RB is an undiscussed weakness on the Patriots

I see a similar situation to the Lions

Stevenson=Montgomery. 40-45% of the snaps. 700+ yards rush. 250 yards pass
Henderson=Gibbs. 45-50% of the snaps. 700+ yards rush. 400 yards pass
Gibson-back up both. can play either spot well.
Larison redshirt season
Perhaps, coaching for Lions is weak enough to carry only 3 RB's. I think that Vrabel is better than that. I suppose that larison on PS is a plus for HIM. When the first RB get injured, he'd be picked up.

I think that Stevenson should be our change of pace #2 back. Is that over-rating him?
No it’s underrating him, and incorrect.

Stevenson is the starter.

Henderson will play a similar number of snaps, as
1) the “backup”
2) the 3rd down back
3) the “passing game back”

It will look like Ridley and Woodhead.

Gibson backs up both.

RB4 will be on the practice squad.
and pray for no injuries!

I don't think that this is Vrabel's style, but perhaps you're right. Personally, I strongly prefer a 4th RB to a lot of other choices.

I think Larison should be that fourth back.
Would like to see the the third tight end as a fullback tight end hybrid.

Why? Your RB3 is barely going to see the field.
Why waste a roster spot on a RB when every candidate would be practice squad eligible and not at all likely to be poached?

fwiw, my comment on Larison is he is the 4th RB on the roster, not PS.

.Like I said, this is a really thin position.
4 talented backs, two power two speed… hardly thin. There’s always good RB’s out there on waivers.

Stevenson fumbled yesterday on a play he shouldn't have, which has been an ongoing problem dating back to college.

He's obviously good enough to be a starter without them, but the fumbles are making Stevenson borderline unusable if this keeps up, or at minimum a player who will flat out cost games.

Who is the backup?

With the WR issues over the years, this is a scratch that has been ignored.
Fortunately I think if Rhamondre ****s the bed you can bench his ass and probably be okay. Gibson was our best RB last season.

Devin Neal out of Kansas is TreVeyon Henderson without the breakaway speed. But highly productive. Saints took him in a later round. Pick 184 in the sixth round.
Yep. That’s been my guy for a couple of years now. Highly underrated.

The team with a RB injury would promote their own ps RB.

I understand.

We simply disagree on how to constitute the 25 players we usually have on Offense.

THE FIRST 21
QB - 2
WR - 5
RB - 3
FB - 0
OL - 9
TE - 2
ST - 0

AND THEN CHOOSE 3-5 MORE
One could make arguments for, one of which could be primarily a STer
#3 QB
#6 WR
#7 WR
#4 RB
#1 FB
#10 OL
#3 TE
#4 TE
The OPEN question is which ones are most important on the 53, and which could be called up or signed if needed.

FOR ME, I CHOOSE 4 MORE, MAKING A TOTAL OF 25
1) #10 OL
2) #6 WR
3) #3 TE/FB
4) #4 RB

It's been a few years but that's still relatively new. Some of the new PS squad/GameDay activation rules make it so you can split that "choose 3-5 more" in a multitude of ways that can be fluid from week to week.

In the past you needed a certain amount of depth on the 53 at each position and it was harder to vary this even if you were risking losing a more skilled player because you just couldn't risk running out of numbers at each position.

I agree.

I applaud the recent changes to the Practice Squad rules.

Still, we have a 53-man squad as the base number to work around. And we do have choices in how we use the roster especially (obviously) the last 5.

I do think that there is less controversy with regard to how to use choices on Defense. We need 13 in the front, 10 as DB's, one STer and 0-2 more.

Wish I seen the play... was he carrying it like a loaf of bread? Careless? Was 2 hands on the ball? A fumbling back is no back. They will go after him all year. Rather run the rookies wheels off. I.m.o.
It was a run left and as he got past the line he cutback to the middle. Decent gain maybe 5 or 6 yards.

He was carrying it with one hand. Not like a loaf. Initially I don't think it was careless. But yes at the end (my assumption is) he assumed the play dead before the D stopped and I suppose that's careless but not exactly something that happens in a real game because he'd know the play was live since they'd actually have to tackle him.

Ultimately it's still on him especially given his reputation and being more diligent in practice does carry over to games. I guess I would say if this is his only one in camp then it's a nothing burger but given his past history we can't shrug it off if he has a few more and might even need to consider his starter status

Couldn’t disagree more. Henderson is fire. He will be the starter before the end of the season - a good bit before, I think.

As for Stevenson sometimes putting the ball on the ground? Maybe it happens a bit, but he’s a more than serviceable back whose power will prove a good complement to Henderson’s zip.

The thing I'm least worried about is our RB corp.

Rham had serious fumble issues last year and if it continues he's going to have to sit. But let's not forget what a stud he is. Go back and look at last year's games and see how many yards he gained after contact. He routinely broke would-be tackles in the backfield and gained positive yardage. He thrives in a gap scheme.

Gibson is a one cut and go back and thrives in zone.

Henderson is just flat out explosive

Larison could be another Rex Burkhead and gives us great depth.

Perhaps.

You seem to think that we have a 69-man roster with no poaching.

If a team were to lose a RB, I agree that a RB would likely be elevated for the next game. However, I would expect that the team would look around to see if there is a RB worth poaching and giving a 3-week trial.

I agree that Larison would likely make the initial Practice Squad. I expect poaching after there are injuries and when teams are building toward 2026.
