When is enough money for the NFL enough???
They have a monopoly and the true goal is to bleed the fans dry

There is no such thing as "enough". As long as we keep giving more and more to them, they will keep taking more and more from us.

I've drawn the line at streaming services, which I refuse to buy. I wish more people who complained about the NFL's greed stood with me on that, but they don't.

Complaining about greed in a society that's literally built on encouraging it is like complaining about cars on roads.

NFL is like......

I always think of Marc Cuban's quote on the NFL about the NFL with his "Pigs get fed, hogs get slaughtered". Granted he was off on the timeline as he said that 10 years ago but timing aside it will come eventually. The cost of going to the games and having a couple beers and a hot dog has already priced a lot of people out and as less and less kids play youth football there will be a smaller talent pool. It also seems Gen Z isn't as interested in the NFL (or many things prior generations were) so the NFL seems to be trying to figure out how to connect with the younger crowd as we speak.

People have been saying "it will come eventually!!" for 11 years now. Time to face the reality that Cuban didn't have the first clue what he was talking about.

Meanwhile the NFL continues to make more and more money, have a greater and greater influence on the sports calendar, and is more and more popular than ever before.

America's business model. The yearly profit must exceed the previous year.

At some point it reaches the peak then there is nowhere to go but down. It may not be soon but at some point the popularity will decline and the main reason will be self inflicted.

Like I said... we've been hearing the same routine for 11 years now and the NFL is literally stronger than any sport has ever been in our modern age. Get back to us when it actually happens.

NFL is OK with smaller number of richer fans, as is most corporations. Once you hit a certain volume, it's all about soaking 'premium' customers. If it all goes tits up, all the people making the decisions to enshittify the product have long since cashed out.

That's in part due to a lack of pensions for the majority of the workforst. Investors want steady returns on a larger amount of money each year so they can live after their working days are done. As a retired person, my life depends on it.

It feels odd to hate vulture capitalism and to be dependent on it at the same time, but that's where things are for me.

It can be capitalism, but "vulture" capitalism also eliminates jobs for long time workers and adds workload to reduced staff. It's one thing to operate efficiently but paring to the bone just achieve a number is criminal to me. Wish you well.

Indeed. I was having that thought this evening. There was a time when it was OK to make a great product with a profit margin set mainly to sustain the company as it continued to make great products. Now it's set based on what the market will bear, and if you don't, an activist investor/shareholder will come along and make it happen with a new hand picked executive team.

For instance, see what is going on right now with Market Basket / DeMoula's.

Wish you well.

Thanks. It's just a moral qualm I'm struggling with, one of a long list of them.

The Athletic:

“The NFL and ESPN reached a blockbuster agreement that will place many of the league’s top media holdings with the sports network in exchange for equity in ESPN that is potentially worth billions, sources briefed on the agreement told The Athletic.

An official announcement is expected next week. Disney, ESPN’s parent company, has its earnings call on Wednesday.

ESPN and the NFL declined comment.”

No conflicts of interest for ESPN and the NFL caused by the ownership interest, no siree!

There are conflicts of interest with all the networks although this does indeed raise it to another level.

I have been boycotting ESPN for many years now. I will simply extend that boycott to NFL Network products. If lack of access to that network's options makes for a less satisfying experience following the NFL, I'll probably just follow the Pats best I can in local media and ignore the league as a whole. I do not find anyway that the NFL game is generally as interesting as it once was, to be honest, and I think there are ethical concerns with following a game burdened with an increasingly ugly subculture, with fewer players all the time who are the sort of people one can root for, a game which has helped to make of the old expression :"sports build character" a sick joke, and a game which for health reasons no parent in his or her right mind would allow their child to play. Football for me, and I suspect increasingly for others, has lost much of its appeal. Once upon a time I followed the NBA - no longer - and my life feels every bit as complete. Nothing is forever, not even the NFL.

Greedy mfers!!!!
I used to be able to subscribe to redone for 10/month from September to January as an add on to comcast.

Now that ESPN and NFL have expanded their monopoly, It will be 30/month for ESPN+ (that I do not want)
or subscribe to You Tube TV for 100.month and pay an extra 11/month for red zone add on.

Bottom line is that even though NFL and ESPN/Disney are raking in billions ITS NOT ENOUGH.
Squeeze the consumers.

I would love to see Government take away their limited anti trust exemption.
