Polk & Baker revival.

Call me wrong or stupid (and I dare say some will) But I think Polk and Baker are going to have a break out season in 2025. Better coaching, top QB, growing pains over. They were not dragged in off the street to play, both were very good collage players. But for what ever reason, they both really struggled to make the transition. But now things have changed and they have a chance to really show us how good they can be.

Let the abuse begin......
I still say Baker was the steal of that draft. Obviously didn't show it year 1, but i am hoping he at least shows a strong upside in years 2

Yeah, Chism probably destined for the practice squad unless he really excels in the preseason. Chism has to dislodge at least Polk to make the 53 man roster, not the other way around. Polk has a regular season roster spot that he can lose. Chism doesn’t have a regular season roster spot and must win one.
Chism won’t make it to our practice squad if he’s cut. He will be signed by some other team who likes his risk:reward profile enough to make a place for him on their roster. Remember how competitive his market as UDFA was, so unless he craps the bed in TC he’s a good bet to be on some roster opening day. Question is whether it’s the Patriots or some other team.

Texans QBs in 2021:
6.5 ypa when not targetting Collins
7.4 ypa when targetting Collins (60 targets).

Texans QBs in 2022:
6.2 ypa when not targetting Collins
7.3 ypa when targetting Collins (66 targes)

Pats QBs last year:
6.4 ypa when not targetting Polk
2.6 ypa when targetting Polk (33 targets)

I don't see any paralells in how Collins and Polk started their careers. Collins has no relevance when discussing Polk.

You missed my point. But that is ok. I didn't say that Collins and Polk's career are remotely the same. I said I used Collins as the extreme of showing a WR who didn't do anything his rookie year and turned around his career with a new coach and system. I don't think Polk and Collins are the same. I am just using Collins as an example of a WR who turned around his career.

All I did is use Collins as an example to my point that Polk might be able to turn around his career this year with a real system and real coaching.

You don't know that. People say this about players every year that if they are cut they won't make it to the practice squad. More often than not they do.

Chism wasn't drafted for a reason. If every team passed on drafting him, it is likely that most or all will pass on putting him on their 53 man roster if he is cut. If teams were hot to put him on the final 53 man roster and guarantee his contract for the season, he would have been drafted.

I guess I'd split the difference. Diligence requires that the team treat them as if there is a chance they could turn it around and that the team give whatever support might be required to make that more likely. But to act more globally as if such a turnaround is likely - to count on that and make decisions re other prospects accordingly - would be absolutely foolish. It's sort of a "one last chance" deal. You want to have options in the pipeline.

I used to deal with difficult students that way: tell 'em they have a last chance, that their opportunity is real and you hope they take it, but that it really is the last chance, and that whether it works is up to them. If they believe you about the "last chance" part, it can work, but if you have given them a succession of "last chances," you don't have what it takes to teach a roomfull of adolescents. When I used to mentor new teachers, I emphasized three things regarding "discipline": 1) Never forget: they have you outnumbered; you will never outshout them, 2) classroom discipline is 100% the result of the sort of relationship you build with the students, 3) Be in charge, but don't make such a big show of your authority (almost always as a result of insecurity, which they will see immediately) that you piss them off (see 1.)

Sorry for droning on. Executive summary: "Sure, give 'em a chance, areal one. If it doesn't work out, get rid of 'em."

Teams can make improvements quickly but this team is very far behind.

My biggest concern going forward is if Maye is the real deal. He hasn't quite shown that yet.
How many real deal QBs proved they were the real deal in their rookie year?
How many were on a terrible team devoid of talent?
How many had the worst coaching staff in the league?

Training camp. They need to earn a spot. I’d also bring in two UDFAs, plus one more FA and/or draft pick to compete.
that is too many. The players here already need all the reps they can get in the new offense and one on one time with thes taff as they go about picking up the new scheme. Besides the 5 holdover guys from last year, Polk, Baker, boutte, Borne, Douglass, We brought in Diggs and Hollins, Drafted Willliams and have already signed 3 UDFA in chism, Webb and Demeer. That is 11 guys in the room already.

@Real fan 02 As mentioned his mechanics and the velocity on the ball werent bad, it was his accuracy. Now this guy here threw it like he was playing on the beach.

Sorry PF,

I thought it had responded to you. Oh.. don't remind me.. Mac just never had that "it" factor, he had a solid rookie season and then everything was downhill from there.it's interesting becuase cam actually had a great training camp in 2021 and was the starter cam went on his own and got covid wich hurt his chance.. I think cam would have been better in year 2 with josh.. I'd take that 7-9 compared to the last few seasons.

Can we get Thornton back?
Before we say no hear me out I have a auto Thornton, Jersey, Helmet, and Photo, rookie card, depreciating by the second.
You can easily find him here...

I don't know. How many?

That doesn't mean said reasons were good or even logical. e.g., Why, exactly, did the Pats decide to take Kobee Minor as Mr. Irrelevant, when they could easily have taken any one of Chism, Dippre, or Larison there, all of whom got guaranteed more money?

Sad when we would take a 7-9 season, but I agree and thats where we are these days. I had hope for MJ and the first year seemed promising but I always thought he did not throw a ball with any zip to it and was concerned about how many picks he would have because of it. I am glad to see that Maye can get the ball to the receiver without having to put a lot of air under it to get it down field.

It is. I'd even take the 8-9 season in comparison to the last few. I feel much better in the direction were heading now. Yes Drake.. the guys just got it all, sick side arm throws, on the run, rockets over the middle in between defenders, accurate deep balls. He played pretty much off his talent alone in a directionless season with everything around him shot to ****.

Yeah I liked Mac and had promise for him.. not to rehash but he never bought in his second season. He's a smart and hard working player ,but doesn't posses the "it' factor seen in a top QB like Drake posses.

I would add I didnt see Mac as a true leader but from the first time I listened to Maye talk I thought he said all the right stuff. I think he is a natural leader and can take charge when things arent going right. Young Maye has all the physical talent he just needs more playing time so the game slows down and he needs (as everyone has said) to protect the ball and himself. If he does those things he will be a top 10 qb and will be face of this franchise for years to come.

And to add to that.. the guys a multi sport athlete baseball, basketball, football.. he's done it! Yes, protecting the ball is everything Vrabel's preached this since he got here in January. Drake as you mentioned is a natural leader, someone who just has it in them.. I always say leaders are born.. you just have it in you you to lead.

What is so impressive for me is Drake still had a positive plus/minus in TD to INTS last year.. and some excellent production running too. Josh will have more designed runs for him.. I suspect with a much better overall offensive scheme we won't be in 3rd and long situations all game like last season.
