Who's gonna stop the run to make all of these 3-Techs & Pass-Rushers look good?

17 straight running plays... SEVENTEEN...

It ain't gonna be the Million Dollar Twins Barmore & Williams, not by a damn sight. Neither had that kinda game in college; and I doubt they've developed one since then either. Farmer might be more productive vs the run already than either of them, but he also doesn't have enough sand in his pants to be productive consistently either. And he's a rookie to boot. Jack the King? A nice training camp/practice squad/maybe end-of-53 player, but he's not the #1-2 DT on running downs in this league we needed, and still do....

Khyiris Tonga? I was initially glad because at least they finally signed somebody; but then... Nothing. They would've been better-served spending a couple of extra bucks and at least signing his former lineman on the Cardinals, and the better player, Roy Lopez, if that was all they were gonna do.

Color me Skeptical.
Cap.. if you stop the run you can hamper any NFL offense.. why were those past patiots defenses so good? Because they stopped the run... the defense couldn't stop anything last season.

Focus on becoming a great run defense and everything will fall in place..

Cap, you okay?

On new meds or some such?

I’m not used to “color me skeptical” being the strongest vitriol in your entire post.

Hope this means life is treating you so well you’re mellowing despite your best efforts to the contrary!

jk, love your shtick. Don’t ever change!

N,

I'm sure @One-If-By-Sea would agree. Cap is a man of honor.. even if his takes are wrong he's stays firm on his sports takes.. gotta love the cap. .. his 3am post replies.. his rants are hilarious... there's only one captain! Truly one of kind.. then again we all think we are right that's why we are posters instead of professional athletes. Lmao.

This simply cannot be stressed enough.
Having Vrabel is such a bonus for the entire organization.. someone who commands respect in his locker room from the players, who the organization can entrust with the roster and development of players.

We are fortune. Vrabel is building something special here.

Yes the Cap is a classic. And you forgot he loves the Asian ladies.

New boss, same as the old boss. Hilarious. Nothing changes

Are we living in the upside world?

Barmore is a force against the run if healthy. Plop Tonga next to him on short or early downs and you have enough beef in the middle of the line.

Place Milton and White at DE and that is an incredibly tough front to run on. Landry is also a plus run defender off the edge at OLB. Assuming all these guys stay healthy the smallish LB’ers and SS’s should feast on tackles and play fast.

I like it Wozzy.. but ideally you'd want big Milton lined up at DT.. this entire front is a excellent group against the run.. even rotational players.. jennings,Gibbens, Elliss...are great run players..

He also needs to ensure that he doesn't fall in love with players merely because they are "his guys" or because he was the one who signed them. There might be some tough decisions ahead of them by the end of August and he needs to make those decisions based solely on football ability and Not on "Loyalty." I nearly acid-refluxed in my mouth when I heard him use that word at the top of his list...

Some do indeed think that football ability is the #1 decider.
============
Others consider experience and system fit.

I expect that how well a player is expected to play with Vrabel's system is more important than pure football ability.

This is NOT an issue of loyalty. "Vrabel's guy" should mean that a player is expected to fit better, giving him an advantage. Of course, camp will provide competition.

Remember the Amoeba Defense?

Think of Big Milton, Keion, Barmore, and Tonga all sort of milling around with nobody taking a stance to tell the OL who is going where to key their blocks…

Don’t worry about where they line up, focus on where they end up.

Great points! I like that analogy. Getting to the QB with regularity this season should be much better. As BB always said it's not about the sack numbers it's the pressures.. the pressures particularly up the middle are what will hamper an offense.. if the QB can't see over the middle then the play is already ruined. I feel like where we are really going to foil offenses is with teams the throw alot like the Bengals. As Great as Burrow is he's not leaving the pocket.

Thank goodness Grandma’s boy Steven Pavelka spoke on the issue. Barmore has always been a stronger pass rusher than run stopper. Not horrible against the run but serviceable.
Possibly, but what you have to remember is BB drafted him.. BB isn't going to take a player that highly if he can't play the run.. Barmore is a complete defensive lineman. I liken his game to Chris Jones.. provided Barmore can remain healthy i believe that's his potential.

I appreciate your positive attitude and love of the Pats, but you might want to dial it back a bit until we see some consistent results.

He’s closer to a DE that has the strength to shift inside on passing downs. He was 284 pounds leaving college.

The 2023 Patriots defense ranked #1 in the entire NFL in run defense (3.3 YPA)… but Barmore who led the team in snaps by a DT was a poor/average run defender… sounds legit.

Patriots fan forums… the only place great players can suck. Good grief….
