They had more tackles than guards, they needed a guard when Strange went down. Onwenu had position flexibility and putting the rookie between two vets seemed like the smartest move.

If they had more tackles than guards, why would they ever move the guard to tackle in order so the player who "won" the job at tackle could move to guard.

Again Bill Murray was literally the backup on the tackle depth chart with the injuries at that time.

The backup RT now is a second year player who had a bust rookie season (due to injury). So they have really nothing plus an aging vet as starter. Sow is on the bubble at guard. If he showed anything at tackle like you say that's where he would be lining up next week.

Let me understand.

Our starting LG is coming back from injury. Our backups other than Sow are two Robinsons who showed ZERO at LG.
We have a seasoned veteran RT, a 2024 rookie recovering from injury, and the player who started at RT (and we expect to go to the PS).

YOUR CONCLUSION
Given this, you would have Sow practicing at RT?

I wouldn't because Sow sux at tackle.

But if Sow had earned the job as starting tackle as a rookie on an NFL team, rather than simply being only man still standing, wouldn't he be a consideration to play there again?

Especially since many of the rosters I see do not have Sow even making the team as a guard.

Onwenu will NOT be a trade candidate. No one wants his contract.
========
In any case, the fiction of Onwenu being overweight and playing poorly is just that.

Playing RG between Brown and Jacobs would make even an all-pro look like a poor lineman.

Onwenu will be much, much better this season, and probably next.

Bradbury, Onwenu and Moses will not be the problem on this Offense.
Ownenu has always had a build like that. He came into the league with a wide body build. I think in college didn't he initially play on defense but then switched to OL?? Thought I heard that. I believe he's a good player and it's important he het back to his borderline all pro ways. Don't forget to add Campbell as well.. he also will NOT be a problem. The only problem is if he goes down and the return of Lowe has to happen.

What positions are you keeping on the 53? I have
LT 2
LG 2
OC 2
RG 2
RT 2

Even that is a lot. In the past, we have kept 8 or 9 or 10.

For me, that doesn't leave room for Brown. Strange is likely the backup OC until Wilson is ready.

Its Brown vs Bradbury. @Wozzy believes there is no chance Brown wins the job. Bradbury is a known commodity on the downside of his career. Brown is not. He was literally thrown into a terrible situation last year. The entire unit and coaching were abysmal. We don't know what Brown's potential is at this point.

You can take the default position that he's trash and he sucks and you MIGHT not be wrong but at this point you aren't definitively right.

you are correct
but at the moment, given their body of work and experience, Bradbury certainly has the leg up, maybe two legs up.
Brown with additional experience and coaching, certainly could be a viable option pending how Bradbury performs and Wilson progresses.

I think the ideal scenario by the end of the year, if not sooner, would be:

LT: Campbell seizes the reigns at the spot and looks great
LG: Sow emerges as the starter
C: Jared Wilson emerges as the starter
RG: Onwenu still the starter, but Layden Robinson seems ready for a starting spot
RT: Moses still the starter but Caeden seems ready for a starting spot

Bradbury is a JAG. Strange has been JAG caliber and is a FA after the year. Onwenu/Moses are expensive and ideally replaced by younger/cheaper options over the next few years.

That's aggressive projections for Sow/Robinson/Wallace though off of their short careers so far and Wilson is still just a rookie.

Quinnen Williams. Twice a year.

Just like Will Campbell has to contend with his nemesis last year in Landon Jackson, the Bills’ second-rounder.
So what?

Play well as a unit, get the ball out of Drake’s hands, run smart plays…. the recipe for beating a talented defensive front doesn’t change.

The tackles couldn’t play guard as effectively as their natural positions. Sow is on the bubble… from who, who is the threat?

If Bradbury hasn’t lost a step, he has the center position locked up, Strange has the LG position locked up unless Sow looks great and Wilson is far more advanced as a rookie then we knew… in which case Strange is probably your LG, or a trade candidate because of his contract.

Bradbury, Strange, Wilson… there are too many good players in front of Brown. He’s also a practice squad type athlete… so there’s that.

Onwenu played at 370 in college and slimmed down to 350 before the draft, that is where he has played ever since… he’s just big.

And yes, he was a two way player in college, he was a guard who also played some nose tackle…. which for how much money he’s making Vrabel ought to remember. He’d be a good piece of beef in the middle if Tonga gets hurt or sucks.

We need as many good OL as possible id like to keep him there. As we all know the techniques needed to play OL/DL are totally different. We have plenty of beef with Pharms and Roy that can't help with some beef upfront in the rotation should Tonga miss time. I will really find it hard for whoever to make this team and suck. This isn't the Bro hugs show like last season if you suck as a DL you won't be on the 53..

Here are a couple of rosters where Sow is not included on the 53.

Also Greg Bedard, who is not well liked, but is right more than wrong, has Sow off his roster in his subscription area.

I think Sow should and will make the team, but as a guard, not as a two position player. They would bring a jag like D. Jacobs off the practice squad before trying that disaster again.

Some rosters, of course, have Sow making the team, but this is the definition of on the bubble.

Outside of Tonga and Barmore they have some good technicians but I wouldn’t say they have a lot of beef. 350 pounds of great athlete at nose tackle is always a good option to have even if you don’t use it.

These ^ are the same people who told me last offseason that Okorafor, Leverett and Jordan were good free agent signings and that Wolf filled multiple needs in the draft by taking Wallace and Robinson.

That's true. They have some guys with great first steps. The 350 guys are really good to have but in today's NFL are a bit archaic. We need guys with speed, power and techniques. Also don't be surprised if you see Jennings at DE as well.
