OT: Josh Simmons steal of draft

Seems like Demontrey Jacobs have rubbed off on OL Coach Doug Marrone: he's getting a lot of run. Marcus Bryant intrigues me: he played alongside Armand Membou in College.
Not really “alongside” but rather bookends.

Difference being that a premier LT is harder to find than IOL.
Simmons was drafted in the first round, so you expect players in the first round to be good.

Simmons also has an injury history that concerns which caused him to slide, but he was expected to be good.

Wilson was drafted late in the 3rd round, missed the rookie practices, and five days into training camp he seized the starting LG position.

His teammates use unexpected superlatives when describing what they think of Wilson.

My initial impression was of the person more than the player after hearing him speak for the first time. Seems extremely well spoken and a leader.

THAT is a steal.

I’m dismissive of Bryant. But it’s a tantalizing prospect to have Jacobs “Danteized,” if I can coin a word.

Dude could theoretically put it together. Just didn’t seem to care enough to do so in the past.

Seventh round was a perfect time to draft OT Logan Brown and center Seth McLaughlin as Mr Irrelevant. That way budding star Jared Wilson, with his IOL flexibility, could stay at LG.

It was a very good draft until the last two rounds.

Facts hurt, I know.
Simmons will not be the only LT taken in this draft who will be better than Campbell.
Not every draft pick can be a home run.
But its reasonable to expect a #4 pick would be a perennial all pro.
Pats will regret this draft pick.
The LT problem will not be fixed by Campbell.

The other draft picks are all mostly good.so its still a productive draft.

Sam, you could be right in time, but what facts are you referring to?

The fact that Campbell is making mistakes?
The fact that reports coming from Chiefs came on Simmons are glowing (we've seen this before)?
So if those are your facts, not sure how you're drawing your other conclusions.

Pats will regret this pick? That is not a fact today
Simmons will not be the only LT better than Campbell? That is not a fact today
The fact that Campbell can't be a probowl player? That is not a fact today

The only facts are Campbell is making mistakes in camp, and hopefully correction them. And that Simmons is getting press from his home team media, a fact we've seen before.

Nothing else is fact

You're drawing conclusions from a very little sample size and from media prone to glorify their own.

Further more from a Chiefs fan page:

"According to camp reports he’s done really well vs danna, omenihu and gillote, and has struggled vs Karlaftis. Which makes sense as GK is likely our best edge rusher."

So best on best he's had his issues, not much different than Campbell, but somehow Campbell is a bust and Simmons is destined to be an all-pro.

What "Facts" are those mister know it all?
That Simmons has 33" Arms, and tore his Patella?
What else you got?

You can’t determine steals of the draft until after the season… not a week into camp.

Silly…
Yeah. Silly. Go smoke dope, people. Real games in a month or so. Watch a movie. Go to the beach. Stop the mental masturbation on our beloved forum.

Take your dog for a walk in the dog days of summer.

Wingspans, more important than arm length, for OTs setting the edge:

Josh Simmons, 82”
Will Campbell, 77 2/8”, which is punier than two of the three QBs on the roster currently. Guy’s a guard. You’ll just have to wait a year or two to see it.

Know it all's would rather be right than have a good team.
You guys make me sick.
Bah, 2 more added to the ignore.

Main fact is he does not have physical size and length of arms to be an NFL LT. Also yes his early struggles in TC.
Of course nothing is a certainty. Many of my comments are mostly made in jest. But there seem to be areas of concern for a #3 pick. During this quiet time mostly like to stimulate discussion.

I've mostly dismissed the wingspan issue because the elite feet mitigates that to a large degree IMO. He's a rookie...they are supposed to make mistakes and learn. We'll see what happens during the season. I hope I'm right for a change.

You certainly stimulate discussion, I will give props on that.

The arm length is definitely a cause for concern. It's not the only determining factor (there have been good OT with less than ideal length), but it is something to consider and monitor.

I remain hopeful that with his coach-ability and athletic ability (he is known to have tremendous feet), that he can overcome the less than ideal length and be a good starting LT for us, but that is obv far from a certainty.

Wow Sam, what a great post. Who would have ever thought that you didn’t like the Campbell pick? Then again you hated Jayden Daniel’s because of his “ articulation,” and hated Maye at 3 as well, so why would anyone listen when you clearly don’t know what you are talking about?

Just for context, without googling, who is the blurb referring to?

"While not a complete standout, XXXXX showed flashes of his future dominance. He was considered a strong run blocker, and his athleticism was evident. However, he also had moments where he struggled with consistency, which is normal for a rookie offensive lineman."

??

Fact is you are not just a negative whiny biotch, you are a dumbass.
I very much doubt the Pats will regret the #3 pick in the draft as they did not make it. Pick #3 was Abdul Carter he was chosen by the Giants.
