I’d be shocked if Chism makes the team. Diggs and Polk would have to start the season on PUP. As much as I would love for Chism to make the team, we’ve seen this movie before. Remember Austin Carr, he was the Chism of 2017. Actually had a great camp and preseason, then was cut.

Have you seen him play? IMO this is very different. If you watch the footage of him playing, and it’s extensive, you would swear you were watching Edelman play. He’s a better athlete and a better football player than Polk, Baker, and Boutte, and he plays special teams, which none of them do. I think he was brought in to fill a very specific a slot role for them, the same slot role Welker and Edelman played, and I’m convinced he’s going to make the 53.

What does he do on STs other than KR/PR?

Bourne and Baker will be cut. Polk to PS.

We are gonna carry 6 WR which means one of dippre / lampe will be cut. Jahein Bell no chance whatsoever unless injury claims dippre/ lampe.

Wr - Diggs / Pops/ Williams/Hollins/ Boutte/ Chism

RB - all sons --- Stevenson / Henderson / Gibson / larison

TE - Henry/ hooper / Dippre

OL - 9 or 10 here .

ST - 4 people including schooler

Leaves defense with 26 or 27 folks .

Some tough cuts .
I'm still not conceding a spot to Mack Hollins...you might be sleeping on Bourne. Haven't heard anything bad about Bourne this Off-season: he might be ready to break out. His Best year as a Pro came under McDaniels as OC. Diggs should make this entire group better: TC competition at @ WR should be fun.

Based on early reviews plus his combine #'s (outside of 40 time) added to his production in college I'd be more shocked if he doesn't make the roster. Carr was a catch the ball in traffic guy, Chism is a get open with quickness and deception. Chism fits Josh's offense very well.
Chism's game is creating quick separation despite lack of top end speed. The only question is can he do it against better competition than he saw in college and so far the answer seems to be yes.

Hula Bowl, Shrine Bowl, OTA's. All been very impressive.

In college He was 22 rec on 26 attempts for 202 yards and 3 TD's on out routes. He's shown an elite ability on out routes. That quickness shows up there. Edelman was elite at that as well.
Another big reason he makes the roster is he may not make it to the practice squad if cut.

Of course, he could fall off in full training camp but as of now he seems like he's making the team.

The only reason I think he might make the team is his contract. It was an indication that the team was really high on him and that there was competition with other teams that wanted him. Him and Dipre were two of the highest UDFA contracts.

the Pats slot WR's have historically seen a ton of targets, and take a lot of hits. Chism at 180-185 lbs needs to get stronger to take those hits, with out losing his quickness.
early reports seems very encouraging

We also pick 4th on the waiver wire for the first 4 weeks of this season. Let's hope that status is put to better use than it was throughout last season.
I mentioned before about not getting first crack on waiver wire, which could have netted us a good player or 2.
It's the Jerod Mayo gift that keeps on giving.

E Chism will get caught from behind most times: we just need him to move the chains.

Josh McDaniels looks very happy I hope Pop Douglas is too; a match for the ages.

After Troy Brown, David Patten, David Givens, Wes Welker, Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman, and Jacoby Meyers how can anyone be shocked at the idea that a low draft pick/UDFA WR might have success in the Weis/McDaniels offense? It's been the profile of the vast majority of good receivers the Patriots have had in this century. And, if anything, Chism was more accomplished coming out of college than any of them. He went undrafted because of his 4.7 40 (basically the same as Amendola) but his short area quickness compares favorably with the best slot receivers the Patriots have had. And it's not like he's competing for a spot on one of the best WR groups in the league.

He weighed 193 at his pro day. ESPN has him listed at 198. Shouldn't be hard for him to hit a solid 200.

Chism's 40 time of 4.71 is the same as Danny Amendola's.

We have way too many WR's (9) - not sure what's going to happen. From the bottom up: Baker-Polk-Chism-Bourne-Boutte-Hollins-Pop-Williams-Diggs.

Of the nine, keep 6. With the other 3: Baker to the PS, slip someone on IR (Polk?), trade Bourne or Boutte.

I don’t think he played on coverage teams at EW, but that’s because he was already their KR, PR, and best player. But he clearly has the football instincts and toughness to play on coverage teams if they want him to. Fortunately for him the guys he is competing for a roster spot with don’t do anything other than play WR.

I think IF K Boutte walks on water this Upcoming season: some Patsfans will see and still not believe. Newsflash Boutte hasn't reached his WR ceiling... most are sleeping on a poor man's Ja'marr Chase jr.

I really like Kayshon Boutte, he showed me a lot last year. May not be a burner, but still gets open deep and Maye seems to have good chemistry with him. Good route runner, good hands. I just think he turns out to be a good piece for the Pats. Reminds me of David Given’s situation with the Pats. Not an elite receiver, but Givens was a very important piece for the early dynasty Pats, and was trusted by Brady.

I remember Givens dropping a perfectly placed bomb by Brady when Givens was a rookie. Worked with a Jugs machine all offseason, and from years 2-4, had 149 catches and 12 TD catches, and had td catches in back to back SBs.

I hear Boutte has been working with the Jugs machine as well. That sentence sounds R rated.

Remember S Diggs will Draw Elite coverage; which will allow our lesser guys to have better match-ups. Somebody should get open; like I said one of the K Williams - K Boutte and K Bourne should be that Solid #2. I'm betting on our KKK WR's.

scottraDamus you old goat I remember that David Givens play like it was yesterday. Wanted him cut after it. I get your point: watch K Boutte Jersey be a seller this year.

I have it as:

These 4: Diggs. Douglas. Williams. Boutte.
Plus one of these: Hollins. Bourne.
Plus one of these: Polk. Baker. Chism.

Of course that's if everyone somehow makes it to the end of preseason healthy and ready for week 1.

Maybe he wins the KRer duty and winds up on a coverage team but I still want Marcus Jones returning Punts. And if he doesn't wind up on a coverage team anyone can do KRer it's not as vital as PRer. So his STs contributions may not be as big as others are making it out to be. WR is wide open and with so many options if he doesn't win WR spot STs likely won't be enough but won't hurt.
