signed?

It was an honest question. Your responses appear to show you don’t comprehend the language. And worse yet you keep repeating your misunderstanding after bein an ordered numerous times.
Maybe it’s intellect?

Youre a dim bulb.

Its always the same. You make an idiotic statement and then play bend dont break defense to try and weasel out of it. Sprinkle in a few more stupid statements for good measure.

Round and around you go. Where your idiocy stops nobody knows.

2 posts. You're in violation of the rules. You should know better.

What happens is I make a statement you can’t understand English so you act like I said something I didn’t and go into a tailspin arguing against something you made up.

It turns into you chasing your tail until you give up and start throwing insults.

So when in Rome.
I’ll just start responding to you the way you post.

I can’t believe you think that Mack Hollins is a superstar and is going to be an all pro.

I'm fine with not counting Hollins as a WR and keeping 5 plus him.

As Andy said, the WR's that will get almost all the reps are Diggs, Douglas, Boutte, and Williams. These are our FOUR. BTW, the 4th WR hasn't caught more 2 receptions a game in the past 10 years. We NEED 3 plus a backup.
================
So, OK, let's keep a developmental WR as our 6th. I just don't think that any of Chism, Polk or Baker will be the first #4 or #5 WR to average more than 2 receptions a game in over 10 years.

And you’re wrong. Chism will definitely surpass the numbers you are talking about. He had 6 catches, 50 yards, and a touchdown with a garbage QB, he will become Mayes favorite target. I know you don’t have any respect for him, but at least Vrabel does, and he singled him out for praise after the game last night:

I think his play strength stood out to me, just from the sideline,” Vrabel said. “I think it’s the way he blocks, his ability to catch the ball in traffic. The ball was basically tipped or bobbled coming out of Ben’s [Wooldridge] hand, kind of ran through a tackle, ran through contact, and we threw him a screen. So, those are all positive things. I think his play strength to me is what stood out.”

If Baker continues his upward trajectory it will be outright foolish to hold onto an old thoroughly average WR just because Josh likes the guy. Baker is a big physical guy, I’m sure he can play special teams also.
Just saying…

Hollins is a proven NFL pro.

Baker is not.
Proven yes… he’s been a #5-6 WR in the NFL for seven years…. 5 teams in seven years.

But he’s Josh’s binkie… so there’s that.

Why does 5 teams in 7 years matter? Hes still been on an NFL roster and has played a ton.
But he’s Josh’s binkie… so there’s that.
You make it sound like hes a protected class and he isn't.

You said proven… he’s proven average.
You make it sound like hes a protected class and he isn't.
He probably is… he’s immediately got starter treatment after returning from injury and started running with the 1’s.

You said proven… he’s proven average.
So? Can't have 53 all-pros on your roster. Nothing wrong with reserves and special teamers on the roster.

Please.

Like I was saying, Baker playing special teams well and being a physical threat on offense should get him rostered. He is the future. If not for Morgan Moses, Hollins would be the oldest player on the team.
He did.
