One thing that is not being mentioned is that the patriots OL could not run block or pass block last year. They should be able to run block this year.

A running game is a young QB’s best friend. If Rham and Henderson play well, we can be run-first and have Maye pick his spots. Would minimize pass blocking concerns, and help with Maye’s adjustment to the new offense.

That was the plan behind Mac's first (and only relatively successful) season.

It was easier with Mac in that he had come from a pro-style offense. Maye pretty much played out of shotgun in college, and I don’t recall a ton of traditional play action last year.

Although I guess nowadays there are a lot more options with shotgun runs; an RPO approach could provide a similar benefit as a play action system, and that’s something Drake does have experience with.

Commanders defense was ranked 13th last year. Not knowing the changes that have occurred leading to today I assume they still have a pretty good defense. Todays practice will be a good measuring stick for the offense and young Drake. The Commanders were 7th on offense so we will get a better idea of just how good the defense truly is(would be a better indication if Davis/Gonzo was out there). Great day to gauge the team for the upcoming season.
