Wow. 18 years later, and those grapes haven’t sweetened one bit.

This fanbase just won’t give Peyton his due.
I give Manning his due for Denver all the time. But why would I give him his due for the 2006 travesty? He came out first half and shriveled badly. Were it not for so many horrendous calls (starting in the first half with the OPI on Troy Brown, but continuing with the no contact pass interference on Hobbs, followed by that horrendous no call on Caldwell getting mauled in the end zone, the fix was in. Manning loses yet another playoff game to the Patriots without intervention. And the Patriots have 7 Super Bowl wins.

I believe the proper response is ... ahem ... "**** that"

lol

The more I watch of Eason, the more I think....what was everybody complaining about? Dude took a beating and still seemed like he was very efficient for an 80s era quarterback. You look at some other guys from that time and Eason was really very good at protecting the ball.

When the - at that point - greatest player the team has ever had makes a comment about how you should be wearing a skirt in the media in the 1980s you were ****ing doomed.

Fun topic to go with this one: Which opposing player had the worst game against the Patriots?

I'll start: The 59-0 blowout in the snow vs Titans.
Kerry Collins 2/12, 0 TD, 1 int, minus 7 yards passing

Well it didn't help that he was being thrown under the bus by Hannah in the media but you know, that's only bad when Manning does it.
Tony Eason was potentially a good quarterback. He was accurate, ran a decent game. Just didn't have the right mentality to stand the punishment.

Eason is only one in the endless line of highly paid first round draft picks who could throw a football, did their best but were precipitously below the level of a complete, difference making leader like Montana, Grogan, Flutie and Brady.

Hog's statement is accurate, as he stated it in comparing Tony to Grogan. The Patriots' offense, defense and special teams carried the team to those victories under Eason.

Their chances of victory in the playoffs against the Bears and a year later in Denver would have been astronomically higher had Grogan started.

What happened at the end in '88 is exactly what would have occurred in '01 had Bledsoe been put back in, and we would still be sitting on zero titles today.

I’d say Tony Eason….oh wait, you said of opposing teams? Imho TE WAS playing for the opposing teams at times….
My heart sank every time Eason was named the starter. All that money they paid him did not make him good.

The bottom line for Tony was that he was being paid - a ton of money.

This was so recent it stands out to me but probably a bunch of other candidates better........Belichick really got in the head of Zach Wilson.

Jan 5, 1964, AFL Championship, Keith Lincoln
I died that day.
A crushing blow to this then-young Pats fan's delusional hopes.

Lincoln rushed for 206 yards on 13 carries, team-leading 123 yards receiving, and a pass completion for 20 yards. He thoroughly dominated.
