But Edelman was changing positions.Even Edelman wasn't Edelman until about year 4 or 5.

I didn't remember him being so durable, i have to retract my ''made of glass'' comment. He missed 5 games his first 5 years. Then it really fell off and he had a hard time staying on the field. To me that's not necessarily soft it's more just a really rough sport and position that ended his career early. Now I'm not denying it either just saying I think people throw that label around so easy without consideration for just how brutal the sport is. There obviously are guys that are soft and maybe a tougher player lasts longer than Mayo or maybe he was tough and the injuries were just too debilitating. He did try for three more years and his body just wouldn't hold up.

Edelman actually showed brief flashes as early as his rookie season. We ignored it because he was overshadowed by how good Welker was. Then Gronk, Hernandez, Branch and Lloyd showed up pushing him to the bottom of the depth chart and doing what he could to stay on the roster.Even Edelman wasn't Edelman until about year 4 or 5.
It seems like a good bet several candidates he's competing with but I'm rooting for the kid and wouldn't want to benefit from his not making it.So far no takers
Pop Douglas was saying KB is looking good in workouts so far.Boutte still has practice squad eligibility, I think, so they might hold onto Bourne and stash Boutte, but I think Bourne has to prove he can do it in camp or Hollins is the new McD favorite.
The only way that Chism is active is if he is the starting slot receiver.Once again you are underestimating Chism3. He won’t just make the 53, he will be active every week, and he will be their starting slot receiver by midseason at the latest. He’s going to be Drake Maye’s Julian Edelman.
It seems to me that he doesn't SIT where he should, keeps moving to try and hit the big one.Pop Douglas moves the same way too; nice having Two Solid Slots.
He was a QB, of course it took him time.Even Edelman wasn't Edelman until about year 4 or 5.

That because he was a QB coming out of college, Chism has been in this role for 4 years in college.

He was on the brink of leaving after the 2012 season thinking Welker was going to re-sign and Hernandez getting arrested.

He was FOOTBALL PLAYER.Heck I thought that by the 2011 SB, he was one of our very best Defensive Backs as well as Welker's top understudy. The dude just knew how to play football and would put everything he had into whatever position he was given.
As I've pointed out in the past, Edelman led all rookies in receptions when he broke his arm against TEN. It was after that that he mostly became an afterthought until Welker tore his ACL. And then BB overhauled the pass catchers in 2010.Edelman actually showed brief flashes as early as his rookie season. We ignored it because he was overshadowed by how good Welker was. Then Gronk, Hernandez, Branch and Lloyd showed up pushing him to the bottom of the depth chart and doing what he could to stay on the roster.

TBF, the Patriots basically didn't have a LB under 30 heading into 2008, either, so I can't fault them for going with Mayo.Hated the pick in 2008 and Clady should’ve been the pick who was not only heavily mocked to the Pats, but also given what just happened in the prior Super Bowl. Curtis Loften was a way better value in that 2nd round.
For all the comparisons of Pop Douglas to Chism.... they really don't play alike much at all. Douglas doesn't have great quickness and his shiftiness isn't really there. He more uses his really solid speed from the slot. The only reason i think he plays from the slot is due to his size. It doesn't feel like a natural fit for him IMO. I don't think any position is a natural fit for Douglas... he's kind of one of those tweener guys. Which isn't a bad thing. Amendola was a bit of a tweener.
Chism really is a pure slot guy. I do think we'll see a lot of him this year. Particularly once Diggs really hits his stride and Williams settlers into his role. Once you have those 2 going down the field more a more natural slot option like Chism starts to make more sense than Douglas (if you can only have one).
No, you said he'd be a starter by midseason at worst.Which is exactly what I expect him to be.

That is NOT the same as being our starter from Game One.
Which is exactly what I expect him to be.
