OT: Josh Simmons steal of draft

Main fact is he does not have physical size and length of arms to be an NFL LT. Also yes his early struggles in TC.
Of course nothing is a certainty. Many of my comments are mostly made in jest. But there seem to be areas of concern for a #3 pick. During this quiet time mostly like to stimulate discussion.
Campbell was the #4 pick. Maye was the #3 pick.

Thanks. You are right. Principle still holds
When was the last time a LT taken as a top 5 pick did not work out?

This thread will be fun to look back on in the future....
As Cap’n Stone says, some of us will be right and some of us will be wrong. Campbell will ultimately settle in and prosper as a guard.

Facts hurt, I know.
Simmons will not be the only LT taken in this draft who will be better than Campbell.
Not every draft pick can be a home run.
But its reasonable to expect a #3 pick would be a perennial all pro.
Pats will regret this draft pick.
The LT problem will not be fixed by Campbell.

The other draft picks are all mostly good.so its still a productive draft.
Too bad the Pats dont have any draft picks left.

Bob Kraft traded them away for Parsons and McLaurin.

Maybe the Pats could trade the 2028 1st for a LT??? Simmons???

Greg Robinson and Robert Gallery come to mind tho with Robinson he had other issues when he was drafted and should have never been taken at 2 overall.

I don’t believe Campbell will bust. Worst case scenario he will slide over to guard.

Yeah. Silly. Go smoke dope, people. Real games in a month or so. Watch a movie. Go to the beach. Stop the mental masturbation on our beloved forum.

Take your dog for a walk in the dog days of summer.
It’s been a few minutes since you wrote this ^

Is Simmons in the Hall Of Fame yet?

It’s still early but I would be lying if I was confident in Campbell being our long term answer at LT. He is a smart kid, talented and seems to have the right attitude. He’ll be a good player in whatever position works best.

The joint practices will be telling with Campbell. Anything less than a Matt Light-quality player would be a big time fail.

This is a spot on post. He has the intangibles and attitude to succeed, but I am slightly worried. Not panicking, far too early for that, but slightly concerned. If he ends up having Lights career as a LT I would be more than happy,

Agreed. All I’m asking for is a steady, reliable LT who gets the job done. The measurable have always been a major concern. What I’d like to know is whether the early struggles in camp are connected to his arm length.

We’ll find out soon regardless.

It’s sad we have a Josh Simmons thread that is already 9 pages deep but not a “Will Campbell Watch” thread.
There’s been the good, the bad and the ugly already with Will but we want to talk about a guy who was drafted end of first round.

Post a Will Campbell thread, I will be happy to add some thoughts. This thread got so much play because Sam started a controversial topic about how good Simmons is and out came the wolves, myself included.

Fact is you are not just a negative whiny biotch, you are a dumbass.
I very much doubt the Pats will regret the #3 pick in the draft as they did not make it. Pick #3 was Abdul Carter he was chosen by the Giants.

He was confused, he also hates Drake Maye, their #3 pick.

If Jennifer Lawrence marries me I will leave this board.

No rookie left tackle has made All Pro this century.1

I can give credit where it's due. If he stays healthy and they got a steal good for the Chiefs.

That obviously doesn't mean the Patriots made a mistake with Campbell or should have picked him instead of Campbell. A torn patella like Simmons had is a very bad injury for his position. Personally I'd stay away from a guy like that in the first round for a team with a lot of needs like ours.
I think where the Chiefs got him was just about right with one of the worst injuries to have. If it pays off they look like genius’s, if not, no big deal it was a late round pick ala Sony Michel, D Easly etc. yes….Sony got us a championship. He was awesome in that playoff run.

Look at the studies on the players that have had the same injury and it isn’t promising. Better than it was 10 years ago but not something I’m going to bank my job on as a GM with the #4 pick in the draft. That will get you fired real quick.

What he has been doing is amazing and even though he plays for the Queefs I’m still cheering him on because he really is fighting the odds incredibly well. This article is a 4 year study based from 2009-10 and 2022-23. Very informative read which gives you some depth on the severity of these types of injuries. Read a few older studies last year, but saw this new study was published in 2025 and had loads of data.

Sam it is not "fact" it is your opinion. And you need to gen up on who was taken where in the draft.

It takes 3 years to really know if you have a good player.
